My thighs hurt after another corporate day in a dress. I think bloomers might be the answer.

After another sweaty day where my thighs have just and so caught each other every time I've moved to 'make a cup of coffee' stand in front of the open fridge in the office kitchen wafting my dress and my knicker elastic is rubbing on my 3day post bikini line trim stubble I feel that there must be a better way.

I'm seriously considering some kind of nice airy bloomers, I'm trying to work out how they could be slimline enough to still be flattering under a dress.

I've tried cycling shorts, cut down leggings etc but surely the whole point of wearing a dress is to avoid the whole sweaty crotch on a hot day issue you get with trousers/leggings.

I've also tried the glidey balm stuff but it makes me feel a bit, icky.

Is it time for a lightweight, non bulky. slimline cotton bloomer revolution? How do we make this happen? I'm thinking like men's boxers but nicer.

I use deodorant on my thighs and bikini area - it stops all the chafing and rubbing

Vaunting · 26/06/2020 21:18

Men’s boxers?

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 26/06/2020 21:19

I facy some like my nana used to wear, they were soft floaty pure silk ones that came about an inch or two above her knees. Luxury.

When I lived in Malaysia (glaringly hot and humid), I had this issue. A German colleague introduced me to a product called Glide. It has honestly and truly saved my life - I've never looked back. (I promise I'm not making any money from selling them haha). You can buy them on Amazon, it's like a deodorant stick that makes your inner thighs slippery so they don't rub

What about these:

oddballs do women's boxers - I was surprised how comfy they were - especially on hot days

Herdwick · 26/06/2020 21:30

I'm handy with a sewing machine and will probably make something for myself now it's occurred to me. I've suppose as I've got older I'm increasingly wondering if women's underwear is designed around what men want rather than what is practical and comfortable for women's needs.

Why can I buy endless amounts of hi leg cotton 'briefs' from the supermarket but no practical bloomers?

Big bloomer company.

I'm not singling this response out it's just the most recent.

But why should I rub deodorant etc onto my thighs significantly increasing my risk of thrush when decent underwear made for women's actual bodies would be more appropriate.

If you are good with a sewing machine then just make a longer leg version of tap pants.

If you google tap pants sewing pattern loads come up. It would possibly help with the chaff and the breezy nethers.

UniversalAunt · 26/06/2020 21:41

Body Glide is good.

Cotton short leggings - and then unpick the crotch seam

BitOfFun · 26/06/2020 21:43

The beige obsession is because summer dress colours tend to be light, and nude undies (on white women, clearly Hmm) are less visible through slightly see-through fabric.

Sheep-like, I have ordered these...

Liquid talc-asda baby range do one for 90p and it's great. Full pants in soft cotton a stop the post shave irritation too-M&S do good ones in a pack of 5, no VPL either

Geraniumblue · 26/06/2020 21:49

If you are handy with a sewing machine making your own long, silk french knickers shouldn’t be too hard. There’s some good patterns about.

TeaFanatic · 26/06/2020 21:53

What about thigh bands? They just go around your legs to stop the chaffing. Then go knickerless! Oodles of waftage then Grin

winterisstillcoming · 26/06/2020 21:59

A Lumea might help too.

OkyDoke · 26/06/2020 22:02

Mens loose boxers?

JamieFrasersSassenach · 26/06/2020 22:07

@Herdwick I've never had thrush from doing this - to be honest it was just something I tried once that worked and I've done it ever since. By bikini area I mean the area between your leg and knicker line - and that is only because I get quite sweaty there (TMI)
I've never wanted to go down the shorts under dresses route as I think I would be too hot.

HarlinRay · 26/06/2020 22:11

This is what you want, I promise. I have them in black and white. They are super soft cotton, like a really thin t-shirt, and are better quality than you'd expect for £8 and the lace is really soft. if there is a tiny peek of lace at the bottom of your dress when you're moving around, it just looks like a dress slip (which I wear in the winter anyway to help control static/keep me a bit warmer in thin dresses). This is a US website that ships to the UK, but if you search 'Underworks Pettipants' you can find UK suppliers easily as well.

You don't have to there are other options. You don't have to trim your bikini line either if it makes you uncomfortable.
I wear big pants, they are perfectly fine. The only time they weren't was the one and only time I had a bikini wax.
