Hoarder is finally decluttering whole house.... how do you stop the shame though?

So I'm a hoarder due to mh and other stuff. Finally got my mh sorted so now it's time for a new slate.

My whole tiny terrace is full of 17 years worth of childrens clothes, toys, paperwork... literally all sorts. I even have a stage1 car seat for family trips still.... my nephew is 8!

My home does not look like a tv hoarding show, but its time to get rid.

How do I stop the feelings of shame? It's so powerful... I could literally sob throughout this process.

3 bags down, eleventybajillion to go..... good job I got a skip!

I have been working with this group: I am posting a link in case you might find their support helpful, as I have. They can also signpost you to other help.

Ok I have a question, I have accumulated a lot of stuff for charity (its clothes and books, mostly unused). Anyone know a good charity who will collect? There is a van full of stuff in the garage?

EducatingArti · 23/06/2020 17:54

Heart Foundation usually collect but might not do it right now because of Covid19. Otherwise a local hospice shop might be a good bet.

Star Well done getting your mh sorted and getting started on your home!

icedaisy · 23/06/2020 20:30

This is so lovely and inspiring. Well done OP.

There's no shame at all in what you are doing, feel proud, you should be.

So good to see.

MulticolourMophead · 23/06/2020 20:31

Weel done, OP.

As a lifelong procrastinator, I can understand how hard it is to start, although I never really hoard much. This week, I'm decluttering the last little bits. It's a good feeling to reach the last bit, I'm sure you'll feel great.

Getting a skip is just a great thing to do if you are ready to have a massive clear out, but before you order one make sure you are ready to get ride of you stuff !! you have to be in the right frame of mind.
When you have your house Decluttered then given it a deep clean and decorated, it will be like a great weight off your shoulders.

A clean organised house is really very good for your mental health.
👏👏👏 well done to anyone who is doing this

Chartsandgraphs · 24/06/2020 11:10

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 24/06/2020 12:07

I loved the before and after pictures you posted @LewisFan, what a fantastic day's work. Hope today is going well, although I expect you will need plenty of water breaks in this heat. That fan you mentioned is going to be in demand this week. BTW did you already have the fan to hand or was is one you unearthed as you de-cluttered 😀?
