It's got to be mayo obviously - you can shove your vinegary salad cream nonsense quite frankly. DSis and I almost had a proper argument about this last year because she is on the side of the salad cream. She was wrong of course.

I reject your rule. The correct answer is "it depends." Chicken sandwich obviously needs mayo. Cold meat or fish with salad obviously needs salad cream.

I scooped some mayo out of the jar the other day (Hellman’s) and the texture!!! I can’t stand how it’s so almost jellylike and needs scooping out. Actually makes me feel a bit sick. It’s not a sauce if you need to scoop it. I love salad cream for the taste and the sauce texture.

You need mayo for chips but salad cream for fishfinger sandwiches.

Salad cream all day long. It's the only acceptable condiment in an egg sandwich. When I was at school I had sandwiches of just butter and salad cream! Has to be white bread for this though.

Neither. They are both hideous, slimey substances and clearly the work of the devil. But salad cream is even more repulsive than the horror that is mayonnaise. Why is it virtually impossible to get a shop bought sandwich that is not contaminated?

I'm on the fence but DP is totally outraged by the mere existence of mayonnaise. Showing him this thread would end in much froth.

Mayo when I've made it properly it's almost solid. Keeps for weeks and weeks - probably due to the 8 or so garlic cloves I put in it.
