Bournemouth beach - “Major incident”

BebeGlazer · 25/06/2020 15:07

The local police and council have now declared that Bournemouth beach is scene of “major incident” because people will not stay away. Overcrowding, littering, desperately dangerous parking.

Please, please, think kindly before travelling to small seaside towns at the moment. We cannot cope.

Darwinism in action.

merrymouse · 25/06/2020 15:42

While the virus is a high priority, the collective insanity that seems to be kicking off is really worrying. My sensible 25 year old son is staying well away from the town centre because there is a real feeling of tension in the crowds..... alcohol, extreme heat and sudden release from captivity is a really explosive combination.

Agree. Even without the virus this wouldn't be safe.

botedbored · 25/06/2020 15:42

Why the hell would you want to travel in a hot stuffy car to get to a place where you’re crammed in with 1000s of other people and get sand everywhere before travelling back and getting stuck in traffic with 1000s of cars in this heat?!?

I've never understood this

mrpumblechook · 25/06/2020 15:44

Presumably they didn't know it would be like that until they got there and by then it was too late.

DopamineHits · 25/06/2020 15:44

We've had this in my town as well. Rubbish everywhere, along with actual human shit...

It's easy for people to say "you don't own the beach, we'll do as we please" but we live here, we get left with the aftermath. What people DO own is their rubbish. They should be able to take it home. And if they think someone in their group may need a shit and won't be able to cope with queuing 30 minutes to get into a public loo, maybe stay home rather than squat behind any quiet corner you can find. You'd think human evolution had rewound itself by a few millennia...

viques · 25/06/2020 15:45

With any luck most of those morons will be booking themselves a trip to sunny Spain in a week or so , have fun guys, don't hurry back.

SaintWilfred · 25/06/2020 15:45

It's not just 8 tonnes of rubbish. It's 33 tonnes across the whole beach. 33 tonnes!! Shock

Every single person on that beach should be ashamed of themselves.

The human race is the real pestilence....

ItsWhineTime · 25/06/2020 15:46

It's no worse than the thousands at the protests

ineedaholidaynow · 25/06/2020 15:46

Schools are still providing work, my DS has a full timetable even though he is not actually in the school building.

I hope your lungs weren't damaged @EnlightenedOwl, it appears that quite a few people may be impacted long-term even though they had it mildly

PollyDangerCrackers · 25/06/2020 15:46

South coast village here, too. The main beach is prepaid online visitors only (to keep socially distanced), with warnings not to come here online and notices up in the surrounding areas.

We are absolutely inundated with visitors. The traffic is at a standstill, the beaches are packed out, and the surrounding villages are just wall to wall cars. To park, they are moving police cones, parking on double yellows, corners, across and even in driveways. I've never seen anything like it.

The village school is by the beach and the parents are talking of near-misses when crossing, cars driving round children on the crossing outside the school, and not being able to park.

It's horrible to see the rubbish (and human excrement) all over the place. And hear the stories of aggressive parking, and laughing at the traffic wardens. It's a shit-show. My sympathies are with the people of Bournemouth.

EnlightenedOwl · 25/06/2020 15:46

@Mrswalliams1

How many of these people stood at their door on Thursday evening clapping the NHS? What a bunch of Hippocrates.
I didn't had more sense. I think you mean hypocrites possibly?
IamPickleRick · 25/06/2020 15:47

We got stuck in Devon once after a storm made the roads impassable. We spent 5 hours in the same place on the A road. It was the most awful day and we ended up getting a hotel or we’d have slept in the car.

There’s no way I’d attempt a long drive like that now. Bournemouth is always packed even on mildly sunny days, don’t these people ever read the news.

goldfinchfan · 25/06/2020 15:47

Dorset used to be a fairly quiet place.....the constant TV exposure has ruined it.

How can a decent adult leave so much mess behind.....I am really distressed that this is England 2020

merrymouse · 25/06/2020 15:47

If they opened schools they wouldn't have this.

perhaps, but school holidays start in less than a month.

I dont do drama. It is what it is. The bronchitis I had last year probably didn't do much good either
IamPickleRick · 25/06/2020 15:48

Also It's no worse than the thousands at the protests they were protesting for human equality. Not for an ice cream and a fag on a bit of sand. So it is quite different really...

runbummyrun · 25/06/2020 15:48

@EnlightenedOwl couldn't have said it better myself.

They need to wise up, no kids clubs over summer now either, no jobs, furloughed etc ...

Crack on I say

MrsPhyllisTyne · 25/06/2020 15:48

We've had a very similar situation in our seaside town too. Heaps of rubbish left next to bins or abandoned on the beach to wash into the sea, even a still-lit disposable barbecue that had gone up in flames next to a huge stack of rubbish (luckily it was put out in time). Fights on the seafront after people had spent all day stewing in sunshine and alcohol. A young man was actually stabbed. This is a usually quiet, SW beach town.

Feels like the world's going mad. Sad

TheVanguardSix · 25/06/2020 15:49

FTS. Even without Covid in the mix, it's utterly awful. I couldn't imagine wanting to be part of that mess. What's wrong with lemmings people?

merrymouse · 25/06/2020 15:49

Dorset used to be a fairly quiet place.....the constant TV exposure has ruined it.

I live further along the South Coast and apparently even the usual locals only spot (not conventionally beachy, not well known) is heaving today.

When its kicking off in Ilkley of all places you know its game over

botedbored · 25/06/2020 15:50

Presumably they didn't know it would be like that until they got there and by then it was too late.

Why would they think they would be only people to go to a beach on the hottest day of the year?

Lonelycrab · 25/06/2020 15:50

Presumably they didn't know it would be like that until they got there and by then it was too late

Well perhaps not being thick as mince might help. If you’ve got more than a couple of brain cells you probably realise that heading to Brighton or Bournemouth in the middle of a pandemic on the hottest day of the year just maybe Isn’t a great idea Hmm

SpillTheTeaa · 25/06/2020 15:50

It's selfish and ignorant. No respect what so ever.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 25/06/2020 15:51

FFS I’ve rarely felt so ashamed to be British Shock. These halfwits think being on furlough = being on holiday. They’ll have a shock when the scheme ends and their companies no longer need them fill stop.
Who the hell would want to be in that beach - it beggars belief. Darwinism in action.
