Old posters you sometimes think of

I was wondering today about a few old posters that either left or I haven’t seen in ages
Riven , eatshitderek (i think that’s what the username was) and another one I can’t remember the full name ghost something who was in temp accommodation I think ?
Does anyone else ever wonder about posters they dont see anymore

OP posts:
Saucery · 14/06/2020 15:51

That did happen but it wasn’t the recent ‘2 names on one thread’ incident after which Bert disappeared.

BikeRunSki · 14/06/2020 15:52

Not a particular pose, but a particular post has stayed with me. A fairly young poster (early 20s) was in an emotionally and financially abusive relationship with a much older man - late 40s I seem to remember. She was working 2 jobs and he wasn't working. She came on to have a rant that he'd eaten all the peanut butter, that she'd bought for her breakfasts after night shifts. Over the course of the lengthy thread she'd been persuaded to see that she was not being treated well ad that her partners was a total cock lodger. She promised to leave him, and had got as far as identifying a window when he'd be out and she'd be in to do it. She never cam back to tell us how shed got on, but she had 100s of people rooting for her. It was a very positive thread. Would have been 7 or 8 yers ago, maybe more.

Institutkarite · 14/06/2020 16:04

I didn't realise that there was other stuff with Bertrand.

TheEmpressMatilda · 14/06/2020 16:07

To make it clear it was another person that had registered as Bertrand RusselI

The same thing happened a couple of weeks ago and to a poster who was aggressively challenging racism in the Meghan-bashing threads. Someone started an account in their exact username, only they’d changed one letter and started a troll thread pretending to be her.

I remember the fake Bertrand incident. Separately there was a thread where Bertrand had a name change fail. She said she was ‘just trying out a new name‘. Bit embarrassing. I think she’s probably just name changed since then. I always enjoyed reading a thread with her on though.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/06/2020 16:33

Lottie and Wilf are both doing well, I speak to Lottie often.
ESD didn't lie about anything, and neither did StrandedBear, again, both are great, as are their lovely children.
So many mix ups on this thread.

HelloMissus · 14/06/2020 16:39

Scottishmummy - ‘words on a screen’

Also LeQueen who always posted about how lush she was. Then I saw the picture and was so disappointed. A bit fat in a polo shirt Sad

Bonsoir was funny for a while but she became very bitter and seemed to take against posters who she would then pursue around the site.

oldstripeyNEWname1 · 14/06/2020 16:41

I think the point is, people use mn for specific reasons at specific points in their lives, and you meet and identify with others matching those reasons/times. That might be longer - throughout fertility/pregnancy/schooling whatever or shorter - a relationship crisis. I've been here since pregnant with DS1, now 14. Relied on you in the earlier days, dipped in sometimes, not bothered at others.

For me being anonymous yet amongst friends is the attraction. Frustration set in when things got cliquey and bitchy. Interesting no one has mentioned missing Lapin & the original flouncers.

Posters that stick in my mind are those you make a connection with. What happened? Or I felt so sorry for them. Or, I really disagree with that! Or that's made me think!

I disagree with Xenia, but she makes me think. Expat, Catthief, MrsDeVere, Mears, TrinityRhino and the poster whose 8yr old son died of cancer a few months back all reasonate with me personally.

Does anyone remember a poster who was a consultant Dr (paediatric possibly) with 5/6 kids and carcrash homelife. Moeni? Mona? Something like that?

Soubriquet · 14/06/2020 16:43

I got faked....and they started a thread about Ben Stiller

I was very bemused when I logged in and saw a thread with a name that looked like mine at the time.

I’ve name changed since then

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2020 16:53

I got faked on another website. Picture of my bare boobs. Shock Grin Fun times. Kind of.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/06/2020 16:55

I'm glad ESD didn't lie as I sent her a big box of baby stuff we didn't need anymore! I didn't get the sense she was lying, as I wouldn't have offered, but enough people seemed sure that she had that I doubted myself. Phew!
VeniVidiVickiQV · 14/06/2020 16:56

@ssd

Wickedwaterwitch

Vickividi something else

Assuming you meant me, ssd?! At least I hope so, otherwise...awkward.

Still registered but rarely here. Smile

Spend most of my time on twitter these days.

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2020 16:58

ESD was very misunderstood toward the end, and now it's almost at the point of folklore the tales people spin. I hope she's doing well.

7ofNine · 14/06/2020 17:02

I didn't realise that had happened to bertrand- that's pretty crap tbh.

Soubriquet- why would anyone start a thread about Ben Stiller? Confused Grin

Soubriquet · 14/06/2020 17:03

She is Sparkling

I posted a few pages back a direct reply from her (we are FB friends)

She definitely did not lie about surprise baby, as she is now 4!

Soubriquet · 14/06/2020 17:04

Fucked if I know!!

It was something like “I think Ben Stiller is the best.”

And I was like HmmConfusedShock hang on a minute, they are trying to pretend to be me!!!

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2020 17:05

Oh that's brilliant to hear! 4? Shock
IHaveBrilloHair · 14/06/2020 17:05

She wasn't lying at all, she's lovely, v funny and dotes on her kids, hardworking too.
I'm not her cheerleader or anything, but its not fair that she's had all this mud slung at her for no reason.
Same wirh Stranded.

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2020 17:08

How can her eldest be 11? @Soubriquet That's insane.

She got treated terribly on here.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/06/2020 17:08

@Soubriquet
I'm wondering if I know you on FB?

NoWordForFluffy · 14/06/2020 17:09

Some people are twats, Brillo. Keyboard warriors in the main.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 14/06/2020 17:10

Eatshitderek, I hope she is doing ok.

MrsCastiel · 14/06/2020 17:13

ESD was marmite and the posters who didn't like her whipped up a frenzy.

I always liked her but was on a MN break so missed whatever it was that happened where she got accused of trolling and then couldn't make head nor tail of it (until you clarified, Brillo, in a similar thread a while ago)

Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2020 17:16

ESD made the 'mistake' of admitting enjoying a rum or two of an evening and owning a toddler. There was judging. She had some horrible stuff happen to her in RL but bounced back each time.
