Old posters you sometimes think of

1000 replies

selfishteenagers · 13/06/2020 22:00

I was wondering today about a few old posters that either left or I haven’t seen in ages
Riven , eatshitderek (i think that’s what the username was) and another one I can’t remember the full name ghost something who was in temp accommodation I think ?
Does anyone else ever wonder about posters they dont see anymore

OP posts:
thaegumathteth · 15/06/2020 01:58

I'm rubbish with names but I remember

 • one poster who lived in the west of scotland. Her husband died and she (understandably) found it really hard. Then she eventually got together with a new man and I'm not sure if something awful happened to him too?
 • also the poster who had an ectopic pregnancy and only went to hospital because of MN advice - I think her name had 'spider' in it.

Also I'm not sure if this was on here and again I've forgotten the name, but a lady who wrote about her daughter Billie who had died of cancer. I think her name was maybe Mrs something?

Anyone know who I mean?

CheerfulYank · 15/06/2020 02:02

Thae that's TrinityRhino, at least I think it is. She's doing well enough for all she's been through.

It was MrsDevere who had beautiful Billie.

occa · 15/06/2020 02:10

Oh yes! I remember the ectopic pregnancy one. That was an amazing thread.

ALongHardWinter · 15/06/2020 02:15

Funny that the OP mentions 'EatShitDerek'. It was only yesterday that it occurred to me that I hadn't seen her (assuming it was a her!) on here for ages.

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/06/2020 02:26

Assuming it was a her.
How rude.
Yes, she's a she, given she's had two children that's quite obvious.
Why are people so convinced she's not who she says she is?Confused

ALongHardWinter · 15/06/2020 02:35

IHaveBrilloHair Excuse me,but I was NOT disbelieving who she is! I merely meant that I wasn't certain if she WAS a she. I don't like to make assumptions. And I couldn't remember whether she had children. No offence was intended.

RyanBergarasTeeth · 15/06/2020 04:21

@IHaveBrilloHair. I did believe eatshitderek was real. She had loads about herself. For example she was 5ft tall and wore converse with playsuits and dresses on her nights out. I had a few chats with her about night out clothes. Stuff happened and she name changed to a similar name i think with derek in it but then after the suprise pregnancy she disappeared and suddenly a thread popped. Up saying she was bannes for being a troll and there was a big hoohah on the thread with lots of shocked posters. Thats what lead me to believe maybe she wasnt quite what she seemed but i dont know im not mnhq.

exLtEveDallas · 15/06/2020 05:50

She’s still 5ft tall and wearing Converse - and looking great when she goes out. Her kids are gorgeous too.

I’m glad I’m on FB and Twitter with lots of the ‘old timers’ although I’ve forgotten a lot of the MN Vs Twitter handles, I just know ‘know’ them from before.

MN isn’t quite the place it was when I could lose myself in its words for hours at a time. I can’t keep up with the namechanges (looking at you Drank! @TheCanterburyWhales). It’s nice to reminisce though.

SunshineCake · 15/06/2020 06:34
@SunshineCake I chatted often with Somerville too. I thought of her recently and thought I'd get in touch only to read here that her child may be ill. After all she'd been through it made me really sad. We had a weird connection because of my ex-h's OW and she was such a wonderful source of support. I hope she's OK 🙁
I have read more than once that Somerville's dc May be ill and I am starting to think it must be true Sad. She was just so lovely to me and I am sad I couldn't be there for her but she was always very capable and wouldn't have needed me.

derxa · 15/06/2020 06:36

also dealing with breast cancer (fortunately expected to make a full recovery, am in the middle of active treatment post surgery). Join the club. I go for a lumpectomy this week. It's a bit of a bugger isn't it. Flowers

derxa · 15/06/2020 06:38

I have read more than once that Somerville's dc May be ill Me too. Sad

MintToBee · 15/06/2020 07:01

@dementedma

On the Brave Babes thread I remember jesuswhatnext and miflaw and mouse and thurso and indenial and dubh Miss you all
@dementedma I have Mouse on my Instagram. She pops every now and then.
magimedi · 15/06/2020 07:21

@IHaveBrilloHair

magimedi Have you always had Medi in your name? Im wondering if I know you from years back on the XFactor threads?
Yes, always had this name.

