Bournemouth beach - “Major incident”

BebeGlazer · 25/06/2020 15:07

The local police and council have now declared that Bournemouth beach is scene of “major incident” because people will not stay away. Overcrowding, littering, desperately dangerous parking.

www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/18541911.bournemouth-beach-bcp-council-declares-major-incident/

Please, please, think kindly before travelling to small seaside towns at the moment. We cannot cope.

Can I just say I live in Bournemouth (I do not work in a tourism related industry). I live in a flat with no garden and yet I have felt no need to go to the beach (that we pay a hell of a lot of council tax for to upkeep) and leave all my rubbish and tampons everywhere and then take a shit behind the beach huts for good measure.

I have been "cooped up" for 3 months with no outside space at all. We just took walks in our locality. We can walk to the beach from where we live and went down twice.

It still doesn't give me the right to shit anywhere and leave rubbish anywhere I want.

woodhill · 27/06/2020 15:09

I get that it was not everyone, everywhere and can understand the urinating at a push but defecating not using a toilet (unless you are a small child) is disgusting

SquirtleSquad · 27/06/2020 15:12

You missed out not ideal..

no thousands may not have dropped their pants in people's gardens but even if 1 did that's way too many. (It's vile. It's not unfortunate or regrettable it's filthy cunts acting like inconsiderate animals) but tens if not hundreds of thousands of people did leave their shit (human waste and rubbish included) all over the beach, promenade, streets, car parks, in people's gardens and in the sea.

CallmeAngelina · 27/06/2020 15:13

A small number of individuals unfortunately did defecate and urinate in places that were not ideal,

"NOT IDEAL???!!!" What the fuck is WRONG with you??

When did humans turn into animals and it become necessary to crap all over the place? Do we need everyone to wear a nappy now to be allowed out the house?

Since everyone was forced to stay in small garden less flats. Everyone who was on the beach has spent the last 3 months stuck in a small flat with no chance to go outside and see the sunlight.

I think a good way of dealing with the rubbish could perhaps be for local residents and businesses to come together for a mass litter-pick. Perhaps some of the furloughed hospitality staff could lend a hand!

That way it can be cleared in a way that is cost-effective and allows the residents to appreciate the positive impact tourism has on their area.

Defecating in gardens and dropping litter are not activities that should be encouraged or praised. It is not ideal that some people have done this and we should certainly not be praising people for abusing council staff or urinating in public.

However, these are all in the grand scheme of things very minor inconveniences compared to the huge economic and social benefit that tourism brings to coastal communities.

We should also not be castigating and flogging people who are stressed having just spent the last three months cooped up in tiny flats.[/quote]
I've gotta hand it to you Boston, you are dogged and persistent! Well done you for refusing to give in Grin yes, your right. Local residents should litter pick! And feces pick! It will be fun.

I will suggest that to my neighbours when wales reopens and our beaches get trashed. We'd work for free whilst clearing away the McDonald's cartons and drinks purchased from Tesco's. We'd pause occasionally to express some gratitude to the tourists for bringing us this joy and happiness.

You are a funny one Grin enjoy Spain

Tigger001 · 27/06/2020 15:34

A small number of individuals unfortunately did defecate and urinate in places that were not ideal, such as behind sheds and others took the regrettable decision to dispose of bottles of urine in gardens because bins were full.

So clearly not behaviour that should be encouraged but it's not as if every garden in Bournemouth became an open air public toilet

Pardon.. It's a "regrettable decision" to leave a bottle of urine in someone's garden, no, let's call it what it is, its downright disgusting and the individual had no idea how to behave properly, I would be horrified if anyone I knew behaved like that. Take it home with you, vulgar people.

To defecate in public is disgusting, you pick up after a dog, so do the same. How would you disrespect others so much to just defecate and leave it there, there is NO excuse for this behaviour. I would be ashamed to know them and probably would not associate with them again.

I do think all the people in the beach together is annoying enough, but all the other things these vile individuals did are just horrendous, I am ashamed of this country currently.

GalesThisMorning · 27/06/2020 15:37

Oh is @BostonCheers a bot? I dont know what that means but I assume then she's not real? That makes sense, her replies were too funny to be real

But are they toilet trained?

Flamingo, you can't seriously think this is acceptable because they have had to be in lockdown ?

