Well, I have been danger buffooning all day! Went for a family cycle ride along the promenade and stopped for a takeaway coffee, then one of DS school friends mum (shes also my friend), posted on Facebook that her DS is a bit lonely as hes not played with another child in almost 10 weeks(we are dementor central here) so I messaged her and us and our kids have just enjoyed a fabulous few hours in the garden. Kids playing the way kids play.
Honestly it made me so happy.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/05/2020 16:26

And we are having a chinese delivered tonight, so I am basically a serial killer.

bibbitybobbitycats · 30/05/2020 16:31

@Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy

My favourite dementoring is wales’ first minister telling us that allowing us to have people in the garden was not an excuse to drink beer in case we all forgot ourselves. Reminded me I needed to stick some bottles in the fridge. I’ll be back to report if an orgy ensues!
Wine and gin are OK though?!

I think Wales is being quite sensible tbh, and to be fair Drakeford didn't exactly say we couldn't sit in the garden and have beer, he just said we should continue be careful.

"People should still be sensible about it. Do it only when it's necessary, stay apart from one another. Running through people's houses, sitting in gardens close together, having a beer and it all breaking down - that is definitely not what we are proposing in Wales."

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 30/05/2020 17:03

I also worry that those in the shielding group won't ever want to emerge into the world again. I have a family friend in that group who hasn't seen anyone outside her household since lockdown

I saw someone who is shielding just today post that her physical health is declining for having been indoors for so long. It is incredibly unhealthy to do that - every time I've been in hospital in my life (which is a fair bit), I've been told, get up and out on walks as soon as you can. Get moving, get fresh air because outcomes are better if you do that by a long way. It is seriously bad for anyone to sit indoors and not move about. I do understand it must be scary to venture out again but I am betting many with chronic conditions are risking declining quite dramatically for not going out. If the virus doesn't get you, sitting far more might well do. All those patients with declining mobility and increased cardiac and mental health problems - it'll cost the NHS a fortune to sort out.

SomewhereEast · 30/05/2020 17:04

I'm a bit cynical about the BBC dementoring. The government understandably wants people to download the contact tracing app, so the Beeb will push the "Covid hasn't gone away you know" line heavily as it rolls out.

Mascotte · 30/05/2020 17:09

I could not deal with the pressure of being the only customer in a shop!

GoldenOmber · 30/05/2020 17:13

I think all the talk about a second wave is going to end up backfiring on the people worrying about it. "Be careful because we can't rule out a second wave", yeah fine. "Take cover because a second wave is definitely coming now" - well in that case why should I bother sticking to the rules, if it's going to happen no matter what we do?

(and before anyone jumps on me for Flouting Lockdown, I am sticking to the rules, but I don't think another wave is inevitable. If I thought it was going to happen no matter what I did then I'd be heading off on a Going To Hug All My Family Around The Country tour right now.)

To be honest I’m starting to feel a bit tin foil hat about the level of BBC dementing. I feel like they’ve been told by the government to accentuate the negative, all those reports from that London hospital last week were just so “look at how bad things can get, look at it! This will be you and your loved ones if you don’t OBEY!”
BlackberryViolet · 30/05/2020 17:21

I think I’ve earned the title dangerous buffoon today. A walk around Durham, Starbucks take out, then arranged a burger collection from one of the 2 places open, sat on palace green to eat it and now we are sitting in the shade by the river under the cathedral watching the birds. Must have bumped off half a small city. Started musing to dh how many epidemics the cathedral has seen and what the people who lived through various plagues would have thought about a closed cathedral. He now thinks I’ve lost the plot and, tbh, he wouldn’t be far wrong at the moment. Although dd1 seems much better. She’s missed Starbucks. Her mental health can be fragile and I don’t want her to go backwards to where she was 2 years ago

Trying to persuade dh that we need to go to a specialist nursery tomorrow for a browse so hopefully another day of being a dangerous buffoon tomorrow Grin

Drivingdownthe101 · 30/05/2020 17:30

Do it only when it's necessary

I’m not sure about that bit to be honest. It’s not ‘necessary’ to see my mum in our garden, but it is certainly very nice. We’re being sensible and careful, but no it’s not necessary.

