Good gravy i thought the tide was turning on the dementoring on here but Jourdain's thread is full on! Not only covid but anti kids, anti anything they can fabricate out of her posts. The abject horror that a small child would parrot what an adult said is astounding! Have none of their kids repeated anything they have heard? How the feck did they learn to talk? Bet those same posters will be effing and jeffing all over other threads calling people all sorts but old bat is abhorrent!

Its bloody depressing. There is going to be such a shit society after this as people will be so used to judging others on the flimsiest excuse not knowing a thing about them and all the while thinking how superior they are for doing it. Makes me fear for my kids future. In fact my kids have more common sense, tolerance and empathy than half the posters on mn put together.
I am now sticking to the few threads i am on or i read regularly because they are balanced, sensible, supportive and also bloody good fun. Its reassuring to know there are people who havent gone stark raving mad out there.

Maybe i should tell them that when ds1 was a toddler my boss was round for a coffee after work. My 'innocent little boy' was playing with toys and they wouldn't do as he wanted. All i heard was "Fuck it" 😲conversation stopped...my boss was only just holding himself together and asked "Did he just say what i think he did"? I nodded and we both hastily exited outside so we could laugh like drains.🤣 Of course it could have been something else but it sounded like it! I didnt lock my ds up in a cupboard nor read him the riot act i ignored it and never heard him say it again till a teen. No big drama its what kids do.(Now its pretty much regular when gaming in his bedroom!)
All these sanctimonious parents with perfect kids are everywhere who knew having kids was so easy?

TeacupDrama · 31/05/2020 15:35

schools in France have been back 3 weeks now other countries similar it has been fine albeit with reduced class sizes

TheGreatWave · 31/05/2020 15:36

I think the media are making such a fuss of this so the shit show that will be Brexit can go along unnoticed.

At the start I thought "Poor Boris, he just thought he was going to have to do some Brexit willy waving this year, and, boom, covid-19" but actually now I think that he knows Brexit will be a disaster, so he has the perfect excuse when it all goes wrong, so if he keeps everything else in the media Brexit can rumble on unnoticed.

sonjadog · 31/05/2020 15:41

Which thread is this, Willow?

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 31/05/2020 15:44

Sorry for a bit of a swerve, but DH and I are thinking about a Swiss holiday next year with DD who is 8. If anyone has any good ideas please could you let me know (DM is fine so I don't derail the thread) but it'd be great to have something to look forward to! We're not skiers and so don't need to have facilities, but we love chocolate, cheese and outdoor swimming! Diolch/thank you!

Jourdain11 · 31/05/2020 15:47

@Willow2017 Thank you for your input on my thread! Gosh... I only started that because a. I wonder how you tell a child off for something they've clearly learned from adults and b. I was curious what the situation is with kids and supermarkets. DH says he has seen plenty, as usual, but we mainly shop in the smaller ones which are local so maybe it is different? He also says there has been little queuing.

Do these people even have kids? Do they know any kids? 3 kids holding onto the trolley at all times, seriously...

Anyway, I must go and sort out DD2's forms for Reform School. All three currently playing "shopping", which seems to involve shouting: "You touched that tin! Pigface!" at each other constantly. I am An Awful Parent Wink

Jourdain11 · 31/05/2020 15:50

@sonjadog it is on the Covid topic. DD, shopping, 2 meters... but I wouldn't bother to look if I were you!!

AnxiousElephant77 · 31/05/2020 15:54

I have a question. I hope I'm not overstepping. I've seen a lot of protests being reported in the media about George Floyd. None of the protestors are socially distancing as far as I can see. Yet there's countless threads about beaches and car parks and non shielded sand shopping and goodness knows what else. So is it just because it's a race issue that neither the media nor any of the dementors on here are mentioning it? Seems very odd to me.

Please note, I am not in any way shape or form saying anything about the protestors and what they are standing for.

AnxiousElephant77 · 31/05/2020 15:55

And, not sand.

2ndtimearound2020 · 31/05/2020 15:58

Why are some people screaming murder and the government are going to slaughter them all - use as guines pigs ...JUST BECAUSE an announcement was made that shielders can go out for a walk or meet socially distanced with someone else.....

Seriously, first they don't have to if they don't want to.

Secondly, the virus doesn't leap over 2m. or run up your leg if you leave the house.

I know people that are shielding or are careful but not ridiculous and also fit and healthy that are so scared they wonb't leave the house or work.... it is completely irrational.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 31/05/2020 16:04

@2ndtimearound2020 - don't be too sure. According to the BBC article on socialising whilst distancing "This virus is unpredictable and dangerous - significantly more dangerous than other viruses that circulate in the UK. We have to have quite a high level of paranoia about it". CV isn't like any there virus you've known before and lies in parks, bushes and beaches ready to ambush the unwary. Stay alert everyone. Stay very alert.

