If you could live in a different country for 3-6 months where would you choose?

With all the time to ponder lately, I've been thinking how lovely it would be to live in a different country for up to 6 months. Long enough to soak it up but short enough to not be away from home for long.

If only work, school, finances, etc would allow - sigh Wink

So, just for fun, where would you choose to go? Grin

Italy, Verona or Rome. Fab food and music!

Japan, specifically Tokyo. I've never been but I feel a strong pull there for some reason, it's weird.

Italy for me too.

BoogleMcGroogle · 29/05/2020 15:46

Lots of places. If only 3 months maybe somewhere really different like Senegal, Samoa or Argentina. If a bit longer then France ( I am the world's biggest Francophile) or back to Southern Africa (Botswana or Namibia).

America, but only if I had good health insurance. I'd like to travel slowly across the southern states from florida to california.

Venice - I could definitely live there for six months but not in the summer when it's overrun by tourists. A palazzo overlooking one of the canals would be perfect.

Canada, Australia and New Zealand. I have passable French and no other languages. Not a natural linguist and I would really want to immerse myself in the county and don’t think I could do that with a language barrier in 3-6 months.

It’s one of the things I wish I had done between uni and work - lived abroad for a year of two; however, my parents are very conservative and prudent and it was very much, “you need to get a job straightaway”.

My DH lived in various countries as a child and hated moving round so no chance now.

geojojo · 29/05/2020 16:03

Ooh so hard to choose. I lived in Italy for a year and loved it but would probably choose Japan or Australia (very different I know!)

emmetgirl · 29/05/2020 16:03

Italy definitely

elp30 · 29/05/2020 16:04

I fantasize about being a lottery winner and spending three to six months in a different location, all the time.

Italy
Australia
Japan
Mexico
Brazil

Maybe one day I'll actually buy a lottery ticket and make it happen.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/05/2020 16:04

Would I have a proper set up over there? So a home to live in, car or transport etc? If it's all primed and ready for me....

Hmmm...

Japan.

TokyoSushi · 29/05/2020 16:06

Iceland, in the winter, or somewhere like Norway/Finland, I'm fascinated by it!

RedKite1 · 29/05/2020 16:06

Cowboy country, not absolutely sure where that is Montana, Wyoming? I would ride horses, eat simple food, same stuff every day is fine with me, give up my fancy white wine habit, be viewed as slim and sophisticated with my English accent. I have done no research into this obvs.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/05/2020 16:08

Nicaragua.

I could drink rum and chill for a few months.
