New thread! I think this brings the total to 12?

I’ve just put a link on the shops thread suggesting the op come here. I hope it does cause an influx of dementors though, if it does I’m really sorry.

BarkandCheese · 15/06/2020 11:30

Doesn’t cause an influx of dementors.

HauntedGoatFart · 15/06/2020 11:32

@HesterShaw1

As for that shopping thread...anyone else feel like they are at the London marathon cheering on the determined, exhausted, smiling OP as she doggedly runs onwards? Good for her.

The post about "No I am staying in to sew PPE for the NHS" made me snort laughing rather than get cross, which is a good sign. Do they not realise how bloody ridiculous they sound?

Frankly I'd rather extract my own wisdom teeth without anaesthetic than venture to a shopping centre today, but that's not the point.

Also, I just checked and it doesn't appear scrubs are considered PPE. But saying "I'm sewing scrubs" is so much less virtue-broadcasting than "I'm sewing PPE", isn't it?
AnxiousElephant77 · 15/06/2020 11:33

I'm bereft that I can't watch series 3 of the Handmaids Tale. I only got Prime Video because I thought it'd be free on there and it's not!

NannyPhlegm · 15/06/2020 11:34

I've always wondered why Dementors haven't come on this thread to berate and shame us. I seem to remember just one, and they didn't even cause a ripple.

BarkandCheese · 15/06/2020 11:35

I’m not sure there’s any official medical grade PPE which could be made at home. Can you imagine surgeons in woolly knitted gloves or face shields put together with a hot melt glue gun?

HesterShaw1 · 15/06/2020 11:36

"Today I will not be partaking in enjoyable activities because enjoyment is a sin. I will volunteer at church so people can pray, then I will sew some artisan masks for our NHS heroes, then I will have a look at my remaining stores to see what I can make in the way of an enjoyment free meal. I think there are some old lentils and some brown rice remaining, and I can also put some rancid 3 month old cheese in the the coffee. Oh we ran out of coffee ages ago so I am now brewing hot mud. Then I will homeschool my children who are GLAD to stay home indefinitely if it means other people may live a month or two longer than they would have anyway. What do you mean, my children seem as though their spirit is broken? They are well behaved and know this is all for the Greater Good! Even one life saved is worth the second Great Depression, mass unemployment, terrible mental health etc etc etc. We then may partake in some joy free exercise in the garden, and perhaps we can then go and stand 200 yards from my parents' house so the children can wave at them from a SAFE distance. SAFETY is the main thing. At bedtime the children will be bathed in an inch of rainwater I carefully salvaged from a puddle, and then they will be dressed in their nightclothes I remade from some old hessian sacks. And tomorrow we will do it all over again, safe in the knowledge that we are doing our bit to KEEP PEOPLE SAFE FOREVER."

Ibake · 15/06/2020 11:37

@hestershaw I was walking the dog reading that post re the sewing PPE, forgot myself and muttered 'you sanctimonious cunt' really quite loudly Grin

dingit · 15/06/2020 11:39

Just been chatting to my neighbour. Her year 10 ds went to school this morning. I asked if he was happy and she said no. He's still terrified by the virus and worrying about a second wave. What the hell are we doing to our children ? Sad

Actual LOL!

BogRollBOGOF · 15/06/2020 11:40

@Mascotte

I've decided to be my child's mum, not his teacher. It's just the two of us and he needs to be happy and secure with me, if nothing else. I feel much better now, pressure is off. He might be behind academically, who knows, but at least he'll be happier.
This is why I'm very much playing it by ear. Better that we get a couple of random sessions per week in w13 (not counting holidays than having tried to keep all guns blazing and burning out a month ago.

It's not just surviving lockout lockdown, and not about where my DCs are compared to others WHEN they get back to NORMAL schooling, they need to enjoy learning and not have that crushed out of them. Formal schooling is fragile with DS1 anyway and DS2 is just not mature enough for this.

SummerHouse · 15/06/2020 11:41

Thanks barkandcheese nihiloxica and Cattermole just needed to here those excellent points. Bugger the school indeed! Mini summers are coming at you! (Although the school have been excellent in many ways).

I do love mask / dress coordination but I would prefer people made a proper effort.

Something like this purple number?

Fantastic 😂
Cattermole · 15/06/2020 11:43

@Ibake my DH is wondering when we got the dog.... sounds like me!

Cattermole · 15/06/2020 11:44

@SummerHouse it's all very well but how do you pee? where is, as it were, the gusset?

Shodan · 15/06/2020 11:46

I might wander onto the shopping thread.

My sleep has gone to shit (only got to sleep at 6 am this morning), STBXH is doing his level best to delay the divorce even further- I'm in exactly the right frame of mind to get stroppy with some dementors...

Ibake · 15/06/2020 11:47

@cattermole I get in trouble from my DH, he hates that word - which makes me say it more!

@summerhouse built in a la period pants so you end up with a moist gusset!

Thisdressneedspockets · 15/06/2020 11:47

I think the other thing that bothers me with that advert is how much the model looks like she's wearing - what is it they call it? - "modest" clothing.

I've been trying to put my finger on what else it is. It was a real intake of breath, heart starts to pound moment when it appeared. Something about the posture/demeanor too, maybe. I've not had that reaction to photos of friends smiling behind their masks.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 15/06/2020 11:51

Ibake fellow feral product of the 70s here too - my children have inherited my strong genes. Rurally kids still roam - and whispers, out in the wilds they even played on the beach and sail boats!

Home learning went well today. They trashed the living room then burst into tears and called me a “fat bully” and thumped each other a few times - whilst I was on a work call natch.

We had a reasonable discussion about carbon dioxide and now they’ve gone back out on their bikes with other murderous children.

Littlebelina · 15/06/2020 11:56

@SummerHouse I'd send your kids in, we could have juggled a bit long but made the choice to send ds in and it has really helped

Dowser · 15/06/2020 11:57

Thank you Ibake
I’m seen as a bit of a nutter on mnet re my natural remedies but I don’t like to keep quiet because there might just be something that might just help someone and I honestly don’t give a flying fuck if anyone wants to have a go at me..I’ll just get in with it
But if I can point anyone in the right direction, I’m happy to help. I come with a good heart.
Anyway I must dash I’ve got an appointment with my medical Dowser at 12

Also big thanks to everyone’s contribution re my grandson
This thread moves so fast I really can’t keep up

rookiemere · 15/06/2020 11:57

Insane it's strangely comforting to hear of others less than perfect home schooling experiences. I've not been called a fat bully yet so good to know there's new lows I could hit.
DS came in to tell me what school work he has done - he knows when he has pushed me too far !

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 15/06/2020 12:02

rookie tbh I won overall for today. I managed to get them both showered and clean their teeth.

For revenge I ate their favourite flavour out of the multi-pack crisps.

Laniakea · 15/06/2020 12:02

The post about "No I am staying in to sew PPE for the NHS"

^ well she’s a bit crap really & obviously doesn’t care about the NHS because if she was off shopping (paying tax) and keeping people employed (paying tax) the NHS could afford its own, far better, PPE. So I guess the poor misguided non shopper is actually a nurse killer (sad face).

Ibake · 15/06/2020 12:02

@dowser nutters are my fav kind of people, they're the most interesting, especially when it's something I know nothing about.
@anxiouselephant I've just sent you a DM