Have never watched XFactor - so you must be muddling me with someone else.

Oblomov20 · 15/06/2020 08:06

I too am surprised this thread is still here and hasn't got more deletions.

These threads often paint a very rosy picture of what it was like back then. But it wasn't all good. There was a lot of nastiness. It was incredibly cliquey. It's totally different now, after moldie'gate and penis beaker etc. It's huge now, impersonal. No one name changed back then. It's incomparable.

Wallywobbles · 15/06/2020 08:06

@Cognitoergosometimes if you still get notifications- please know you are missed. Such clear advice.

Ali2020 · 15/06/2020 08:26

There was a lovely poster called something like hushabymountain. Her husband had left her and she was just lovely. I think about her often and hope she’s ok.

7ofNine · 15/06/2020 08:30

The other "Medi" poster was mehdismummy I think?

LinemanForTheCounty · 15/06/2020 08:36

What happened to the poster who had everybodydancenow in her username?

Ali2020 · 15/06/2020 08:48

I’ve just remembered a few more:

TheNaze73
Pictish - really helped me with some sensible advice

There was also a young poster who had a child and her boyfriend cheated on her. She was only 19 or so and I think she was going to university.

I also remember a poster who i think was maybe cabin crew - aeroflotbabe/girl?

SarahAndQuack · 15/06/2020 09:00

at 7days.

@PrincessFiorimonde, I loved the history threads. I think they got less frequent when we got an actual 'History Club,' which feels like a shame! I remember a totally bonkers one where we all got very emotionally invested in Anne Boleyn's marriage. Grin

This thread is making me very nostalgic. I wish people wouldn't knock the reminiscence threads. It's nice thinking back.

ValiaH · 15/06/2020 09:01

So many names on here that I haven't seen for a long time! I've been here since 2012, it was much smaller and you kind of felt you 'knew' people from their posts and their posting style plus profiles being personalised. I particularly remember @tiktok as I was learning to breastfeed, and her advice on multiple threads helped me persevere with the middle of the night cluster feeds!

KayakingOnDown · 15/06/2020 09:02

I remember most of these names, have been on MN ten years.

Gentleotter was one of the first I remember - she started a thread about how to survive a cold winter on an isolated farm in Scotland. It must have been the cold winter of 2010-11.

Personally I always found LaQueen quite funny - she was so OTT and didn't annoy me.

I remember the controversy with Riven and it went mad when the press and prime minister and all got involved.

I don't miss Bertrand at all - she was intolerant, dogmatic and offensive - especially on the Brexit threads. Then she came on to try Meghan Markle threads simply to derail them, time and again - in a very obtuse way.

I miss TrickyTreeLou - I used to post on her threads, then they disappeared. I wonder how she is. Her story seemed incredible because her husband left her just as she got pregnant - they'd been trying to conceive for years. He infamously took the chutney with him

Does anyone remember OverTheShoulderBoulderHolder. It was a long time ago, but she was in a very abusive relationship, in South Africa. I wonder what became of her.

TheCanterburyWhales · 15/06/2020 09:17

SarahandQuack- I hadn't realised you were LRD though I should have.
I nearly listed you as a favourite MNer I hadn't seen for a while.

Bertrand is, at least, resolutely herself. I find myself irritated beyond belief at her, (my way or the highway/link! link! Provide a link or its not true!) or wanting to stand on a box and wave pom-poms for what she says (ageism on MN etc)

TheCanterburyWhales · 15/06/2020 09:18

Ooh that sounds dreadfully sycophantic Sarah. Ignore me. We PMd once about something literary. Grin

LadyEloise · 15/06/2020 09:19
