What the hell just happened to my window?

windowmystery · 04/06/2020 19:18

I've name changed in case the neighbours recognise my pile of crap garden.

I was playing with DS while DH made the dinner when I heard a thud from the kitchen, I assumed DH had dropped something. DH starts saying "what just happened" so we went through to the kitchen.

My kitchen window looks like it's been shot. DH didn't see anything hit it and has been out to look for anything that might be lying around. Can't see anything. Luckily it's only through one pane of glass and it's on the outside as I really can't afford a new window.

Excuse the mess, it needs taken to the tip when they start accepting bigger things. But can anyone solve the mystery? Is it just an old crappy window

I’m looking at the windows opposite yours . Looks like an easy shot , do you know those people? Or is there a footpath/access behind your garden?

I don't know any of them, I know my neighbours either side. I've logged it with 101 and they're going to call me back on Sunday to take details and give me a crime reference number. It would be quite an easy shot and I don't know them at all. DH can't find anything but I've logged it anyway. We'll see what happens a

Update, my neighbour thinks someone new has moved in the other side of the gardens and someone in the next street over had their window shot today and her neighbour has cctv.

aFaintSeashellAroma · 04/06/2020 21:29

Have they checked cctv? Hope they catch the bastard. £350 we had to pay 😡 idiots who think it’s funny. Keep us updated

windowmystery · 04/06/2020 21:35

No not yet, police a bit thin on the ground. Even if they can't pin anything for here I hope they still get caught for something. I have accidental damage cover on my buildings so hoping that might help.

Hopefully insurance willl cover. Keep an ear out for local cats injured/missing and keep car parked well away from new people.. od maybe put blinds down at the side of house when out or in bed to try encourage cat to sit away from their view x

Elsiebear90 · 04/06/2020 21:43

@GreyGardens88 it didn’t particularly bother me at the time because I assumed it was someone target shooting as we heard it regularly. I don’t know a lot about guns at all, so didn’t know they were dangerous from such a distance. However, after the neighbour had their bedroom window shot I got concerned, and we moved out shortly after. I don’t think they were deliberately targeted, I think it was a stray pellet, but shows the force as the nearest house and garden is some distance away.

windowmystery · 04/06/2020 21:45

They have their own room they spend overnight in which is the other side of the house. I'll put w load of things on that window ledge tomorrow so she can't sit on it as easily. We've also told our neighbours so they can keep an eye on their pets too.

Looks like a BB gun shot to me too.

Looking at the bottom of the pane, is it glass on the inside of the frame? It looks a bit like debris of some form. It could potentially be the culprit of the hole?

windowmystery · 04/06/2020 21:57

It's just bits of glass.

jalopy · 04/06/2020 22:13

A pellet, I reckon.

If a bird has hit the window, normally you can see grease marks from their body/wings.

packetandtripe · 04/06/2020 23:03

pellet gun, start rolling a magnet around. It is there to be found.

LolaDarkdestroyer · 04/06/2020 23:38

Some sicko has tried to shoot your cat I'd be ringing the police and also warning Keillor on fb or whatever probably Live in the grim looking house at the bottom of your garden do you know who lives there?

granadagirl · 04/06/2020 23:42

I was going to say BB gun or catapult

PerspicaciaTick · 04/06/2020 23:45

Catapult. Smashing car and house windows with a catapult was very popular among a certain group of children in our area earlier this year.

JacobReesMogadishu · 04/06/2020 23:47

Definitely a pellet gun of some sort. Hope the police take this seriously and talk to the houses behind you.

Firstinlastout · 05/06/2020 05:09

We had this a couple of years ago.Got back from holiday and opened the upstairs blind to find the exact same thing. We back on to quite a few houses so hard to know who it was.Phoned the police straight away, they came round, but it was just a case of "can you think if you've upset anyone".We dont know anyone from there so think it was just random. We had the metal ball, they looked around the garden and gave us a number, said they'd make enquiries ,didn't hear anything else.Like others have said ,it's just mindless and we're the ones out of pocket. It wasnt worth claiming on the house insurance in the end. Some people just don't give a shit.

Knucklehead101 · 05/06/2020 05:29

Nothing helpful to add but sympathy and your cat looks like a beauty

tara66 · 05/06/2020 05:37

Think that is a bullet shot. Had exactly the same thing - a kid shooting birds. We even found the bullet in the room. Look for it.

FortunesFave · 05/06/2020 05:43

That's terrible OP! How worrying :( I think you should put up some wood or something over that window and to be honest, others on that side of the house too. It's dangerous!

FortunesFave · 05/06/2020 05:44

It has to be someone from one of the houses we can see in the picture doesn't it? Get a security camera OP!

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/06/2020 05:50

Sad sorry you’ve got an idiot just moved in. I hope you find some resolution.

saleorbouy · 05/06/2020 06:11

As others have said it looks like a pellet gun. To avoid the window breaking further you could get some security film, or similar to stabilise the broken pane, that way it would be less dangerous.
