INeedAHol · 26/06/2020 14:09

I can hear nothing but sirens from my flat.

Have read that it appears to be a terrorist attack, but not confirmed. At least 3 dead. Glasgow city centre. Just awful Sad

@Nicknacky

Tippexy God knows why. You didn’t say anything wrong.
I didn't think so. Best wishes for 6pm Flowers
Etinox · 26/06/2020 16:41

So bitter, @TheMurk.
What would make you happier?

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 26/06/2020 16:42

Nicky and others, from a Police Officers Mum. Please stay safe. Flowers

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 16:43

@PAND0RA my response was actually aimed at my corona who asked us to pause to consider the people in the hotel and the conditions therein.

I don’t take my directions from you, I can say what I like. It’s not off topic.

Two of the people injured are staff working in the hotel. The other is a policeman.

The incident would not have happened if there weren’t hundreds of people shoved on top of each other in a city centre hotel for four months.

Australia would have sent them home. Scotland let’s them stay indefinitely and pays for it.

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 16:45

@Etinox this is the problem in Scotland. It’s bitter to challenge anything.

The SG pays Mears Group to manage this situation. Coronavirus happens and Mears throws them all in a hotel. Tensions are rising in households of 4, never mind in a tiny crappy hotel full of angry young men and vulnerable women.

But no one will ask the right questions here. The media will bury it in a couple of days.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 26/06/2020 16:46

@Nicknacky

This is the third Police Scotland officer stabbed in less than two weeks.

I’m a police officer in Police Scotland and frankly in feeling sick to my stomach about the anti police sentiment there has been lately and yet we run towards incidents and risk our lives on the line to help the poor souls like today who have sadly died as a result of terrible violence.

My thoughts to all that have died and have been hurt, and to my colleague. I’m hearing rumours on the police private fb pages and I pray they are inaccurate.

My bil is a retired police officer. I too am disgusted by the anti police sentiment.

We are very grateful to all of the officers who risk their lives every day to keep us safe.

mbosnz · 26/06/2020 16:47

Do we really want to argue the refugee/asylum seeker issue in this thread, which was started in response to a terrible incident in which people have lost their lives and others have been left fighting for their lives?

Obviously, there's logical links, but maybe it would be better to start another thread to discuss these? Feelings are obviously and understandably running high at the moment.

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 16:51

Shall we revert to that old chestnut “he had mental health issues” instead?

People seem to prefer that to addressing the issues involved.

There are already two threads about this topic. There doesn’t need to be a third.

Obviously people prefer gossip and speculation in these threads over any reasoned debates about how we get to a situation where people going about their day’s work get stabbed out of nowhere.

As you were.

PAND0RA · 26/06/2020 16:51

@TheMurk

No one is saying you are not allowed to ask questions. But this thread is full of people who are concerned about the injured police Officer and others. As well as serving police officers and their friends and family.

It’s not The place to Start banging on about government policies. However valid your point is.

Can’t you read the room?

morethanafortnight · 26/06/2020 16:55

It matters not who they were or why they were there. The fact is that people have been murdered, and speculating about what caused the situation isn't helping anyone, least of all the deceased, the injured and their families.

Maybe it would be better to wait for more actual information from official sources?

Lockdownhairdontcare · 26/06/2020 16:57

@TheMurk so many loaded phrases. You are referring to people, human beings like you and I.

You have no idea what prompted this incident.

YgritteSnow · 26/06/2020 16:59

I do struggle with this idea that we should sit silently till someone tells us what happened. Talking and discussing shocking incidents or issues is how humans process them. We need to do it.

Nicknacky, I feel for you and I desperately hope the officer isn't seriously injured. Thanks for your work.

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 17:06

@PAND0RA it’s precisely because I am concerned for the injured policeman and hotel workers in my own city that I wish to discuss the incident.

I’m pretty sure their concerned families are not perusing Mumsnet right now either. But if they were then I can only offer my sympathies.

Does not mean we should not ask questions.

Nixen · 26/06/2020 17:13

Where are people getting the news that 3 people have died? From what I can see it says 6 people injured and the suspect dead (good riddance)

AnneOfCreamCables · 26/06/2020 17:13

Nicky thanks for all you do. I have relatives and friends in the police. I'm worried about all the attempts to whip up anti-police sentiment atm. My thoughts are with everyone who was caught up in the attack today Flowers

@mbosnz

‘Police sources had earlier confirmed that three victims had died in addition to the suspect. This remains unconfirmed by Police Scotland.’

I agree that discussing what's happened is something that needs to be done, but these days, sometimes online speculation about things can get way off track.
mbosnz · 26/06/2020 17:22

Ahhhh, gotcha.

BlueThursday · 26/06/2020 17:22

Just to say I’ve had a message from my friends wife and he’s not the officer involved.

My thoughts to the officer who is involved and his family

Good news BlueThursday, you must be so relieved.

littlealexhorne · 26/06/2020 17:31

I just want to join others in thanking the police officers on this thread/reading this for their amazing work, bravery and selflessness. I really hope you can all stay safe and well, and that the police officer currently in hospital makes a full recovery.
