It's got to be mayo obviously - you can shove your vinegary salad cream nonsense quite frankly. DSis and I almost had a proper argument about this last year because she is on the side of the salad cream. She was wrong of course.

I like both but prefer Salad Cream, I can put it on everything

Salad cream is better but I do love mayonnaise as well.

Mayonnaise didn't exist when I was young, I'm old and hate salad cream and hate that my DM used to make a homemade salad cream which involved double cream, salt and white pepper and insist it was better than heinz salad cream!

Mayonnaise I love. I remember going to a cafe as a teen that did big burgers and thick chips and having my own little bowl of mayo, OMG it was delicious and I've been hooked ever since!

Salad cream here. I don't mind mustardy French style mayo, but you can keep your bland, blobby Hellmans.

Mayo is bland and boring. Only good on potato salad and then only with a ton of black pepper.
Well, and chips obviously, but then the chips need to be good and salty

Mayo I use it in lots of dips and dressings and flavour it up, as well as in salads like pasta salad, potato salad etc. Salad cream for me just goes in sandwiches (which mayo can do too).

Mayo, but.........only salad cream will do on egg sandwiches or ham salad sandwiches. So, I dunno. I can’t choose, don’t make me choose

mayo for me plain on egg. with ketchup to make marie rose on prawns, chips with chicken dippers, coarse grain mustard added for cold chicken , horse radish added for cold beef,

The only person I know that eats salad cream is in prison, ergo everyone that likes salad cream is a criminal.

Well I think we can all agree that that settles it. You salad cream freaks are if questionable character at best and in giving you all the side eye as we speak.

If I really had to choose - I think I’m team salad cream. Both have their place though.

Spill the beans Rousette. What's the secret of eternal youth?! I remember a tour guide in Menorca telling me that mayonnaise was invented there in the 18th century. Do you have a special portrait in your attic by any chance...... I know what you mean though. I'm in my 50s and I don't recall mayo being widely available in the UK when I was a child, but Heinz Salad Cream was everywhere. In glass bottles then of course. Bleurgh.🤮

yes, quite bland. See all the people on this thread saying they mix it with mustard, ketchup, etc etc to make it more interesting.

I would say that it doesn't count if you have to mix it with stuff to make it taste nice!
