Old posters you sometimes think of

1000 replies

selfishteenagers · 13/06/2020 22:00

I was wondering today about a few old posters that either left or I haven’t seen in ages
Riven , eatshitderek (i think that’s what the username was) and another one I can’t remember the full name ghost something who was in temp accommodation I think ?
Does anyone else ever wonder about posters they dont see anymore

OP posts:
AtaMarie · 14/06/2020 10:16

MrsDevere. I have missed her around these parts.

Once when I had a new baby (moons ago now) I posted a thread in absolute desperation about something or the other. Quite a few people were snarky but she was so gentle and kind and I have never forgotten it. Especially since I know she had her low moments herself.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 14/06/2020 10:16

@VaTeLaverLesMains

I feel like starting a pisstake thread sometime soon.
There will be tears and misunderstandings! mark my words Grin
NoWordForFluffy · 14/06/2020 10:16

@MamOfTwo

I think of Tunnocks sometimes and hope she and her kids are doing OK.

Also it's annoying me that I can't think of the name of the poster mentioned upthread - the one who had a baby with her gardener. She also possibly found 3K in her hedge but that may have been another poster entirely! I hope she is OK anyhow.

I saw Tunnocks relatively recently with a similar name (still had Tunnocks in it, maybe with returned or something).

The gardener (GEG) one is now annoying me too!

ZaZathecat · 14/06/2020 10:16

Cogitoergosometimes was a great asset to the relationships board, it's not the same without her.

We're bonsoir and bobochic the same person? They both came across a smugly perfect.

Okki · 14/06/2020 10:17

I think it was NoCapes who fancied GEG - the green eyed gardener and they went on to have a baby.

Didn't Maryz come back for a bit a couple of years ago?

VaTeLaverLesMains · 14/06/2020 10:18

ManicInsomniac was good fun, but I forget anything specific.

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 14/06/2020 10:19

I often think about Fluffydressinggown / thatScottishconfection who sadly died. Her posts were heartbreaking.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/06/2020 10:23

Yes! NoCapes! Thank you. 😁

HunkyPunk · 14/06/2020 10:26

Do you think we get fewer 'quotable' threads now on MN? (Have name-changed, btw, not that you'd know my old name, after proofreading ds1's uni essay on building materials - who knew 'hunky punk' was another name for a gargoyle?) Grin

I remember there being quite a few really entertaining/long running threads - e.g. Pom Bears, Cutted-up pear, lemon drizzle etc. Maybe it was because I'd just joined and it was all new and exciting for the first couple of years! Lots of posters mentioned, who I remember being in awe of Smile

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 14/06/2020 10:27

I really miss Cogito. Sometimes a thread comes up and I see her name and I think 'yay, shes back', then realise its an old thread.

howsoonisnow85 · 14/06/2020 10:27

I cant remember the username but remember the poster who kept name changing & posting the same situation. First thread was they got pregnant by a guy she'd just starting seeing & he didnt want her to have it, second thread was afew months later saying she was pregant but father wouldnt commit, afew months later it was heavily pregnant but bf wont help to pay for any maternity stuff! Everyone just kept telling her that he wasnt that interested & to cut her losses, I felt really sorry for her!

ageingdisgracefully · 14/06/2020 10:27

I've been on here since DD was a baby and she's 18 now Shock. How time has passed.

I remember lots of names but not posting styles.

I remember the Riven situation. Also:

Pagwatch.
Solidgoldbrass.
Xenia.
Eatshit.
Laqueen.
Expat.
Bibbitybobbittyhat.

Was it Pagwatch who had the amazing house in the country?

Anyfucker and Worraliberty are still around though?

nowlook · 14/06/2020 10:28

I wonder if JudgeFlounce ever got a legal qualification...

TheCanterburyWhales · 14/06/2020 10:31

The "escaping from DV" poster was DevilWearsPrimark and was rescued by the late Zombie.
DWP was widely believed to be not quite the victim she made herself out to be. I also firmly believe she has been mentioned on this thread under another name she used.
Rhubarb was also heavily involved (behind the scenes) with the "rescue" and disappeared at that point.
There was a weird namechanger also posting on the live threads that night who was either DWP or Rhubarb.

Zombie was used in some weird shit game that night.

nonsenceagain · 14/06/2020 10:34

Here c20 years and also name change often. I remember most listed but especially
Boffinmum
SGB
Getorf
Kew
Beachcomber
Dittany
Maryz

TinklyLittleLaugh · 14/06/2020 10:34

I can't believe they banned MrsDeVere; she was the absolute heart and soul of mumsnet. Still think of her and beautiful Billie.

SoleBizzz · 14/06/2020 10:34

Hullygully, Stratters, Worra and CatThief. My faves. 😂

Mysterian · 14/06/2020 10:35

I remember the moment I realised Hecate wasn't pronounced He-Kate.

VaTeLaverLesMains · 14/06/2020 10:36

I just started a thread for a laugh to post only in catchphrases, cliches and ad slogans.

Fairly inoffensive but probably will wind someone up.Grin

Lweji · 14/06/2020 10:37

Cogito definitely.
Oftentimes I only had to type "what Cogito said". Grin

I'm sure I've crossed paths with worra recently.

Claig could be fun and entertaining, but I don't miss the fill threads with copy paste junk bot version. I'm pretty sure they were a collective and towards their end one version wasn't organic for sure.

Larkspurandhollyhocks · 14/06/2020 10:39

StrangeTimes

That was Cod, yes way too much personal info even back then

TheCanterburyWhales · 14/06/2020 10:42

Cogito was fabulous.
WWIFN less so as all her advice was a projection from her own experience even when the OP's story was very different.

Cod is still around and immediately recognisable (which is ironic given her supposed "outing" issues) with her nastiness about other women's appearance and clothing.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 14/06/2020 10:42

I think they still post occasionally but I'd love to see more of Pagwatch and Bitoffun who always seemed to be two of the most entertaining and thoughtful posters to me.

Gutted about Maryz being banned.

The funniest poster was TalcandTurnips. Loved her and Hassled, Chaos, Hullygully, Absy, QuintessentialShadow, Mrs DeVere - they were around a lot when I used to post more on MN.

Right now, like many others, I'm hoping Bertrand is ok. I think I would recognise her even under a name change.

I guess LaQueen is no longer here? She's another one who can't disguise herself for long.

ShowOfHands · 14/06/2020 10:42

Interestingly, dd (13) has just read one of Riven's DH's books and said it was brilliant. So much so that DH then read it too and heartily agreed. I only realised who it was when DH looked up the author to see what else he had written and his bio rang a bell.

dreamingbohemian · 14/06/2020 10:44

Oh I miss Cheerful Yank! She was indeed very cheerful.

I do feel MN was more whimsical back in the day.
