Bournemouth beach - “Major incident”

999 replies

BebeGlazer · 25/06/2020 15:07

The local police and council have now declared that Bournemouth beach is scene of “major incident” because people will not stay away. Overcrowding, littering, desperately dangerous parking.

Please, please, think kindly before travelling to small seaside towns at the moment. We cannot cope.

I had been planning to book a staycation this summer in one of these resorts, but I will certainly not be now after witnessing the vitriol and hatred that so many locals seem to have for tourists!

I think you are missing the point. Bournemouth is not safe today.

annabel85 · 25/06/2020 16:30

@Samcro

people are mad. seems the sun comes out and they forget covid. (I wouldn't call Bournemouth small)
I love the sun but it's why i dread it throughout this period when looking at the forecast and see a few sunny days because everyone swarms to the beach and parks and people just do what they want.

People lose their minds in this weather. And why do they all go to the same beaches? I go to the beach in mild weather (Covid or not) as there's far too many people about.

littlejalapeno · 25/06/2020 16:31

@BostonCheers lol get over yourself It’s the “dos cervezas por favor” types who a rippingup the local beaches instead of pissing off the Spanish. Though if you’re not around more breathing space for the rest of us so have at it.

Mummylin · 25/06/2020 16:31

Not only did people arrive here by car, our local train station had hundreds of people Getting here that way too.

Who on earth thinks it's ok to leave all their rubbish here. There has been abuse to staff clearing up, fights amongst drunks, cars parked on pavements, people leaving their excrement in burger boxes on the beach. Stay away most of us don't want that here.

TheVanguardSix · 25/06/2020 16:31

Off you trot. Don't catch your feather boa in the door. And don't forget your porta potty. You'll need it on the beaches there as well luv.

tobee · 25/06/2020 16:31

@maddiemookins16mum

Yet they’re too scared to send their wains back to school.
I'm not sure that the people too scared to send their kids back to school are necessarily these day trippers though. Different mentality. Mostly.

@morethanafortnight

Well, there'll be one less family at the seaside in the U.K. this summer as me and DH will not be giving a penny to the NIMBYs who have been complaining about tourists visiting.

We'll be more than happy to give the thousands we would have spent to the hotels, bars and restaurants in Spain, where they will welcome tourists with open arms Smile

FlamingoAndJohn · 25/06/2020 16:32

@Coffeeandbeans

If you are furloughed and kids not at school what did the government really expect?
To not leave loads of rubbish and shit everywhere perhaps? Do people need telling not to do that?
colouringindoors · 25/06/2020 16:32

This is so horrendous! I simply cannot understand why people cannot take their rubbish home. Sounds disgusting. Yes I'd love to go to the beach. Lockdown has mad a bad impact of my mental health but this behaviour is insane.

Bournemouth's always like that on hot summer days. My ILs live what should be half an hour away, but the A338 gets backed up to a crawl every summer and even if you get there and park, it's just a nightmare.

So despite visiting a few times every summer, we haven't actually gone to the beach in a decade - it's just too crowded.

OldQueen1969 · 25/06/2020 16:34

@BostonCheers

Bon Voyage.

If this means our town has measures imposed to curtail what's been going on today we're stuffed already and maybe no-one will be allowed to come anyway.

It really is about the bigger picture you know.

Precisely

You might be a perfect tourist, but the Spanish are no fonder of drunken rude Brits than people in Bouremouth.

botedbored · 25/06/2020 16:35

Why does that equal leave rubbish & shit everywhere

poshme · 25/06/2020 16:36

@bostoncheers on some beaches in Dorset volunteers are collecting rubbish from the beach. Including used tampons, plastic bags of human poo, used sanitary towels.

Would you like to have to do that to make sure your local beach was safe for your kids?

It's not hostility to people coming, it's hostility to this awfulness.

teaflake · 25/06/2020 16:36

@Shinyletsbebadguys - 'because you are jealous?'

Nah mate. I'm soaking up the sun right at home, thanks. You won't catch me on a beach or in a crowd. As well as socialising, this is my idea of hell.

I can, however, think beyond myself and recognise that going to somewhere nice/taking the kids to the seaside in the hot weather is a little return to normal. Sanctioned in spirit by the government.

merrymouse · 25/06/2020 16:36

Bournemouth's always like that on hot summer days.

The police don't usually feel the need to declare a major incident.

It's not nice though, today it is dangerous.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 25/06/2020 16:37

We live near to the lakes and not only have tourists been busy absolutely trashing the likes of fell foot they've ventured further afield so our previously ignored coast is now being affected.

Dumping barbeques in their wake and taking stupid risks with inflatables. Loudly moaning and getting lairy because our cafe van / ice cream / snack thing which has been run by a guy on his own for years is struggling with the influx. Trying to take dogs onto the nature reserve which has a huge and protected seal colony, then kicking off and demanding to know why if the ranger dates to challenge them.

Oh and my friends dog rolled in human shit the other day. Our toilets are actually open, they either didn't bother to ask where they were or did the entitled bastard thing of doing what they want because they're not shitting on their own doorstep.

Goyle · 25/06/2020 16:37

Some people have to be led by the hand and told how to be sensible. They can't make measured adult decisions. I despair.

Imagine living somewhere that is a beauty spot or a beach and not actually being able to go out in your local area because of stuff like this.

My heart bleeds. You don't have any extra right to go to beautiful places because you happen to live there over those that don't. They're public places, anyone can go there.
