ADs too cool for air con?

Here's a new thread for discussing aircon, aubergines, and Goth music.

Another issue (I could go on all day) was the exemptions for "care of the vulnerable" issue at the height of lockdown. I swear if I saw another post "my mum is 96 and has just come out of hospital and can't move and wants to see me but I can't because I am protecting her" and everyone applauding the wonderful self sacrifice instead of thinking what the fuck.

It was bananas.

The other thing I really hated was the litany of complaints about elderly parents being foolish scamps who wouldn't just be good and do what they were told.

If they've managed to negotiate life for over 80 years, maybe let them make their own decision about going out for a walk or doing their own shopping.

It was just so patronising and bossy.

I knew the tide was turning on a thread about a Mum in her 70s going back to a job she loved and most people said it was up to her and there was more to life than safety. The OP clearly expected to be backed up in her outrage but seemed to rethink when people pointed out the risks of being bored and lonely in your 70s (or at any age).

Dd1 is a bit bummed - none of this list is a surprise though the pools thing is really hard for us - I’m hoping she manages to get back to work (furloughed but on compulsory annual leave atm)

and a significant chunk of the excess deaths are people with dementia who’ve been left to rot in their rooms without (unmasked, loving) human contact for months on end.

HesterShaw1 · 23/06/2020 13:54

Surely they'd be at the safer end of the leisure spectrum. I guess the issue is changing and cleaning. I remember the weeks before lockdown the dwindling number of crazy four year olds at DNeph's swimming lessons. He was the last one eventually. Sad :( (well I was told about it!)

No badminton either. That's my Thing.

thenightsky · 23/06/2020 13:59

I go off on a murderous trip to Lidl, superdrug and Wilko and come home to find 205 posts on a new thread. God you lot are speedy 😁Grin

SeagoingSexpot · 23/06/2020 14:01

I'm sad at the lack of swimming lessons too. I thought since it was known the virus couldn't survive in chlorinated water, it was a notably sage indoor activity. Kept taking DS1 to swimming lessons right to the Thursday before Lockdown Monday - he was the only kid in the class the last day.

DominaShantotto · 23/06/2020 14:02

Fucking teaching unions have started with the "can't do it" shit already (it's on the TES - came up on my twitter feed)

mylittleyumyum · 23/06/2020 14:08

One of my favourite things to do abroad is leap off boats into the sea.

I would love to be so hardy as to be able to swim in the sea here, but it's not the same being unable to clamber out and bask on the deck under a toasty sun.

I paddled up to my shins off the Ayrshire coast last week. Youngest DD swam in her pants and travelled home happy as larry caked in sand and wrapped in a beach towel.

There seem to be more jellyfish here too....

justasking111 · 23/06/2020 14:08

Good news for England from Boris, jealous again... bloody welsh.

Stressful at our little Asda this morning a SN family came in did not understand arrows at all so mum, dad and child were wombling backwards, forwards, sideways on every aisle. It caused chaos as every other customer ended up waiting for them to move on, then reversing as they changed direction. I could not wait to get out and away but unfortunately did not get my diet coke in my haste. So annoyed. I will now have to visit our local small co-op for bits I have forgotten DIL has sent an SOS for chocolate Grin

justasking111 · 23/06/2020 14:09

We are going out in the boat tomorrow, but shall not be jumping into the sea, wet suit still needed it is cold in the deep.

Teateaandmoretea · 23/06/2020 14:17

Dd1 is in a swimming club so it is a big part of her life Sad

Again, it’s the middle-aged overweight men leading policy and prioritising themselves over kids.

Swim England have a campaign. Please sign www.swimming.org/swimengland/open-our-pools/

Dowser · 23/06/2020 14:17

So my dd tells that from July 4 we can stay over I. Our caravan
I’d much rather listen to my dd than Boris, she could be making it up as she goes along , Id still believe her

Anyway
Just wanted to issue a word of warning
Unless you are going to a caravan on July 4 , avoid the roads like the plague ..it will be carnage out there
Everyone is champing at the bit to get their rig on the road and they won’t be taking any prisoners.

Why the f Boris didn’t say from tonight..then at least it would’ve been staggered..and we could’ve gone and stayed from tomorrow for a couple of days when we take a trip to Northallerton

Carnage, I tell you, carnage..we are all doomed

This was the summer we were buying a boat. I love sailing, but have never been able to get good at it because until now we always had kids that were too small.

Bigger DCs love it and DD1 is bloody good. But our club have no rescue boats out, so no sailing for us so far this season Sad

@bookworm14

We can meet another household indoors! I can see my parents again! 🎉🎉🎉
Is that in England or Scotland..or both?
dingit · 23/06/2020 14:19

Does anyone follow Martin Lewis?
Anyone think he's a tiny bit dementor is?

So the 2m rule will become 1m+

  • Hairdressers can open, beauty salons can't.
  • Cinemas can open, gyms can't.
  • Pubs and restaurants can open, swimming pools & water parks can't.

I'm glad we're following the science, fingers crossed its the right science we're following.

dkl55 · 23/06/2020 14:24

A few posts back now but agree about the patronising of poor older people. One of my mates was going on about her parents going to the shop and also hugging the grandkids. I said - they're intelligent fit and healthy 70 year olds. Surely they can make their own minds up!?

BarkandCheese · 23/06/2020 14:24

@DominaShantotto

Fucking teaching unions have started with the "can't do it" shit already (it's on the TES - came up on my twitter feed)
That made me think of the Ballard of Barry and Freda, or maybe The Ballard of Boris and Unions.

Altogether now “we can’t do it, we can’t do it, the children must stay at home...”

mylittleyumyum · 23/06/2020 14:26

So can I come down to England for an overnight stay as of the 4th?

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 23/06/2020 14:27

BBC:Coronavirus: Scottish schools could re-open full-time in August

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 23/06/2020 14:29

I'm really hoping Wales does the same for September - or a least over next few weeks starts to have that expectation.

mylittleyumyum · 23/06/2020 14:32
This is exciting news!!

Good news about playgrounds and inside visitors. I will no longer be breaking the rules. Glad to be going back to work, will be interesting to see how busy it is. This time of year the beer garden is rammed, now that the 1m thing is in play we won't need to remove tables.

Gutted about the gym though, I'm desperate to get back. Anyone got any thoughts about when their return might be? Swimming too, my eldest was doing lessons.

Orangeblossom78 · 23/06/2020 14:43

Really? We will miss this daily death drama?

Orangeblossom78 · 23/06/2020 14:43

I'm cross about the swimming too. Usually do aqua aerobics
