Shit! Is there anything I can do? Screwed up Tesco delivery.

My fault...I accidentally sent my (£200) Tesco delivery to our old address.

It’s registering as “delivered”. My son has run around there to see if they’ve taken it all in.

If they have and choose to keep it, what if anything can I do? Tesco customer service is closed at this time of night.

Can’t believe this has happened. We have very little money for more food 😥 I am such a fucking idiot.

OP posts:

Theft Act will give you an answer, OP.

Amazed to see some responses on here, rather worrying.

Ginger1982 · 02/06/2020 17:47

FGS, another one where OP vanishes...

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 02/06/2020 18:02

It is theft. There was a similar thread on here a few weeks ago where the OPs sister mistakenly delivered an expensive gift to the wrong address on the same street. Same advice there, the people at that address were not entitled to keep the items. Same as if you find £10 on the street - nothing would probably come of it if you take it, but it is theft by finding. They are not entitled to keep the items. Fortunately the law doesn't discriminate between some shopping or a bank card being mis-delivered; can you imagine how you'd feel if you accidentally had your new contactless bank card sent to the wrong address and you then found it wasn't theft for the people at that address to go ahead and use it?!

curtainsforme · 02/06/2020 18:02

@PurplePansy05

The people who kept her shopping and didn't pay for it, it's pretty obvious Confused

Who kept the shopping?

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 02/06/2020 18:04

@curtainsforme I think it's pretty obvious that the discussion is centred around the legality of the situation if the new homeowners did keep the shopping Hmm

curtainsforme · 02/06/2020 18:05

@SuckingDownDarjeeling

I was responding to a post suggesting 'they' were reported to the police, not joining in with the whatifery.

The poster I was talking to seems to know something the rest of us don't.

PurplePansy05 · 02/06/2020 18:11

The original post says:

"My son has run around there to see if they’ve taken it all in.

If they have and choose to keep it, what if anything can I do?"

Oh, the mysterious they, my crystal ball must know all about them. I shall go and ask especially for you, curtains, I'm inspired. Thank you.

nomorefencepostsplease · 02/06/2020 18:13

@PurplePansy05

Reporting who?

The people who kept her shopping and didn't pay for it, it's pretty obvious Confused

If they took her trolley full of food that she paid for from outside Tesco, it would be the same thing. It's theft.

Yes, who kept the shopping?

OP hasn't bothered to come back so we have no idea whether the shopping was left at the "wrong" address or whether they refused delivery/weren't in/said to the driver "we haven't ordered this, there must be a mistake"

Not sure what your emoticon is meant to imply. It's not pretty obvious as we don't actually know what happened.

It's not "pretty obvious" to me or a lot of other posters

curtainsforme · 02/06/2020 18:14

@PurplePansy05

You omitted the part where OP doesn't actually know if they took the shopping in.

Oh, the mysterious they, my crystal ball must know all about them. I shall go and ask especially for you, curtains, I'm inspired. Thank you.

I can't even work out what you are trying to say here, let alone for a response.

ScarletFever · 02/06/2020 18:15

@PinkMeringue are you in the South of the UK with initials GS?

CodenameVillanelle · 02/06/2020 18:18

Only it is. They didn't pay for it and their name was not on the order

And how do you know the other people actually took the delivery in and didn't send it back to Tesco as 99% of people would do?

PurplePansy05 · 02/06/2020 18:19

If it is reported to the police, the police will investigate it, take statements from the Tesco driver and all involved. If the criteria set out in the Theft Act are satisfied then it is theft. There clearly is a way of at least investigating what happened. On the face of it, the most likely scenario is that whoever currently lives at this address accepted and retained OP's shopping. And that's theft.

Thisismytimetoshine · 02/06/2020 18:22

I very much doubt the police would take statements from the Tesco driver! They'll quite reasonably tell op to deal with Tesco directly.
Which if she has any sense at all she will already have done.

PurplePansy05 · 02/06/2020 18:23

Codename, I agree with that, if that's what's happened then it's a different story. My comments were based on the assumption the shopping was not returned, perhaps I should have been clearer.

However, I agree, the OP hasn't updated us in that regard and we can't be sure, so your comment is absolutely right.

AnneBullen · 02/06/2020 18:24

Do we think this was probably a begging thread?

lostfrequencies · 02/06/2020 18:29

@AnneBullen yeah I reckon so

Lockheart · 02/06/2020 18:29

@FabbyChix "Typical posting a threat then not updating that’s seriously rude"

Wtf.

No, it's not. It's a thread on a public forum, not a soap opera, and OP can do as she likes with her own thread.

If you want guaranteed dramatic updates and entertainment you need to watch TV.

SunshineCake · 02/06/2020 18:29

There is no "we" AnneBullen Hmm.

SharonasCorona · 02/06/2020 18:30

@AnneBullen I think so too

VenusTiger · 02/06/2020 18:30

Didn't the OP say that it said delivered on the online booking page?

Either way, I'm going to assume that the new household didn't accept the shopping and the OP is now too embarrassed to come back and update us.

CodenameVillanelle · 02/06/2020 18:47

On the face of it, the most likely scenario is that whoever currently lives at this address accepted and retained OP's shopping

No, on the face of it, Tesco tried to deliver to the wrong house, took the shopping back to the depot and the system automatically updated with 'delivered' as it does after the delivery time slot has passed.

The OP assumed they had kept her shopping because she didn't understand that 'delivered' doesn't actually mean it has been delivered.

Pertella · 02/06/2020 18:51

They could be classed as unsolicited goods... Wink

Although if something is delivered to you by mistake, the onus is on the delivery company to sort it out. The person mistakenly receiving the goods doesn't have to give them to the person claiming that they were intended for them, as its quite a common scam, via ID fraud, to order goods to be delivered to a "wrong" address and then go and collect them.

SkinSkin · 02/06/2020 19:02

As soon as the van is loaded they often put delivered even though it's not. That scared the life out of me once!

I reckon, OP, the driver tried to call and if they couldn't they turned around and took it back to the store. They usually try to reschedule if they can but not always possible.

TheBananaInPyjamas · 02/06/2020 19:11

OP I'm hoping your shopping was just rejected and has been redelivered to you. I know the stress of trying to get Tesco slots and it must have been so frustrating realising it was going to the wrong place.

Don't beat yourself up over it, mistakes happen. Fingers crossed you receive all your items.

Also going to throw in that £200 is easily spent on 85 items, especially if buying washing liquid etc in bulk.

Also to everyone saying "can't believe you don't know the owners of your old house" don't assume everyone's a homeowner! I wouldn't have a clue of how to contact the girl who lived in my flat last year!

Rathersexyfortysomethingblonde · 02/06/2020 19:20

Does Tesco deliver at 11pm?
I mean really?
