I can hear nothing but sirens from my flat.

Have read that it appears to be a terrorist attack, but not confirmed. At least 3 dead. Glasgow city centre. Just awful Sad

I have a friend whos a police officer in glasgow city centre. Checked that she was ok, shes just been called into work so luckily wasnt working at the time. It is however her shift and her beat so will most likely know the injured officer. Didnt want to ask too many questions, was just happy she is ok. Hopefuly officer is ok.

MagisCapulus · 26/06/2020 15:29

I read somewhere, cant remember where, that police were told when approaching those parties this week where officers were injured, to NOT wear riot gear as 1) it would look racist and 2)if you look like you are going in for a fight, you will get one. Is there any truth in that? :( THe officers should be able to protect themselves.

Nicknacky · 26/06/2020 15:29

The police officer is critical. 6 in hospital😢

ssd · 26/06/2020 15:30
Sad
FlibbertyGiblets · 26/06/2020 15:31

Oh no, awful to hear this update.

Srictlybakeoff · 26/06/2020 15:32

So sad. The police have such a difficult job to do , heading straight into difficult and dangerous situations. I am very grateful for the job they do

GimmeAy · 26/06/2020 15:32

This all recently reminds me of an episode of Criminal Minds, where the eventual target were the First Responders to crimes.
Reading and Glasgow wouldn't be typical terrorism targets I would have thought?
I hope our first responders are well versed and there is some very high-up cross cooperation between England and Scotland.
Prayers with the injured.

mbosnz · 26/06/2020 15:32

I hope so very much the officer, and all others injured, pull through.

Shitfuckoh · 26/06/2020 15:34

What a sad, scary world we're living in. I can't work out if it's 4 dead (3 victims and then the person responsible) as well as / or 6 in hospital but either way, it's all so very sad.

@Nicknacky I would just like to echo what a PP said, lots of people (myself included) do have lots of respect for everything you all do.

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 15:34

This will get swept under the carpet because too many questions will mean someone (Sturgeon) having to give answers.

Failed asylum seekers dumped in hotels by Mears, guess who picks up the tab.

YgritteSnow · 26/06/2020 15:36

For the police officers on this thread I want to thank you for what you do. I want to thank you for always running towards the problem so that the rest of us can escape. Also want you to know I have two teens who I have brought up to have great respect for the police. They are as angry as I am at your current treatment and my son especially is sad and angry daily at the abuse he sees towards the police on social media. I've had reason to call the police probably more than the average person and have never found them anything but professional and helpful, The Met in particular went above and beyond to help me get my abusive ex H out when I couldn't do it alone.

DesmondTheMoonbear · 26/06/2020 15:36

Horrific. Those poor people. How terrible for those who witnessed it too. I can't imagine how you begin to deal with that trauma.

My heart sinks every time I hear of an incident like this, but it sank a little more again because it happened in my home city.

Thanks for Nicknacky and Plominoagain.

MarshaBradyo · 26/06/2020 15:38

I’m grateful to the police here too. The job is hard enough without negativity.

So awful to hear this happened.

PAND0RA · 26/06/2020 15:38

There’s no reason to think this is a terrorist incident. From what I know it’s more likely to be an argument among hostel residents that has escalated and ended in tragedy.

The police in Glasgow are mostly excellent and they will have done everything they could to contain this incident.

I’m sure everyone’s thoughts and prayers will be with the injured officer and everyone else who has been injured or killed during this.

KittCat · 26/06/2020 15:41

Dreadful Sad

DesmondTheMoonbear · 26/06/2020 15:41

Reading and Glasgow wouldn't be typical terrorism targets I would have thought?

I can't speak for Reading as I know nothing about it, but as for Glasgow, we did have the Glasgow Airport terrorist attack in 2007 which luckily, didn't result in any fatalities of innocent bystanders , but as we are a major UK city I wouldn't think it a particularly unlikely target.

Nicknacky · 26/06/2020 15:43

Quite frankly, I don’t even care what label people want to give it. It’s doesn’t alter anything and I don’t know why people want to label it.

It’s murder, whatever you call it.

I think some people are the sort to join in any handy protest, not because they believe in the cause, but because they are out looking for a fight and to cause trouble. Those sort of people would not be deterred by a lack of riot gear. If anything they'd think of it as a weakness and to be exploited.

Like you, I believe that the police should be able to protect themselves as well as protecting the public.

Tippexy · 26/06/2020 15:47

@Nicknacky

The police officer is critical. 6 in hospital😢
The newspapers are saying in three in hospital, terrible that this is worse than we thought.
PAND0RA · 26/06/2020 15:48

The ACC has confirmed that the officer who was injured is critical but stable.

The hospital they have been taken to is one of the top ones in the country, they have a great deal of experience dealing in dealing with stab wounds and they will get the very best of medical care.

DesmondTheMoonbear · 26/06/2020 15:48

P.S I should add that I have no idea if this is a terrorist attack or not. Regardless it's just as horrific whatever the motive.

@ssd

Hope it's got nothing to do with the protests in George Square being hijacked by right wing nutters.
I doubt this very much Hmm
Heismyopendoor · 26/06/2020 15:53

@Tippexy
No.

I work on West George Street in a building across from the hostel. We're hearing it wasn't terror related but rather a fight that escalated out of hand as you said.
