Even in the frosty winter I'm hot, always hot. In the summer I'm just a little cooler than a blast furnace. I go out with my DH on a summers day and he always turns to me while my face is scarlet and hair dripping with sweat and says " Isn't it a lovely day! "

I love the heat when I’m abroad and could sit in it all day and walking around in it doesn’t bother me but here it makes me so irritable, grumpy and tired and I always feel like because it’s a nice hot day I should be outside enjoying the sunshine

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 22/06/2020 16:47

Forget all this wetting a scarf palava! You need the JML cooling pillow and cooling mat, they are lifesavers! I put mine in the fridge before bed, couldn’t be without it.

DustyMaiden · 22/06/2020 16:47

I don’t sweat, hardly at all. I just get very red in the face. Eating makes me hotter still.

notalwaysalondoner · 22/06/2020 16:49

Wow, I didn’t know anyone in the UK felt like this (except from hormonal hot flushes). I’m the opposite - sat here right now in a roll neck jumper and jeans with a vest on... cold almost all year round, if a house indoors is below 19C I’m so so so unhappy. My feet especially die a death of cold. I often sit with a hot water bottle on my lap or tucked into my jumper even in May. I’m only really happy in climates above 20C and often wonder why I live in the UK!

BeautifulCrazy · 22/06/2020 16:53

I don’t like this weather at all. I think most people think they should like it but the reality is unless you can just sit and do nothing it’s not great. Even then most people I know will go in search of shade and a fan after an hour or so. My mum used to say she loved the sun/heat but then spent weeks being irritable when the good weather she apparently loved finally arrived. I was called miserable for saying I preferred Spring to Summer. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I keep my blinds shut and have fans in every room. I’m dreading the next few days.

LinManWellWellWell · 22/06/2020 16:54

I love the rain!! But shhhh don’t tell anyone else..

sweetkitty · 22/06/2020 16:58

Move to Scotland it’s been raining on and off all day, I’m got socks and a fleecy top on and I’m cold.

ThatBitch · 22/06/2020 17:01

We're lucky in that the house stays nice and cool but the garden is a beautiful sun trap. Best of both! I love the sun, same as dd. Ds and dh have paler skin and very quickly get too hot and out of sorts. A flannel run under the cold tap then rung out and placed on the forehead/shoulders is a good way to cool down. Cool shower before bed, air dry laid on a towel and then cotton short pjs. Ds has a full size muslin which I dampen then cover him with if he's really too hot (I take it off him when he's cooled - he's 6 so able to tell me).

Brefugee · 22/06/2020 17:02

arrives late to the party

Yep, hate the heat, always have but now I'm full-blown menopause it's awful. All my life I've had cold feet and hands and now they're bloody hot.
Having spent lots of time in China and Korea i have a spectacular collection of fans and have one in every bag, in my car, in my office etc etc.
But i don't want to go too early with the fan in the bedroom in case it gets like last year. (doctor suspects there maybe something wrong with my thyroid - and he keeps asking me if i get night sweats. I've taken to fixing him with an icy stare)

EmmaA91 · 22/06/2020 17:03

My husband's terrible for overheating - he's had tests recently for diabetes and thyroid issues but both came back clear - he's quite hairy so that doesn't help! Bless you, I know how aggravated he gets so I feel for you ❤️

Under boobs and sweaty bum crack. Menopause + hot weather is not a good mix. I look like a tomato that's had a bad sunburn. I'm more 'mint juleps on the porch in a kaftan, sitting in a rocking chair with the air con / fans on full blast. Maybe Chris Hemsworth pouring the drinks.

Whattheduck · 22/06/2020 17:08

@LinManWellWellWell both myself and dd love the rain and it’s even better if there’s thunder and lightning.

You and me both. I sleep with a fan on and the window open in winter. Always seem to be working on the hottest days, running around, uniforms too hot, damn, clothes of any kind are too hot.

Sadly working naked would scare the customers. Who all remark on what a lovely day it is, while I’m fanning myself with cardboard and melting into a sweaty, grumpy puddle.

We sold cooling dog collars one summer. I bought one. And wore it. I’m working on Wednesday, I may look it out...

Me too... walking in a rainstorm especially after a hot spell is one of the best experiences ever.

I remember one summer where the days were hot but it stormed almost every night. The poor dog had never been walked so far

oohnicevase · 22/06/2020 17:20

I love the sunshine !!🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

EmpressSuiko · 22/06/2020 17:22

@notalwaysalondoner I’m the same! I desperately need to move somewhere warmer 😂

elfycat · 22/06/2020 17:26

I had underboob sweat for the first time this week.

Never been so grateful for the giant fan, that came by a circuitous route to our UK house from a US army cookhouse in Iraq c2004 but was made in Pakistan so who know where it's been or what its seen. I'd add a photo but DDs are using phones to sit in separate rooms and play the same game (?) but it's 70cm across the metal fan blades and souns liek an aircraft taking off on the lowest setting.

Where are the nearest clouds? I'm over here --->

agonyauntie2020 · 22/06/2020 17:30

Years of not being able to sleep at night because too hot, bought a portable air conditioning unit, vent it out of the window (not as hard as you might think, came with a kit, fully removable). Love it, can sleep and can cool one room in those hot sweaty summer days, sometimes have it on in the day time as well and have been pleasantly surprised that it's not the massive electricity drain I thought it would be. Recommend!

Starksforthewin · 22/06/2020 17:30

I hate the sun, bloody hate it.

The forecast for this week is horrendous. I count the days until autumn.

I hear you all.

namechangenumber204 · 22/06/2020 17:45

Not so much during the day - but sleep on a towel. It's a life changer! It wicks the moisture away from you and you stay cool all night. Try it!!

SpeckledFrogsLog · 22/06/2020 17:46

I don’t mind the heat in the day but being in the midst of night sweat hell, night times are horrendous! I’ve recently bought special pillowcases and a blanket off Amazon that are made of cooling material. OMG they are AMAZING! Light, cool, comfortable and I don’t wake up in the night feeling like I’ve been for a swim!

MoaningMinniee · 22/06/2020 17:50

I've just rescheduled work for the rest of the week (we work outdoors) to start and finish two hours earlier.

Everyone who is feeling the heat and either menopausal or possibly peri-menopausal, I buggered on putting up with my temperature control system being completely useless and waking up boiling at 4 am for three years. Gave in back in March, just before Covid kicked off, and HRT has been absolutely amazing. I know it may not work for everyone but OMG it has worked for me!

justasking111 · 22/06/2020 17:53

Before meno. I was an icicle in the winter. Now over 20c and I retreat indoors, I wear my hair up which helps. Loose cotton clothing and dream of autumn. Dreading this week.

Flyinggeese · 22/06/2020 17:54

I'm with you OP. Can't stand it. If we have a rainy day, without fail my MIL will text to say something like 'awful day', 'stuck inside' etc. I never know what to say, rain is gorgeous. Heat is driving me nuts. Solidarity.

VanGoghsDog · 22/06/2020 17:58

You need the JML cooling pillow and cooling mat, they are lifesavers!

Yep - I have the mat, I've been sleeping on it all week, it's a life saver, I can actually get some sleep with it.

On really hot days I put it in fridge but then it does take a while before I can lie on it as it's too cold. It doesn't need to go in the fridge though, it still works.

My other tip is Magicool, it really helps, I keep it by the bed.
