Here's a new thread for discussing aircon, aubergines, and Goth music.

my job interview disasters are legendary. An improvement would be if I were to actually say “I carried a watermelon”

That did make me chuckle.

it all went horribly wrong from the start. My mic played up so the interpreter couldn't hear me properly (it was an interview for a job working within the deaf community so a BSL interpreter). I got asked to give a situation where "communication may be difficult"...my reply "this interview". WTF?? If the only thing required was a sense of humour then the job's mine, if clear lateral thinking is a must have then I've failed miserably. Why they would want a bumbling idiot on their payroll would be anybody's guess.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 23/06/2020 12:21

bold fail

See, I rest my case Your Honour.

Nihiloxica · 23/06/2020 12:22

Pro-vax and anti compulsory vaccination also.

I BRAVELY had the Swine Flu vaccine when pregnant.

Most of MN wasn't prepared to do it unless it was 100% proven to be safe.

My pointing out that they had to weigh the risk of the vaccine against the risk of getting Swine Flu. Pregnancy was an underlying condition for Swine Flu.

Thank fuck I had it, because DH got Swine Flu. I had to drive him to A&E in the middle of the night because he couldn't breathe. 8 months pregnant with an 18 month old in the car. Awful night.

He was so sick for 2 solid weeks. He barely moved. Being that unwell when pregnant would have been awful. Was so relieved I was vaccinated.

DH looks a bit like an aging, less polished Mr Bloom! He doesn't talk to his salad, mind.

I think that's a really good answer.

The new popularity of these types of synchronous online communication do present new challenges for people with disabilities that affect communication.

I hope you get it.

The thought of fucking Mr Tumble has clamped every single one of my orifices in my body so tightly shut that I definitely wouldn't get ventilated.

Debunker you say? Anyone else singing that to the tune of the Pixies song? Just me?

(I'm sure I changed my NC once to something to do with slicing up eyeballs off the back of a relevant discussion and someone got all horrified with me...)

Willitneverend · 23/06/2020 12:30

@torydeathdrug There is something about the viewpoints. I was SNP but it turns out I really hate the authoritarianism on display at the moment and am now politically homeless. But some of my Tory friends are gravitating to it, and the Greens seem completely on board with the death cult as well.

We have been to see Mr Tumble (but I didn't shag him). DS, who loved Mr Tumble, sat stoney faced throughout and only got into it during the last 5 minutes.

mylittleyumyum · 23/06/2020 12:31

I had suspected swine flu when pregnant, myself, DH and 18 month DD all stricken over Christmas. If it wasn't swine flu it was just a particularly nasty seasonal flu. We were in agony, the doctor wouldn't attend and I had to summon a neighbour to buy us pain relief and Dioralyte. We have never been so ill in our lives. DH was diagnosed with asthma shortly after he recovered. I ran out of clean pj's for DD on day one, and couldn't crawl through to put a washing on. Awful.

OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks · 23/06/2020 12:31

That made it sound as though I think ventilation is done via your vag I do know that's not the case Grin

Allflightscancelled · 23/06/2020 12:31

I hope you get the job too.

Id never seem Mr Bloom before. He is just my type though, sadly, a bit young for me

mylittleyumyum · 23/06/2020 12:33

Has anyone been on the Things That Scared You as a Child thread?

I now feel horribly uneasy having been forced to remember the public safety adverts of the 70's/80's

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 23/06/2020 12:33

I hadn't heard the fertility thing and covid

www.covid-19facts.com/?p=84157

It looks like there were inital concerns but currently convincing evidence isn't there and as PP said they wouldn't know yet with any vaccine testing.

I really wish we were on page 39 of this thread now.

Well it's me NOW.

Wanna grow, grow up to be, a Debunker!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/06/2020 12:40

Afternoon all!
Sorry not really been around much the last couple of days (though I do love that this is a thread you can just pick up and jump back into), had a murderous couple of days playing pitch and putt and getting an ice cream on Fathers day and DH and I went shopping yesterday. It felt surprisingly normal.

Only thing is, now I want more normal. Its like a drug.

Been talking with my family in Greece the last couple of days and I keep trying to be optimistic that I am going to see them in August, but I am terrified to get too optimistic in case I jinx it.

Then I hear myself say shit like "I might jinx it" and wonder what the hell I am on about, I am a 40 year old woman for gods sake.

Its hurting my head now :(

torydeathdrug · 23/06/2020 12:41

Many viral infections can cause orchitis which can lead to male infertility (classic is mumps of course). Most viruses can cause various ‘-itis’ encephalitis vasculitis etc it isn’t a massive shock that this new CV can too.

Next thread title... The AD’s ventilate their vaginas!
LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/06/2020 12:42

And for disclosure....I have been on MN for about 10 or 11 years, had a few name changes and had to leave for a while.

My favourite thread aside from the Sistine screamer has got to be the guy (Barry?) and his Yoni massage...…………..

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 23/06/2020 12:42

I can’t believe where in a place now where people are coming forward to dispel rumours they might’ve shagged mr tumble - just in case there’s a vag ventilation failure and they don’t wish for such murky rumours to persist even in (sadly) death.

Doesn't Gwyneth Paltrow advocate that?

dkl55 · 23/06/2020 12:44

@torydeathdrug

She told me that her next door neighbour (who is in her early forties) is absolutely petrified of catching Covid.

^ eye roll is does seem to be a type.

I'm totally pro-vax ... we've all had everything going (including private extras - chicken pox, menb/c/acwy etc) and my kids have participated in vaccine trials (mn headtilt moment "oh you are very brave!), I was screened out of the cv vaccine trial because I'm so staggeringly unlikely to come into contact with the virus ... but I still don't think it should be compulsory. Bodily autonomy is sacrosanct and the authoritarian stripping away of rights "for the good of society" and "for your own good" and "to be safe" is terrifying. And it clearly appeals to those who have a particularly political viewpoint.

This!! Why do people want to be told what to do so much. I hate it. I was shocked speaking to a good friend recently and bemoaning St Nic. She said - well actually I think it's helpful they tell us what to do as then we know we are doing the right thing Hmm. And DP said the same - his group of friends think "people are too stupid" to think for themselves ... it's a dangerous precendent. Where do you draw the line? Are people too stupid to drive? Care for children? Vote? ... sorry ranting now but it really annoys me...

Mine just needs a smear test rather than ventilating, but I CBA to try to work out how to navigate my GP practice to sort it, nor covering my face. I really don't like the idea of a mask while having that done! I'm normally good about them and fell in the age group when the starting age was lowered and had a couple before it went back up again.

NUFC69 · 23/06/2020 12:48

Well as I am early 70s I would be quite happy to have the vaccine - and it's aimed at the over 50s in the first place. I would be more worried if it suddenly made me fertile again. I know it's different, but DH and I have both taken part in medical trials over the last five years- we figured that as we had benefited from people in the past, it was right to pass that benefit on to younger people.

The burglar alarm has been serviced this morning - first time someone has passed over the threshold (apart from family). He was telling me that his NDN worked in a care home and because they had Covid in the home every death was put down to it, regardless. We seem to hear this all the time.
