@Dowser fingers crossed. More for son's client than son, I imagine he will be fit as a butcher's dog.
Keep us posted hope all works out x

longestlurkerever · 30/05/2020 18:32

Hope he's ok Dowser. I think we have all had the virus. Symptoms were very different for us all. None of us seriously ill.

Winederlust · 30/05/2020 18:36

@Jaxhog

And you can't spread Corona unless you've got it. And everyone is eligible for a test now.. and the track and trace is up and running.

Yes, you can - anyone can spread it. Yes, you're right, but only people with symptoms are going to think to get tested. And no it isn't - and it's only useful if enough people actually download it - which they haven't.

So while it's great that many people can now meet up, please don't forget that some us still can't. We will still be at risk if you don't continue to follow the distancing and hand washing rules.

How can you spread something you haven't got yourself? Confused

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito

I have never made a decent potato salad. Anyone who's mastered the dark art and wants to share a recipe, feel free.
Spring onions, gherkins and creme fraiche 👌
ilovecardigans · 30/05/2020 18:51

@Dowser - hoping for a good outcome for your son and his client. 🤞

Nice thing from today - husband was out on his rounds this avo and delivered a clearly eagerly awaited paddling pool to a family with two small children. He said they were squealing with delight and it was very sweet.

Not so nice thing from today - passed a couple of neighbours whilst out on my walk. Breezily passed on the excellent news that there were no new Covid-19 cases in our county yesterday (thanks @NUFC69). 'Ah but just wait until the holiday parks open' was their response. Dear neighbours - here are my cornflakes, please feel free to piss on them...

They'll be chuffed to bits - 4 new cases today. 0.00126% of the population. Run, run for your liiiiiiiives!!! Hmm

That's always my argument when people go on and on about packed beaches etc. I always say "you are basing your hysteria on those people on the beach having covid given the chances of meeting someone with it in the community are less than 1 in 400, there maybe a risk but I doubt it's as high as you think, after all you CANNOT catch it from someone who doesn't have it".
Drives me batshit.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/05/2020 18:52

Fingers crossed for your son and his client @Dowser

Cattermole · 30/05/2020 18:56

On the matter of potato salad - cheat. A couple of dollops of sour cream and chive dip, mayo, and jersey new royals....

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 30/05/2020 19:03

My friend is a doctor who is paranoid about bringing it home on his clothes. They have had the virus but take steps to make sure they change/shower etc so maybe that’s where the thought that you can pass it in without having it comes from. The difference is they work on the COVID ward so would have a lot of exposure. Very different to a trip to the beach

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 30/05/2020 19:04

If you’d all like a WI style competition for potato salad I’m happy to volunteer my services as a judge. I’m nice like that!

I think Cattermole might win tip of the day. I do like a cheat recipe.

amicissimma · 30/05/2020 19:12

I can't keep up with these threads, but I was intrigued by the link to the BBC article that Orangeblossom78 linked to in the last thread:
James Gallagher, Health and science correspondent, informs us "If you go early [leave lockdown] then we all get a bit of our lives back sooner, but it means we will stay close to that 8,000 cases a day figure"

How can we 'stay close' to 8000 cases a day? We haven't had over four thousand since the 8th of May, according to the ONS and my records for most of April (although some are illegible!) mainly bob around the 4-500s per day.

Janaih · 30/05/2020 19:13

Gherkins do take potato salad to the next level. If you like them. Ditto hardboiled eggs.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/05/2020 19:21

@amicissimma I think that figure came from the briefing the other day following random sampling and something else I forget they estimate that there could be about 8k cases a day. However everyone misses the small print that says a confidence interval of 95% that is somewhere between 4k and (actually I forget the upper figure but around 8-9k)

The thing that fucks me off is everyone reckoning there is about 12k cases a day as that's how many people are reporting symptoms on an app. Symptoms don't always mean you have covid. Ffs.

Weedsnseeds1 · 30/05/2020 19:35

Just occurred to me I have the ultimate social distancing marker in my kitchen floor!
"Stand on that and THINK about all the grannies you are killing"
I'm so used to it being there that I forget it exists. Does give visitors a bit of a start, the first time they see it though!

pollyhemlock · 30/05/2020 19:38

I just don’t understand the way they do these figures. BBC website says 2,445 cases recorded today, but ONS say over 8,000 in England alone. Where are they getting this figure from ?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/05/2020 19:41

@pollyhemlock the ONS isnt confirmed cases. It's an extrapolation from random sampling.
"The results are based on blood samples taken from 885 people from private households after 26 April."

Bollss · 30/05/2020 19:44

@Weedsnseeds1 is that a grave? In your floor?!

Weedsnseeds1 · 30/05/2020 19:46

It's a gravestone. I don't think there are any bodies under it. Probably.

BakewellTarts · 30/05/2020 19:49

@Weedsnseeds1 thats so cool! I want one!

Bollss · 30/05/2020 19:50

Wow! That's a nice bit of history isn't it!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 30/05/2020 19:51

Weeds wins everything ever. So jealous of your gravestone floor!

Weedsnseeds1 · 30/05/2020 19:53

Grin it came with the house, I can't claim the interior design credit.

Bollss · 30/05/2020 19:55

How old is your house?!?

Weedsnseeds1 · 30/05/2020 19:59

1700s Genie. The kitchen is a more recent extension, about 100 years old, the gravestone is dated from 1809 - 1834 as it details the deaths of various wives, children etc as well as the husband
