Shit! Is there anything I can do? Screwed up Tesco delivery.

My fault...I accidentally sent my (£200) Tesco delivery to our old address.

It’s registering as “delivered”. My son has run around there to see if they’ve taken it all in.

If they have and choose to keep it, what if anything can I do? Tesco customer service is closed at this time of night.

Can’t believe this has happened. We have very little money for more food 😥 I am such a fucking idiot.

Of course you can't go storming round there at 8am. Not the way to resolve this at all!

Hopefully, they've refused the delivery.

Rubyroost · 02/06/2020 06:48

As I Said before, this happened to us when tesco couldn't find our addrss. It's an automated message and you go hammering on someone's door late at night before you get your facts right. Good one!

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 02/06/2020 06:48

It might have been refused op. Don’t blame others for your mistake.

Stompythedinosaur · 02/06/2020 06:49

I'm another one who wonders whether the shopping could have been returned and the app is incorrect.

Grobagsforever · 02/06/2020 06:49

Good luck OP!

DeltaFlyer · 02/06/2020 06:50

If you haven't already done it op. Delete your old address off your tesco account so you can't repeat the same mistake.
I moved house and deleted my old address off the delivery and never had a problem but I didn't realise my Clubcard stuff was being sent to the old house until much later. Had to delve into the account settings to sort that one out

Ceebeegee · 02/06/2020 06:52

There's a good chance the app is just wrong and it hasn't been delivered.
I had a Tesco delivery that couldn't reach me a few months ago because of the floods. The app said order delivered but I got a refund for the order within a day or two.
So I'd agree with posters about contacting Tesco before the other house holder.

JingleCatJingle · 02/06/2020 06:52

We had home heating oil accidentally delivered to the wrong address and the neighbour put the bill in through our letterbox.

You need to talk to Tesco though!

lilgreen · 02/06/2020 06:53

OP you’re absolutely right. Nobody decent would take free shopping in the current climate. Most people know how hard it’s been to get slots or queue to get food and socially awkward distance at supermarkets. Good luck but stay calm. I’m sure Tesco will sort it.

oohnicevase · 02/06/2020 06:56

I did this when I moved and the lovely girl who bought my house sent them to my new address in the next town .. I was very grateful !

guineapig1 · 02/06/2020 06:58

You need to speak to Tesco before you do anything else to acertain whether the delivery was accepted.

As other people have pointed out , even if they have accepted delivery this isn’t necessarily sinister - if we received a supermarket delivery whilst I was asleep or at work (lots of evening/night shift workers) DH would assume I’d ordered it and would accept delivery and put it away. It wouldn’t even occur to him to ask the driver to check the nane, especially if the driver had already said “number xx?”

CodenameVillanelle · 02/06/2020 06:59

It's highly likely that the app updates automatically after the delivery slot and they didn't take in the delivery at all.

Hanamuslim · 02/06/2020 07:06

@nosquirrels excellent. That's really well put and putting them in the position in to doing the right thing

Moondust001 · 02/06/2020 07:08

If someone came hammering on my door late at night, then came around flinging wild accusations the first thing next morning, the only thing they would get is the police called on them. You don't know what has happened, but you definitely know that this is your fault, so stop acting like it isn't.

Budapestpest · 02/06/2020 07:13

Hope you get it op. Also hoping they didn’t take your shopping, that’s incredibly out of order if they did

Hanamuslim · 02/06/2020 07:14

I've had an Asda order saying delivered when the driver rung my bell and.my bell was.broke and so I didn't know he was there. He tapped delivered on his little machine and took it all back to Asda
Trying to get hold of Asda where we live down south is dreadful, even before covid19.
I managed to get the shopping back the next day but its ridiculous. I have had so many problems with them and barely get them resolved. So I do hope that Tesco will be better with communicating with you and you do get your shopping back.

I would suggest waiting and contacting Tesco first, then go round if tesco do say they have delivered the shopping and if Tesco cant resolve the matter. Go round nice and polite and I'd say use the wording from @NoSquirrels idea of a note to talk to them and then if they still don't answer, have a note ready with what nosquirrels said ,post it through the door. Wait a while, if still nothing and they have decided to keep the shopping, and don't get.back to you, then that's really bad. Bit I would then phone the police 101. Because it might be a theft matter, I am not entirely sure. Best of luck!!!

