Rain please

Is anybody else praying for rain - the land is parched and arid, desperately in need of a few days of good, steady rain to reduce the soil moisture deficit. The fields are brown, little grass growing for grazing animals, the wheat, barley and other cereal crops need a good soaking to bring them on and plump the grain and trees are starting to show signs of drought stress.

Here, in the South West, my raingauge has recorded less than half an inch of rain since the beginning of March!

When it does come, the land will breathe a huge sigh of relief, soak it up, belch and, like Oliver Twist, ask for more. I cannot wait for it and that gorgeous petrichor smell that will accompany it!

Anyone care to join me in a rain dance

It's supposed to be coming tomorrow isn't it? It's going to smell AMAZING.

ClassicCola · 02/06/2020 19:49

A day of steady rain, then back to sun will do me.

Auridon4life · 02/06/2020 19:54

Summer thunderstorms are lush. I love summer rain.

mencken · 02/06/2020 19:55

tonight, with luck.... so much being wasted watering lawns and washing cars, and of course in unrepaired water company leaks.

Beekeeper1 · 02/06/2020 19:56

Yes, forecast for tommorow, but, by all accounts, will be patchy and many places will not receive any, and only for the one day, which will not be enough.

I appreciate that I am probably in the minority in wanting it!

@Auridon4life, yes, summer rain and thunderstorms are fantastic. According to my mum, when I was very little, I used to run out into the garden to sing and dance in a thunderstorm. Still do that now (well, not the singing and dancing bit), love going out for a walk during a thunderstorm

Will join you in the rain dance Op Grin

Oxyiz · 02/06/2020 21:53

Yes I am so excited for tomorrow! And then hopefully a few cool days so it can really sink into the ground. I love rain so much. Everything outside is yellowing near us at the moment.

amusedbush · 02/06/2020 21:55

It has been raining here today. I keep staring at the forecast for the next few days - I can’t wait until it’s 12 degrees and I’m not boiling alive in my own house 😂

Dontletthebastardscheeryouup · 02/06/2020 21:55

I am hoping for rain. There’s dust everywhere around me and everything needs a rinse down.

FuzzyPuffling · 02/06/2020 21:56

Also in the SE and also rain dancing. I have put a row of buckets outside and disconnected a gutter into a tub I the hope of catching a bit more. ( The three water butts are dry). Bring it on.

Its the start of June
rains every year

soupmaker · 02/06/2020 22:06

Rain started this evening on the West Coast of Scotland. Our windows are open and the smell of the earth and the massive honeysuckle in our front garden is gorgeous.

SoapyChoc · 02/06/2020 22:09

I'm delighted it's due to rain. Gives me a couple of days off watering the allotment. I'm also pleased it'll be a little bit cooler so I can exercise in the day and hopefully sleep better at night as won't be too hot.

WhenSheWasBad · 02/06/2020 22:11

It should rain tonight. Hopefully it will continue. Everything’s so dry and dusty, it’s starting to remind me of that awful drought we had a few years back.

Andante57 · 02/06/2020 22:12

Much looking forward to rain as the garden is bone dry.

GooodMythicalMorning · 02/06/2020 22:13

Bet it'll rain on our anniversary (this month) always does! torrential on our wedding day.

I'm actually hoping for rain too. our ground is so cracked and horrid and all the plants look dead.

middleager · 02/06/2020 22:13

I think, as Phil said, I can feel it coming in the air tonight.

Bloodybridget · 02/06/2020 22:13

Absolutely desperate for rain here (London). Looks like we will get some over the next few days, but it won't be anything like enough.

slipperywhensparticus · 02/06/2020 22:15

The day before yesterday the sun destroyed my tomatoe seedlings and burnt my sunflowers to death the sun can take a break for a day or two

Crunchymum · 02/06/2020 22:18

Guarantee you rain in a few weeks, it's my birthday and it always rains on my Mid June birthday. Always.

TimeWastingButFun · 02/06/2020 22:19

Yep, it would be nice not to have to use the sprinkler and get a good drenching on the garden.

Albern · 02/06/2020 22:22

I hope it rains tonight, I love the rain especially after it's been so hot, we water our garden every night but nothing beats a good soaking for the garden.

LittlePesto · 02/06/2020 22:23

Its pouring down with rain here just now. I'm lying on the couch with the window open and the TV off so I can listen to it, and it smells so relaxing! Grin

Youngatheart00 · 02/06/2020 22:23
