We still do not know what is going on in care homes. I think perhaps with so many having died there will be less residents and the ones that survived will get better care. Our health board kicked the elderly out of hospital and into care homes as instructed to free beds. So they may have died of whatever put them in hospital in the first place. We will never know autopsies not being performed.

PickAChew · 10/06/2020 20:59

The reason we can get even the coronavirus colds again is because immunity wears off, but worst-case scenario if the vaccine goes the same way (which it might well not) is that NHS would do coronavirus vaccines annually like flu vaccines.

I've been musing on a tangent to this theme, over the past few days. I have a suspicion that autumn and winter, as we (hopefully) live more normal lives, is going to be hellish from a general viral point of view because our immune systems haven't been constantly refreshed. There are going to be some particularly nasty colds and sickness bugs, which, of course, will all be put down to covid-19, regardless.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/06/2020 21:01

I've had a right failiure tonight...
I was hoping to defiantly break the roolz and sneak the kids over the fence into the playground and even DS who at 9 is generally too cool for playgrounds and normally uber law abiding and will pass loud comments at loitering teenagers (yep, that went on his ASD referral notes that went to the GP) was well up for it...

So there we are psyched for breakin' da roolz and the police are already there, first on the far side of the community hall, then come round to the side of the outdoor gum where we were weighing up the situation to come and talk to a couple of yoofs loitering that they had already encouraged to move on.

Last night's incursion of yoofs had left a lot of litter.

Gutted to have been intercepted by the police though. We gave up after a few minutes of distant observation and went and explored another public footpath while DS1 ranted all the way home.

This is my 40th year of life...never did I dream that I would be subersively loitering around childrens' play areas with intent Grin I've got to laugh or I will cry. (Even better. DH is cracking on towards 50 and has a mop of white hair Grin Grin Grin )

Though on the other hand, colds and flu are probably not going to spread as much, given that we will all be washing our hands like maniacs and there will probably be some element left of enforced distancing. There will also probably much better cleaning routines in place.

But on the flip side to that people are much much more aware of modes of transmission. I started washing my hands every time I got to work or home a few years ago. Before that I used to catch everything going but since I’m down to one or two minor colds a season. If everyone keeps up the hand hygiene thing it’ll make a big difference to seasonal illnesses.
AnxiousElephant77 · 10/06/2020 21:06

Any 'enforced' distancing is not going to work for me, in anything other than the short term.

No Christmas then? No parties? No nothing.

HesterShaw1 · 10/06/2020 21:09

AnxiousElephant oh yes I agree. The though of not socialising is a truly dreadful one.

I just meant more in the workplace maybe. There will be a lot more cleaning going on, and maybe fewer people crammed in as more people continue to work from home and do staggered starts and so on.

AnxiousElephant77 · 10/06/2020 21:11

Sorry @HesterShaw1 I'm in such a foul mood tonight. I really thought we were starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel but Witty has finished me off.

Thank goodness for the sanity here or I would honestly feel like it was just me.

SomewhereEast · 10/06/2020 21:22

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel Thats really interesting. Thank you!

BakewellTarts · 10/06/2020 21:26

@ThatLibraryMiss I'm relieved about the bubble too. My sister was widowed at the start of April and has really struggled not only with her grief but her son / my nephews. He's only 11 and it's been really tough. They are coming to stay this weekend. Hurrah!

MagdaS · 10/06/2020 21:28

I cried over Teams to a colleague today, a new low. Blush

I was just so frustrated with all the ‘return only when it’s safe’ bollocks whilst watching my team’s mental health crumble round me that it just tipped me over the edge. I felt so helpless. Normally I can put measures in place to help team members who are struggling but I just can’t access anything I would normally. And we’re being told at least 3 days a week WFH is forever. It’s not what I signed up for.

Anyway, that and a rant to my other very non-dementor colleague helped me get some of it out of my system. We were just a bit scathing about the part of the work risk assessment that suggests if you drive your own car for work purposes, on your own, you should open the windows for ventilation.

What, so you don’t catch the virus from yourself??

TheGreatWave · 10/06/2020 21:30

Bakewell it is such lovely news that your sister is able to come and stay for the weekend. I hope it is a weekend full of support and happiness, even though there is likely to be tears I hope that she is bolstered by the weekend.

Ibake · 10/06/2020 21:36

Ha @malteserdiet. I warned my DH to ensure we were 'lawyered up'. He looked briefly alarmed that we were getting divorced until I reassured him that it is because his DW is likely to get herself arrested any day now!

Teateaandmoretea · 10/06/2020 21:36

What, so you don’t catch the virus from yourself??

Well as the dementors would say there’s no evidence you can’t. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Michaelschofield · 10/06/2020 21:39

I’m so glad I’ve found this thread. I thought it was just me who felt like this.

Michaelschofield · 10/06/2020 21:39

I’ve been told off on Facebook tonight for suggesting it’s ridiculous kids can’t play at parks.

BakewellTarts · 10/06/2020 21:40

@PickAChew I hope if everyone continues to wash their hands and practices common sense wrt sneezing and tissue disposal we might be more healthy? I am an optimist.

@TheGreatWave thanks we had a picnic with them last week but will be so nice to have them stay. Much more relaxed and she can have a break / lie in without having to be on mum duty. My DDs love and get on well with their cousin and all will go off happily together. Everyone wins.

Dowser · 10/06/2020 21:42

It’s great to see so many on the lockdown thread have found us over here

BarkandCheese · 10/06/2020 21:43

Welcome Michaelschofield, we’re all for children playing in parks here.

Khione · 10/06/2020 21:44

@MaudesMum Only bad news is publicised so no risk of that making a splash.

I suspect our immunity will be low due to lack of social contact - particularly the kids when they get back in school.

Less risk hopefully for adults due to more hygiene as @BarkandCheese said, the (hopefully) remnants of social distancing giving an excuse not to shake hands or air kiss strangers and the fact that some vulnerable people who would have been at risk have already died.

Nihiloxica · 10/06/2020 21:47

DV violence and murders through the roof, children left without the safety net of school, the elderly left to deteriorate alone, vital operations and treatments cancelled, but at all costs we must protect the vulnerable.

The irony is lost on Dementors. Or they refuse to see it.

Domina ❤ - stick with us, we're a motley crew, but we'll keep you going.

Your brave determination has been so inspiring to me. I am very grateful for your contributions.

One of the most galling things about all this to me is that on top of the total failure of our society to focus on anything but COVID we have the pantomime of rainbows, clapping, masks, stupid adverts. It’s like a piss take of what an operative, caring society should look like. A total farce, all for show while everything gets fucked.

PickAChew · 10/06/2020 21:56

I'd hope that the Handwashing habits would be maintained, too and hopefully in enough numbers to buffer the likes of DS1 who washes his precisely once a day (because I make him do it!) and will not entertain hand gel.

justasking111 · 10/06/2020 22:00

Wales testing positive results 38 today. 9 deaths. Wales lockdown and tourism will be reviewed in July. Scotland hope to open everything on 15 July, pubs, restaurants, hotels. Glad Scotland is being proactive whilst Wales dithers for another month.

@MagdaS it’s horrible and must be so frustrating for you. This wfh forever business is fucked, it’s not normal, it’s not how humans are supposed to be, stuck in their houses all the time.

I’m praying my office opens sooner than expected (university- could be September, could be January) and I am 100% going to lie and say DH is driving me in so they don’t try to stop me coming on public transport.