Roselilly36 · 02/06/2020 07:15

Firstly the only person to blame here is you OP, so before trying to claim the person who now lives at the address you instructed Tesco to deliver too has decided to keep your shopping, find out first if they accepted delivery. I know I wouldn’t have.

When I had my shopping delivered the other day, the driver said a colleague of his had delivered a customers shop to a neighbouring town, the shopping was left on the doorstep. The customer called them up where is my shop? Turned out she had moved to my town, 9 or so miles away, and hadn’t let them know. So you aren’t the first OP.

Footywife · 02/06/2020 07:17

Ffs. Have you considered that they might not have actually taken it in. Get off your high horse and wait until you actually know the truth. This was your screw up. It's highly likely that there was an error on the tesco app.

You don't know they were 'refusing to answer the door'.....all you know is there was no answer.. Maybe they were in bed....maybe they were at work....maybe nobody actually lives there.

If it turns out it is an error r on the app then I assume you'll also be creating a Facebook Post apologising to the people at that house for slagging them off on a forum.

You don't sound like a very nice person tbh.

Looking forward to your update...

geojojo · 02/06/2020 07:18

I honestly don't know a single person that would use someone else's shopping knowing it wasn't theirs. I would hope for the best. I've recently moved house and gave the new people my address to pass on post. Do they have yours? Maybe they're planning on dropping it around and only took it in to put the cold things in the fridge/freezer?

SebandAlice · 02/06/2020 07:20

Tesco automatically says delivered when the time slot has past. You don’t know if they accepted it or not. Do not call to them until after you have spoken to Tesco.

Hanamuslim · 02/06/2020 07:21

Moon dust, I do see OP recognises this as her own mistake which is why she came on her asking for advice to rectify and solve the problem.

Yes, going round to someone's house at 11pm is rather late but they would have had to been up to unpack the shopping and or decide what to do with it. Maybe They could have even opened the letterbox and asked who it was. I dont know I wouldn't open the door at 11pm myself.

Also OP with tesco, they give you a delivery note with all your bought items And of any substitutes, so they would have had to have seen your name on the top of the delivery sheet. So maybe they will try and get hold of tesco themselves this morning. Maybe they also had a teenager take the shopping in assuming it was their parents order. You never know their situation. My son unpacked some food shopping the other day that clearly got nicer with ours in a.home delivery. Potatoes and onions, popcorn and pringles. It was too late to tell the delivery driver. I didn't realise until the next day when I saw them and said hang on, I didn't order these.
Next time I pop round to Asda, I will pay for them but not take them home if you know what I mean. Just tell the woman to put them back after she has scanned them .Just the right thing to do and so I hope these people will do the same

LisaSimpsonsbff · 02/06/2020 07:21

People keep saying that they might not have accepted it - would OP really get a full refund in that position? It seems really generous if so - her mistake wasted a delivery slot and the driver's time and can everything really go back out on the shelves, even frozen stuff? I don't really like the idea that I could be buying stuff that was out of the freezer (I know their vans are refrigerated but it never feels very cold when delivered) for the full time that the driver was out for.

JustVisiting9 · 02/06/2020 07:24

I had the supermarket trying to deliver someone else's goods. In my case,, the driver was on the wrong street (I live on xxx Road, he wanted xxx Drive). I sent him to the correct house, but it was after 10pm and I wasn't happy about being woken from my bed.

I expect the people who live in your old house are also not impressed. And I am not surprised that they didn't answer their door after 11pm to your son, neither would I have.

I think when you go around today, the first thing you should do is apologise to them for disturbing their night twice due to your mistakes. I think you should go round to apologise anyway, even if it turns out they refused the delivery and it's back at the shop.

I cannot believe people are suggesting that the police should be involved!

Hanamuslim · 02/06/2020 07:26

Hahaha whoops. It was meant to say someone else's shopping got mixed in with ours. Bloody predictive text!

AlwaysCheddar · 02/06/2020 07:26

The husband/kid may have accepted the shopping Not realising his wife didn’t order it!
