Even in the frosty winter I'm hot, always hot. In the summer I'm just a little cooler than a blast furnace. I go out with my DH on a summers day and he always turns to me while my face is scarlet and hair dripping with sweat and says " Isn't it a lovely day! "

Try being bed bound ! I am currently absolutely forbidden from doing pretty much anything at all for about a week and I’m so hot it’s untrue . The fan’s been running since last week , I can’t sleep anyway , and worse still , all I can do as I’m so bored , is think about how hot I am .

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 22/06/2020 15:50

I'm not crazy about the heat either. I'm getting a bit more tolerant, I always try to drink lots of cold water and talc has been a game changer. I put it around my bra area and between my toes and I've felt a lot less sweaty. I think part of the problem is when clothes are not comfortable. looking at you, bras.

NowImLivinInExeter · 22/06/2020 15:50

I loathe hot weather. I feel like a social pariah, it is totally socially unacceptable to hate sunshine. Yet I'm called moany, despite 99% of the population moaning whenever it's grey/rainy, which I love?

NowImLivinInExeter · 22/06/2020 15:51

And also I'm not fat, which is always the MN standard reason why anyone could possible not love the heat.

pawpawpawpaw · 22/06/2020 16:00

At home I soak my feet in ice water (I keep ice packs in the freezer so when one is melted I can swap it with a fresh one). It's very effective but not really doable elsewhere Smile
I can't tolerate a cold shower but I do like a cold wet flannel head to toe at bedtime or if I wake up hot in the night.
And I agree that linen is the perfect fabric for clothes and bedding.

WanderingMilly · 22/06/2020 16:00

Hate the heat, always hot, even in winter. Yes, I do all the suggestions on here including drinks and cotton tops and everything, I still get hot and dripping. No idea how people sit on a beach and sunbathe in the sun, never have been able to do that.

Air conditioners are your friend, real ones which do heat/cool exchange (not fans or blowing air across ice cubes)….the best investment an older woman can make.....

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/06/2020 16:00

Try being bed bound !

Get a sarong or thin sheet, wet it with cold water, wring it out REALLY well, place over you with a fan running. You'll be freezing in a few minutes.

MitziK · 22/06/2020 16:03

@Horsemad

Lol, my DH has been awake since 4am this morning because he reckons his hair is making him hot & stopping him sleeping. 😆😆😆
That's obviously why mine can sleep for England.

Mind you, he's part vampire a balding ginger so he's even more enthusiastic about Not Getting Hot than I am as a not balding ginger.

If either of us had been at the same school as @supersop60, whether as students or parents, the next sound after being told to stop thinking about being hot, it's all in your mind would have been the crash to the floor with heatstroke. We've both done it in the past. And we first met underneath the air conditioning unit at the local venue for exactly that reason.

Holothane · 22/06/2020 16:07

Yes I’d rather be cold at least you warm up and be Cosy today I feel the heat dreadfully yes in 50s.

Itsjustabitofbanter · 22/06/2020 16:08

I once remarked to an old man outside the post office what a miserable day it was. He replied ‘every days a blessing’. 😊

Puppybum · 22/06/2020 16:12

It's funny how a few have said about my thyroid I do take medication for it, isn't it funny how one thing can have such an affect

I feel unwell once it goes over 20 degrees. Got sunstroke at 23 degrees one summer. One leg swelled up massively. I think I was out of it for 4 days.

I like the evenings but yeah hate the heat. The worst thing is my south facing bedroom becomes hellish.

I love winter, coats, boots, woolly jumpers and lots of soft corduroy.

I am batch cooking chilli con carne right now, just for me. Everyone else is on salad for the week but I am fighting heat with heat. I will let you know how it goes.

BIWI · 22/06/2020 16:21

Lightweight scarf - soak it in water, then wring it out thoroughly. Then either roll up and put it on the back of your neck, or drape it over you so it covers you neck and your arms as well.

amusedtodeath1 · 22/06/2020 16:22

Same here but I got myself an Easyacc handheld fan from Amazon. Usb charged, portable, fold in half to become a free standing desk fan and you can leave it plugged in over night and the best bit, it has three settings, one a lively brisk breeze, two amazing for such a little fan and three "Beyonce hair". Best 15 quid I ever spent.

welldonesquirrels · 22/06/2020 16:24

With you, OP. I hate this weather, it's disgusting and the heat spells in the UK are horrible because there's the added humidity and the fact that our houses are built to apparently retain as much heat as possible!! I'm tired because it's too warm to sleep, grumpy, sweaty, overwhelmed and miserable and I'm trying to sort out my cluttered nightmare of a house with an equally grumpy toddler underfoot and I just hate hate hate this weather.

Meruem · 22/06/2020 16:24

I hate it when the weather forecasters say things like "it's going to be another glorious day tomorrow" in the middle of a heatwave. That's not what I call "glorious" at all. DS is like me but DD is some freak of nature that loves 30+ heat! So I console myself with knowing she is happy, even if the rest of us are grumpy sods!

IAintentDead · 22/06/2020 16:28

It's definitely a lovely day.

I was just opening the thread and Bill Withers cane on the radio singing 'Lovely Day' - so if Bill says it is then it is.

Except that I partly agree with you. I'm trying to cut a hedge and I'm dripping. I like warm weather when all I have to do is sit around drinking cool drinks and occasionally dipping a toe in the water.

Toptotoeunicolour · 22/06/2020 16:31

I hear ya OP.
I've also had the full range of skin cancers so need to be super careful, but I'm trying to balance that with the Vitamin D and Covid resilience.
No advice, just sympathy.

SummerDayWinterEvenings · 22/06/2020 16:32

Crushed ice cups in drinks. AC unit. Hair up and we have towels which you keep damp and cool you down -snap them and wrap your hair up -bliss

Rockbird · 22/06/2020 16:33

@amusedtodeath1 Those Easyacc fans have been an absolute life changer the last couple of years. I work in a school and the kids are always coming over to me for a blast of my fan. Last year I got one that mists water as well. I was the most popular person in the school! Can't recommend them enough.

Miggymoggymugwumps · 22/06/2020 16:34

I suffer from Hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) which can go into overdrive in hot weather. My hands and feet are the worst effected and I literally have sweat dripping off me, if I have to wear socks for anything they are sodden after about 15 minutes. My hands are terrible & at work today the keys on my computer and mouse were covered in droplets but thankfully I'm working from home so nobody could see how bad it was!!!
So whilst I love the sunshine I spend my time trying to hide my embarrasing sweaty wet hands & feet from people as they have no idea what it's like! I've tried all the suggestions put forward on here but it makes no difference. Although Mitchum deodorant does keep my armpits drier than anything else on the market...Driclor and the like brings me out in a rash!

pawpawpawpaw · 22/06/2020 16:35

Puppy if you have hypothyroidism (I assume?) do you know if it's optimally treated? Heat intolerance was one of the first changes I was aware of when I started taking thyroxine, but that was early on and it took a long time to get my meds right.

Apossibility84 · 22/06/2020 16:42

Get food poisoning and become very seriously underweight

I am always chilly. Always.

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 22/06/2020 16:45

I have found my people!
Next door have one of those massive "easy up" pools, and I have actually started doing the calculation to see if I can possibly hurl myself from one of our upstairs windows, land in it, and pretend I tripped...

yoikes · 22/06/2020 16:46

Omg.
I've found my people!
I fucking HATE the heat...anything over 22 degrees is unbearable to me.
Peri menopause has made it 10x worse.
Wednesday is due to be 30 degrees here.
I plan a day of laying on my bed next to a fan weeping quietly :(
