Even in the frosty winter I'm hot, always hot. In the summer I'm just a little cooler than a blast furnace. I go out with my DH on a summers day and he always turns to me while my face is scarlet and hair dripping with sweat and says " Isn't it a lovely day! "

Thank you .... this is me I dread the really hot days of the summer, I get stroppy and miserable. I despise summer clothes and always feel fat pale and miserable. Worse still I am married to an Indian man and my children are all olive skinned and look perfectly at home in the sunshine!! I absolutely hate it and cannot wait for the rain, or better still autumn

Mummadeeze · 23/06/2020 21:54

I think this is the second day this year that I haven’t felt cold. It was absolute bliss for me today. But I do sympathise anyway. My DD hates the heat.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 23/06/2020 22:05

I am always cold, unless I am exercising or in a very hot country. Finding the right summer clothes to wear is a pain, I rarely go bare legged in this country. M&S thermals are my lifesaver, Heatgen Plus in winter, normal Heatgen ones most of the rest of the year. I do have an underactive thyroid but it's supposedly controlled by medication. I suppose at least I can add layers but I would love to wear summer clothes!

ssd · 23/06/2020 22:12

I hate the sun and it hates me.

And the humid heat is unbearable to me.

plominoagain · 23/06/2020 22:14

Of course it doesn’t help that because I’m ill , the dog won’t leave my side . So whilst I’m essentially bed bound , I have my very own furry hot water bottle too.

No its not a lovely fucking day!
Puppybum · 23/06/2020 22:32

MotherofPearl I started doing that, keeping the curtains closed last year. Made such a difference

I couldn't agree more.
I'm a northerner and not built for hot weather. Windy moors are more my thing. Wall to wall sunshine is fine if you're on a beach in Greece with nothing else to do but lie under a sunshade and take cooling dips in the sea. It's no fun at all though if you're at home with work to do.
Makes me so mad when weather presenters wax lyrical about the lovely warm weather.
We Invested in some heavy blackout curtains for our bedroom which help a bit, and agree about the cooling showers but I hate feeling so uncomfortable. Glad I'm not alone in my hatred of this weather. Luckily OH feels the same way, so we can whinge together.

VanGoghsDog · 23/06/2020 23:16

Went for a walk with dp today, was way too hot.

But, of course, he doesn't feel hot, doesn't see the need for me to drink water all the time, doesn't see why I need to stop in the shade for a bit too cool down, etc. He didn't feel hot. But it was twenty eight fucking degrees!

We went for a walk last week and it was pretty warm. I wore a cotton top and a lightweight jacket (it was breezy as we were high up when we set off) and he had a vest, a polo shirt, a sweatshirt and a heavy rain jacket! I took my lightweight jacket off quite soon after we got going.

Time to get the cool pad out of the fridge!

Barney60 · 23/06/2020 23:29

im another thats always hot, i sleep with a fan on even in winter. Prefer winter to summer. 30 degrees on my front garden this morning. The ONLY time I can enjoy it is if im sat next to a swimming pool with a cold drink in my hand on holiday, the rest of the time it can go. It makes me miserable! I have picked up a few tips, relax your muscles and put the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Warm drinks have been proven to help. cold water on wrists. you can get a can of cold spray from Boots which is lovely especially if out walking, it stays cold even if in the sun all day, called cool off or similar. wear cotton. I also have a mobile personal air conditioner. It was from Amazon, battery operated cost about £20 was a joke present from family thats been one of the best presents Ive ever had, fits in my handbag.

Rache49 · 23/06/2020 23:34

Have hot flushes to contend with so always hot and sweaty . Put nice clean clothes on, cotten dresses, Linen etc but am soaked half an hour later.

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 23/06/2020 23:39

I have MS and severe heat intolerance. I drop sweat EXCESSIVELY down my face, on my scalp, down the back of my neck and on my back, along with pretty much everywhere else 365 days a year. I can't wear make up, wear my long naturally light blonde hair down, or even wear a coat. Even in the depths of winter.

It is quite literally ruining every single aspect of my life.

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 23/06/2020 23:40

Oh and it's not exasperated by menopause or anything as I'm 35 and have been like this since I was 15!

Doctor just sent me to a Dermatologist! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Rache49 · 23/06/2020 23:44

Thank you for the venom , I also have Hypothyroidism, mine is congenital, so I am used to that. It's the hot flushes that are a shock to me as I hate being hot at the best of times. My bedding never touches me at night and if it does, I am a leg out of the bed person. . How long have you had your Hypothyroidism can I ask?

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 23/06/2020 23:45

@amusedtodeath1 Beyoncé Hair! GrinGrinGrinGrin

Dougalthesyrianhamster · 23/06/2020 23:48

@Miggymoggymugwumps Yeah I have Hyperhydrosis too - on my face! Along with scalp and my back. Indescribable. If it starts when I'm out, people start judging each other. If I'm driving then I have to pull over as the sweat pools in my eyes! 😫

Purpleartichoke · 23/06/2020 23:51

I hate summer. Hate it with a passion that matches the awful temperatures we must endure. I am constantly miserable and beet red. I sunburn in minutes if I dare expose my skin with even heavy sun cream. I was clearly designed for a very different climate.

My fantasy is to move somewhere cool, where every morning I can sit in my garden watching the fog and drinking my hot coffee.

Bunter888 · 24/06/2020 00:13

do you have to swear....

DollyPartons · 24/06/2020 00:26

I too am jealous of the ones that lap up the sun. I get obsessed about ways to keep cool, obsessed about when it will all go away and love spring, autum so much more than necessary!

Starksforthewin · 24/06/2020 00:33

Bunter, you must be new.

Lovely1a2b3c · 24/06/2020 00:34

Aw I feel your pain.

Things that help:

  • Cotton t-shirts and light clothing (avoid polyester like the plague!)
  • Soap rather than shower gel and roll-on deodorant over aerosol (tips from medics on a programme about 'hyperhidrosis')
  • Staying home from 11am-4pm if it's scorchio and going out earlier or later.
  • Lots of ice lollies and cold drinks!
Starksforthewin · 24/06/2020 00:34

And my hatred for fucking summer virtually requires swearing.

Rockbird · 24/06/2020 09:29

I. Hate. Today. And. Tomorrow.

31 fucking degrees. 31. Bastards.

Brefugee · 24/06/2020 12:06

I'm with PP who have to start IMMEDIATELY removing clothes, getting near the fan etc as soon as a hot flash comes. It is bad any time of year, but it is awful in summer.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 24/06/2020 13:39

@Rockbird 😂. That me, that is!

Toilenstripes · 24/06/2020 14:04

I wonder if hating summer is a British thing? I’d honestly never heard of it before reading MN. I feel sorry for everyone who suffers but I love heat! Sorry!