FlamingoAndJohn · 27/06/2020 15:48

We'd pause occasionally to express some gratitude to the tourists for bringing us this joy and happiness.

And remember it’s those tourist who pay for the street lights you don’t have, the roads and the local tip. I pity the poor non tourist places. How do they cope with their unpaved roads, unemptied bins and no litter picking to keep them amused.

FlamingoAndJohn · 27/06/2020 15:50

Of course not. It was sarcasm.
Inkpaperstars · 27/06/2020 16:01

Are you for real? How will this allow anyone to appreciate the positive impact of tourism? How far does this go? If tourists start committing violent crime against residents should the locals get together to offer each other free counselling, just so long as they focus on how great tourists are?

Defecating in gardens and dropping litter are not activities that should be encouraged or praised. It is not ideal that some people have done this and we should certainly not be praising people for abusing council staff or urinating in public.

I agree. I wouldn't be giving them say, financial rewards for their behaviour or standing by shouting 'go on, shit in the old lady's garden!' I don't think they should expect to be on the honours list just because of what they have done here.

However, these are all in the grand scheme of things very minor inconveniences compared to the huge economic and social benefit that tourism brings to coastal communities

Again, so we surrender all standards? Also, you are missing the point. This is not about tourism, tourists do not usually cause these problems. This is very much about this precise moment in time and its associated issues.

We should also not be castigating and flogging people who are stressed having just spent the last three months cooped up in tiny flats.

Well I am one of them. So please don't disagree with me, it might stress me further. Also don't patronise people who live in flats, we can maintain decent behavioural standards you know. We are not desperate to escape for a day of traffic jams, sweaty beaches and public defecation. We don't need allowances made for us so we don't have the added stress of picking up our litter. Not to mention that we don't even know if the visitors to Bournemouth live in flats.

ShinyFootball · 27/06/2020 16:07

I clicked on this thinking oh fuck major incident Bournemouth, terrorist attack, people dead.

Seems a major incident means something different in Bournemouth, with littering mentioned. And bad parking...

Yeah the crowd is ridiculous. Major incident?

walksen · 27/06/2020 16:09

No one has been stuck inside for 3 months without a chance to see sunlight whether they live in a flat or otherwise (unless they are shielding ). Everyone else has been allowed out for exercise to local parks since the lockdown started. We are allowed to travel further now but I don't see how that is justification for defecating in public places and leaving it for someone else ( usually someone on name) to clean up. It is difficult to understand how any reasonable person can defend this

Tigger001 · 27/06/2020 16:19

Sorry @FlamingoAndJohn with some comments on here, you just can't tell. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

OldQueen1969 · 27/06/2020 16:19

Major incident in the context here means the council and emergency services being able to co-ordinate a response to the influx of half a million people who turned up, as is their right to enjoy the sunny weather - however, because half the town doesn't open until 4th July in line with government restrictions, our infrastructure was overwhelmed and in order to ensure the health and safety of visitors and residents this measure was taken. There was alot of anti-social behaviour (three stabbings), the litter issue has been estimated at 50 tonnes over the two problem days and people doing their jobs of trying to keep the beach safe and clean were abused and threatened.

So it sounds dramatic but it was a response to ensure things didn't get out of hand and leave the police and other emergency services blindsided. It wasn't all virus related hysteria, it was a big picture scenario.

Exactly. I was being sarcastic but the way some people have been carrying on you’d think everyone had been in a bomb shelter for three months.

It wouldn't have caused half the fuss if the 'major incident' wasn't declared. THe amount of people there though over the day was insane.
WingingItSince1973 · 27/06/2020 17:25

But it is a major incident when it puts thousands of lives at risk with the pandemic we are still in! Plus all the resources that had to be called upon to deal with the chaos all these idiots brought to the area and the major clean up after! Who wants to be cleaning human waste in the midst of a pandemic that we aren't even out of yet. Absolutely selfish!

Boston bot I’m still waiting on your address so I can shit in your garden and empty my bin on your doorstep . As mentioned I’ll put a few quid through your door afterwards and in return I expect your immense and long lasting gratitude for doing so and for you to joyfully reflect on how dependent you are on other people’s money, while you clean it up.

That would be unfortunate and less that ideal.
wildone84 · 27/06/2020 19:09

@FlamingoandJohn I've been cooped up for 3 months! Therefore no one should expect saintly behaviour from me.
