Sliding down the Nando's scale. 1m here we come

Steady decrease in cases across UK - medical officers
More now on the news that the UK Covid-19 alert level has moved down from four to three.

In a statement, the chief medical officers for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland say they have reviewed the evidence and agree with the recommendation to lower the alert level.

"There has been a steady decrease in cases we have seen in all four nations, and this continues," the statement says.

"It does not mean that the pandemic is over. The virus is still in general circulation, and localised outbreaks are likely to occur.

"We have made progress against the virus thanks to the efforts of the public and we need the public to continue to follow the guidelines carefully to ensure this progress continues."

Definitely gearing up for move to 1m I hope! Flowers Good news

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/06/2020 10:54
Have you seen this? Alert level drops apparently Hmm

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53106673
Lucky us Hmm. It means precisely nothing, in reality. Unless they’re going to say I can go and get pissed in a pub this evening?

Drivingdownthe101 · 19/06/2020 10:54

Haha sorry for my negativity. It is good news really. I’m just in a foul mood today. Started my 4th period of lockdown today.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 19/06/2020 10:55

Has anyone seen there's a thread about us? I'm off to take a look.

Another one? Grin
DesmondTheMoonbear · 19/06/2020 10:57

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. You're very kind.

@SockYarn Thank you for the recommendations. It seems that Grace and Favour are open today so I will try there or Finsbay. I might get a little treat from Waitrose also, and have a selection, because why not?

BogRollBOGOF · 19/06/2020 10:57

@Drivingdownthe101

Have you though about going for a walk? Children don't melt in the rain [tinkly little laugh]

I stupidly engaged with someone who made a genuine comment like this yesterday Grin.
Can’t think of anything worse than walking the same streets that I’ve been walking every day for the past 3 months in the rain with a reluctant toddler who sticks his fingers down drains.

I saw that one, it was a good comeback. I didn't put two and two together to twig I was actually doing it back to you, but it was that exchange that prompted my sarcasm reflex. Grin

There probably actually are a lot of people two months behind us that didn't take their children out for a couple of months and haven't hit the brain dead monotony of doing it for 3 months.

If nothing else, while DS2's academic skills have regressed, living with me and DS1 constantly (and DH hiding upstairs), at the grand age of 7, he has perfected the art of withering sarcasm. Grin #lifeskillz

There's no bad weather only bad clothing

Yes, total sympathy for all those doing lockdown with small DC. I actually can't imagine how fucking awful it must be - I remember even without a lockdown, when mine were little, literally watching the minutes on the clock until DH came home, and also that sinking feeling when they woke up from naps (I probably sound like an awful parent and I think I probably was when they were little but I love having older DC!)

I think you're either a Toddler Parent or a Teenager Parent (as to which you find easier)

trappedsincesundaymorn · 19/06/2020 10:58

Yep. apparently we're no better than the dementors in our attitude.

Ooh have you got a link?
Mascotte · 19/06/2020 10:59

Dear god, apparently Queen Nic won't let us go to outside pubs as we breathe differently there owing to loud music and fun.

Yeah they can sod off with that one too Grin

DesmondTheMoonbear · 19/06/2020 11:00

@LivinLaVidaLoki I'm so sorry to hear about your Aunt. How bloody cruel and unfair to die so soon after surviving Covid. Thanks

I'm so sad I missed that thread, and the golden opportunity to be a dementor and come back with "Have you not read IT? It's not very responsible parenting letting 3 year olds near drains. I never did it".

PS I won't ask if you have 'seen' it as we don't have any screens in our house.

Mascotte · 19/06/2020 11:01

@trapped that's weird! I find it very moderate over here.

Can I be bothered to engage? I’m not sure.

BogRollBOGOF · 19/06/2020 11:02

@Orangeblossom78

Level five (red) - a "material risk of healthcare services being overwhelmed" - extremely strict social distancing

So we are now-

Level four - a high or rising level of transmission - enforced social distancing
Level three - the virus is in general circulation - social distancing relaxed
Level two - the number of cases and transmission are low - minimal social distancing
Level one (green) - Covid-19 is no longer present in the UK - no social distancing

That can hopefully justify bringing the 2m down making living more viable. Lets face it, it's been significantly down and stable for a good (fucking tedious) month.

Prepare for another bout of baying about the second wave and surge of the dementor cycle after the protests have failed to cause the 7th second spike and no one coughed to death in a Primark queue. Grin

SockYarn · 19/06/2020 11:02

There's no bad weather only bad clothing

People who say that have never been to the west coast of Scotland. It rains horizontally. In July.

OP posts:
Orangeblossom78 · 19/06/2020 11:07

I have never seen rain like on the west coast. To get to the Arran ferry you need to get on part of the train for the harbour, if not you get off at south beach and have to walk, I remember that in the rain. We survived weeks with the ferry stopped so guess pretty similar to lockdown as a child.

Ibake · 19/06/2020 11:09

just been to have a look. Good for you @sockyarn although I fear you might be about to get your arse handed to you! If it gets bad we'll rally round.

RubberDinghyRapids · 19/06/2020 11:09

@Drivingdownthe101
The other day when it chucked it down I ran out of ideas/toys/snacks so DD and I had a bath in the middle of the day. Haven't done that since she was a babe (she's a similar age to yours) and she was most confused as to what we were doing. Found it hilarious after 5 mins. Sending sympathies.

Don't care what others think tbh, so won't look and won't engage. This thread has been a decent mix of data interpretation, humour, sympathy and recipes. Don't like it then move on. I don't read the Litter Tray but I don't bemoan their place on the site.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 19/06/2020 11:11

Who are these children who haven’t grown out of all their “bad weather clothing?”

Walking in the rain is shit. It’s non-stop whining, then when you get home you need to try and get everyone undressed without muddy water going on EVERYTHING and wellies being stomped the length of the house. Then as you’re trying to unleash the dog and get your own shoes and coat off up starts the whining for food.

Cut yourself some slack - put in mine craft and put baileys in your coffee instead.
