What the hell just happened to my window?

I've name changed in case the neighbours recognise my pile of crap garden.

I was playing with DS while DH made the dinner when I heard a thud from the kitchen, I assumed DH had dropped something. DH starts saying "what just happened" so we went through to the kitchen.

My kitchen window looks like it's been shot. DH didn't see anything hit it and has been out to look for anything that might be lying around. Can't see anything. Luckily it's only through one pane of glass and it's on the outside as I really can't afford a new window.

Excuse the mess, it needs taken to the tip when they start accepting bigger things. But can anyone solve the mystery? Is it just an old crappy window

Was it the cat jumping for something? Or a bird hitting it?!

ThePug · 04/06/2020 19:19

Bird?

Oneearringlost · 04/06/2020 19:21

This happened to us once. Completely out of the blue, the window is under a glass roof so nothing hit it, I was there and just watched it slowly splinter. The man who replaced it said it's not uncommon

BB gun. Looks the same as when my car was shot.

dudsville · 04/06/2020 19:22

Bird. I get buts flying into windows from time to time. Look for the dust from their wings.

LillianBland · 04/06/2020 19:22

Have a look outside and see if there is anything lying about. Is there anything between the pains?

Ipadipod · 04/06/2020 19:22

I reckon it’s a bird as well, I had similar, heard a thump and then a blinking great wood pigeon flew into the house. It must have flown into the open patio door, flapped about and flown through it. Poor thing was stunned.

Smallsteps88 · 04/06/2020 19:23

Pellet gun? They’re really small balls that wouldn’t necessarily stand out as bullets. Could be between the two pains of glass or in amongst the pile of stuff sitting under the window.

dudsville · 04/06/2020 19:23

I looked at the pic again up close. I change my vote to bbgun

windowmystery · 04/06/2020 19:23

I did wonder about a BB gun but I thought the pellet might be stuck in the window?

Don't think it was a bird as watch cat usually chirps at them. She'd have been going mad. As it was she just jumped off the window ledge and looked a little alarmed.

Pressure change? We had that happen once.

Hatscats · 04/06/2020 19:23

BB gun maybe, my brother did this when we were kids! Looked the same

windowmystery · 04/06/2020 19:25

The hole is perfectly round and there's a little bit of glass missing right in the middle.

Pellet gun. Had this happen to a window in a house I rented.

Elsiebear90 · 04/06/2020 19:28

It’s probably a BB gun or air rifle, I used to live behind a really rough block of flats and would frequently hear gun shots (don’t think it was illegal guns as never anything in the news, but air rifles maybe), one day our neighbours window got shot and looked just like that.

Smallsteps88 · 04/06/2020 19:29

Any likely BB gun enthusiasts in those houses behind you? Any curtain twitching going on?

Smallsteps88 · 04/06/2020 19:31

Was the cat on the windowsill when this happened?

YurtleTheTurtle · 04/06/2020 19:31

I think someone little cherub has tried to shoot your cat lovely Angry

YurtleTheTurtle · 04/06/2020 19:31

Someone's

windowmystery · 04/06/2020 19:32

She was but she can't annoy any of my neighbours. She's an indoor moggy. I don't really know the neighbours that way but it's perfectly possible. There's loads of kids round this way.

Another vote for pellet gun. Is that a road that runs between the bottom of your garden and the other houses? Could someone have been aiming for your cat in the window? Or get all CSI and follow the trajectory of the hole to see if it leads to one of your neighbours windows. Seriously, it's far more likely to be a random passing f*ckwit than specifically targeting you or your cat.

Beekeeper1 · 04/06/2020 19:36

Are any of your neighbours lawnmowing or strimming - strimmers, especially, are capable of flinging small stones at extremely high speed which certainly could cause damage like that. If not, then, yes, I would suspect a BB gun or high powered air rifle.

Esspee · 04/06/2020 19:36

You can get the glass replaced without having to replace the frame. Our window guy did this and saved us quite a lot of money.

Smallsteps88 · 04/06/2020 19:37

she can't annoy any of my neighbours. She's an indoor moggy.

Sadly this wouldn’t be relevant to some. There are some who just hate cats, and others who literally have no consideration for living creatures. They’re just good for target practise.

windowmystery · 04/06/2020 19:40

Nobody cutting the grass. It's been pissing it down most of the day here.
DS has now taken a nap on me but I'll go out for a good look later. Not that it really matters, nothing can be done but I'd like to know.
It's an ex-council estate but it's not particularly rough I wouldn't have said.
It's so sad to think someone would have potentially aimed at my wee cat. She's a lovely wee thing.
