Major Incident in Glasgow

INeedAHol · 26/06/2020 14:09

I can hear nothing but sirens from my flat.

Have read that it appears to be a terrorist attack, but not confirmed. At least 3 dead. Glasgow city centre. Just awful Sad

@Nicknacky

This is the third Police Scotland officer stabbed in less than two weeks.

I’m a police officer in Police Scotland and frankly in feeling sick to my stomach about the anti police sentiment there has been lately and yet we run towards incidents and risk our lives on the line to help the poor souls like today who have sadly died as a result of terrible violence.

My thoughts to all that have died and have been hurt, and to my colleague. I’m hearing rumours on the police private fb pages and I pray they are inaccurate.

There's an old saying about empty barrels making the most noise. I would suggest that applies to the vast majority of those who indulge in expressing anti-police sentiment. I for one, and I believe I am one of a great many, appreciate the very difficult and often dangerous job that you do.

What an awful world we seem to be living in now prayers for all involved

mbosnz · 26/06/2020 15:59

BBC is saying the officer is critical but stable. Here's hoping they pull through.

MissRabbitIsExhausted · 26/06/2020 16:00

"I work on West George Street in a building across from the hostel. We're hearing it wasn't terror related but rather a fight that escalated out of hand as you said."

From what I'm hearing this does sound the most likely story too.
I'm sure we'll hear soon enough, the world just seems like such a negative place at the moment Sad

gingerbreadslice · 26/06/2020 16:05

Just seen a video of two men being arrested. Hope everyone is safe now

ssd · 26/06/2020 16:08

@Tippexy no need for the wee face anything is possible just now.

Kilbranan · 26/06/2020 16:09

I was just saying to my workmate how amazing the Police are - so brave and it’s so unusual in Scotland for them to have to shoot a suspect as they are so good at de-escalation.
I’m so sorry for all those involved and hope those in hospital recover quickly

Nicknacky · 26/06/2020 16:11

ToTrueToBeGood Thank you, those are nice words.

Thank you to all for your thoughts, I genuinely don’t mean to make it about me x

As I said up thread my husband was nearby when the Arndale stabbings happened and had been in the coffee shop the attacker started in earlier in the day. I didn't sob but I was terrified when I couldn't get hold of him immediately and when I did I couldn't settle until he was released and home safe. It's awful.

keeprocking · 26/06/2020 16:17

when approaching those parties this week where officers were injured, to NOT wear riot gear as 1) it would look racist and 2)if you look like you are going in for a fight, you will get one. Is there any truth in that? sad THe officers should be able to protect themselves

Again the consideration given to the trouble makers. The police should wear what they need to do their job safely, if some sectors care to make an issue of it, tough.
If the killer has indeed been shot dead I hope we don't have to waste money on an enquiry, if you choose to murder you accept the risk of dying as a result of your actions.

Well said.

MyCorona2020 · 26/06/2020 16:23

Can we maybe take a moment for the refugees who were moved from their flats, with hardly any notice, en masse into hotels for lockdown often without proper facilities and no way to physically distance? Their mental health has suffered, there have been suicides and to top it off the peaceful protests about the situation have been disrupted by the far right who have been allowed, broadly speaking, to get away with it by the police, who have refused to come out and call racism what it is.

Nicknacky · 26/06/2020 16:24

MyCorona2020 This is a thread about an attack that has left people dead and an officer critical.

Maybe start a thread about those issues rather that hijack this one?

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 16:27

These are people who have had their requests for asylum turned down. Which means they did not qualify to remain. They are given the opportunity to go home (FOC).

RJnomore1 · 26/06/2020 16:28

@TheMurk These are people

Yeah that would have been enough to say.

MyCorona2020 · 26/06/2020 16:29

@nickynacky An attack in a hotel where the refugees were being housed.

Nicknacky · 26/06/2020 16:30

You don’t know refuges were involved, or mental health issues. What’s happened is bad enough without speculation.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 26/06/2020 16:30

My brother is nearby, thank god he’s ok. It’s bad there are three people dead, several wounded....

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 16:36

@RJnomore1 so are all the sorry souls of Glasgow, and there are plenty of them, who could do with some of that taxpayers’ money spent on them. The people being dealt with by the Mears Group who placed them in that hotel are those who have been given a final decision to go home.

Shitfuckoh · 26/06/2020 16:37

I fail to see why it matters whether this is a hotel where refugees were? Why is it important to even mention they were refugees? I don't care if they had right to remain or not, they are people!

Tippexy · 26/06/2020 16:37

Why was my message deleted?

I only asked why someone would be in floods of tears about the fact an incident has happened in an area adjacent to where their husband worked yesterday?

Confused
Nicknacky · 26/06/2020 16:39

Tippexy God knows why. You didn’t say anything wrong.