Willow2017 · 31/05/2020 16:05

No prob.
Working in supermarkets i have seen all sorts of behaviour from adults that would put you off people for life. All this rose tinted glasses view of Stepford wives style supermarkets is laughable. There is No actual 2m SD in a supermarket unless its an outside queue or till queue, its just not possible. The idea that everyone waits patiently for others to move forwards when they want past to get to something further up the aisle is ridiculous. People would be queueing back to the door!

You touched that tin! Pigface!" at each other constantly. I am An Awful Parent
🤣🤣🤣🤣
You surely are😉
Just dont go back on that thread its sheer madness.

MagdaS · 31/05/2020 16:14

This is interesting and also says no second wave is imminent. And that Germany’s lower fatality rate is not due to better lockdown. Personally I think the UK fatality rate is so high because at a population level we are very unhealthy.

2ndtimearound2020 · 31/05/2020 16:16

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy....

for a moment I thought you were being serious... it's hard to work out now since so many people will say the most ridiculous things and be perfectly serious and believe it...

I will watch out for the ambush when I do my socially distanced walk and be sure to completely disinfect by clothing/body in my special chamber prior to wntering my shielding capsule

Littlebelina · 31/05/2020 16:20

On taking small people into shops, does anyone know what matalan's policy is? My kids unfortunately keep growing so may have to make a trip if can't find stuff online. Our local matalan is open as it sells homeware and I could swing past with ds on our daily walk. He'll hate me for it either way but prefer not to get shouted out as well.

AnxiousElephant77 · 31/05/2020 16:23

Ignore my post, they've just mentioned it on Sky News.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 31/05/2020 16:26

@2ndtimearound2020 - glad to hear it, but you'd be better to fully isolate for at least 3 weeks despite disinfection. This disease is sneaky and the general public are filthy. Stay alert!

Ps. It did make me laugh that you took me seriously for a second. Can't even out dementor the dementors!

Littlebelina · 31/05/2020 16:26

Also, have people seen the teepee a school in Suffolk have built to host outdoor lessons? It's on the bbc live feed. I'm in the love it camp (appreciate others might not) as it's a practical solution to the issue (if short term) to getting kids back to school. Plus I imagine the kids will love it. Can't we have more schools like that rather than the tape up the books parade.

Shodan · 31/05/2020 16:29

@ilovecardigans Dammit, I could've done with that tip a couple of hours ago Grin I do actually have an actual dandelion weeding tool, which is quite good, but has a tendency to throw earth everywhere (like down my cleavage and into my hair).

@Jourdain11 I just went back onto your thread and O.M.G, as the kids used to say Grin Some people are bonkers.

@Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy Are you absolutely wedded to the idea of Switzerland? Only I took ds1 to Austria a couple of years ago (Zell Am See) and it was fabulous. It was in the summer, there's a lido on the lake you can swim at, and there's Gluhwein available if you go on the trip to the Eagle's nest (or hot chocolate if that's your preference) Maybe not so good for chocolate but if pastries are your thing...

BakewellTarts · 31/05/2020 16:31

Actually DD2s school have put up all of the school gazebos and I think are planning outside lessons as much as possible. Fantastic! At least as an interim solution for the summer term until the world (hopefully) goes back to normal. Also am pretty sure thay haven't been taping up books. They are being pretty sensible.

Shodan · 31/05/2020 16:31

CV isn't like any there virus you've known before and lies in parks, bushes and beaches ready to ambush the unwary. Stay alert everyone. Stay very alert.

It's ok. I am a black belt in karate and will use my fists of fury and feet of certain death to beat off any ambushing viruses.

Littlebelina · 31/05/2020 16:31

Although there is a slight dementorish vibe at the beginning as they've gone for social distancing the year 1s with 7 per class and hiding the lego

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 31/05/2020 16:37

@Shodan - DH agrees we could do Austria. DD would enjoy that! We're enjoying dreaming at the moment, but as the thread is about going on holidays it's not too much of a derail! Just googled Zell am See, looks gorgeous. Thank you!

2ndtimearound2020 · 31/05/2020 16:38

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy

The trouble is that you stood out as too rational to be a dementor.... you need to try harder ..... youu didn't use the M word at all (a give away if you don't accuse everyone of murder at least once a day... the beaches are full of murderers, the shops are full of killers, the idiot looked at me and wasn't wearing a mask and since 1.9m distance should be lynched for attempted murder... - you get the idea?)

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 31/05/2020 16:39

@Shodan - you remind me of that Pink Panther movie where the detective used to get ambushed regularly. That's CV in a nutshell!