OP posts:
Drivingdownthe101 · 30/05/2020 17:32

What I mean is I don’t think we should only be seeing family when strictly necessary. We should be seeing them because it’s nice, and it’s normal, and because humans need social interaction.

Well I don't know how many people I've murdered today, but I suspect it's a lot.

I went to see my friend, she's a primary school teacher, complete non-dementor, in her garden. Not only did I have to walk through her house to get to the garden, I also used her toilet twice. I did clean it down with wipes both times.

It was amazing. Best I've felt in weeks. It's my birthday on Monday and I'm supposed to be getting married in December, and you know what, I've just about had enough.

Today has been a good day.

ShoeJunkie · 30/05/2020 17:37

Checking in after a lovely afternoon on buffoonery at not one but two garden centres. On the whole a pleasant change of scenery!

ravensoaponarope · 30/05/2020 17:42

So jealous. Sitting looking at the castle (my old college) and thinking that whatever shit I've been dealing with at that time, those stones had stood through a hell of a lot more and it was just a wet Wednesday in January for those buildings used to be my perspective-getter when I was a student. So no you haven't lost the plot - I used to think that kinda stuff all the time when I lived around there!

Sadly not much ability to do that here - but someone down the road obviously had family visiting in the garden today and the kids were laughing and shouting (and weren't voices I recognise so must have been visiting) and I was just thinking "good on you"

BBC is definitely trying to conduct the orchestra of public opinion now in an utterly shameless manner. Sad thing is it's working - hell even I've had a wobble about the kids going back to school - was brief when I heard how DD2 is struggling to speak clearly and went back to sanity again!

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 30/05/2020 17:51

@bibbitybobbitycats I’m not sure where you live, but from here in Wales I resent the patronising tone from the Welsh Government. The unions are dictating to us all so we have no idea when our children might return. It is still illegal for us to meet with friends and family. It will change on Monday but we’re under far more restrictions than England in lots of ways with all the associated risks. We have a government who is more interested in playing politics and getting likes on Twitter.

Sensible would be proper protection and testing in health and care settings, using the teams of volunteers to help people who need to shield and having a brave roadmap out of lockdown with weekly easing where possible. We’re a small country and could be leading the way out of this.

CruCru · 30/05/2020 17:58

Christ, I’ve just read that BBC article.

You know the one 😉

TheGreatWave · 30/05/2020 18:24

Luckily there's another one in the other direction that lets you wander around freely, doesn't count little kids in the two people per household rule, and just asks that you give people space.

I just pranced straight into ours with DH and dd2. Does mean I actually need to do some work in the garden tomorrow. And I feel good for giving them some money.

Dowser · 30/05/2020 18:25

Well folks we have a situation. Going to keep this brief.
My son has been in touch, one of his clients has tested positive.
He’s waiting for a test .
Hopefully all will be well.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 30/05/2020 18:27

Can you imagine going into someone’s garden and being allocated a square? Also laughing that overweight older men should bring their own cutlery

longestlurkerever · 30/05/2020 18:29

I've been a dangerous buffoon too. Went to Poundland and bought a heap of unnecessary gubbins for dd2's socially distant party. Bought takeaway Caribbean food and ate it in the park and have been packing party bags for said socially distant party. Have invited kids to stop by and play on scooters etc in the street outside in a staggered fashion. I will provide ice cream, masks to colour and chalks to decorate the pavement. I hope some people come. Feel much better for doing some fun things. Also attempted to attend virtual hay on Wye festival but kids just shouted over it.

AnotherEmma · 30/05/2020 18:30

@Dowser
Sorry about your son's client. Does your son have any health conditions? (Sorry if you've told us before on this thread or an earlier one.)
