If you could live in a different country for 3-6 months where would you choose?

With all the time to ponder lately, I've been thinking how lovely it would be to live in a different country for up to 6 months. Long enough to soak it up but short enough to not be away from home for long.

If only work, school, finances, etc would allow - sigh Wink

So, just for fun, where would you choose to go? Grin

I’m not sure if any of you were on the “view from my window” fb page. What an eye opener into interesting places.

@fallfallfall

I totally love that "View From My Window" page!
I enjoy seeing it every day :)

Iceland - there are lots of wooden huts scattered over the countryside.
I want to go somewhere quiet.

Sittingontheveranda · 29/05/2020 16:15

Australia. Or Spain. (not the tourist developments though)

SconNotScone · 29/05/2020 16:25

New Zealand or Canada. Similar to a pp, i don’t have any language skills beyond English! And don’t feel I could immerse myself into a country fully without being able to speak the language. I have travelled around New Zealand fairly extensively (twice) and always said that if it was closer, I would love to live there. We said the same after visiting Toronto and the surrounding areas a few years back!

AcrossthePond55 · 29/05/2020 16:32

UK, Canada, OZ.

I've often mused that if I were single I could probably do it. I'm retired with a good stable income. I'd have to sell the house though as I wouldn't have enough for 2 housing payments.

I could never get DH to agree to it though.

tillytoodles1 · 29/05/2020 16:44

Turkey, I love it there.

Crunchymum · 29/05/2020 17:02

One of the Greek Islands. Maybe Kefalonia.

Would be perfect way to also do some island hopping.

I assume I'm leaving the 3 kids and the cat at home Grin

New Zealand. We travelled round New Zealand on our honeymoon and almost emigrated afterwards (I would have got a visa based on my job). We then bought a house in England and had DC instead, and I always said I wouldn't take the DC away from their grandparents (DH's parents would not be well enough to travel though my parents would love to). If we could have a set-up with a decent house, schools for DC, jobs for DH and I out there and to come back to in the UK, I would go for 6 months to a year. The drawback would be spending so long on a plane with DC.

SunshineDays2019 · 29/05/2020 17:13

US, specifically New England

DulciUke · 29/05/2020 19:47

I live in the U.S. so I would pick....the U.K.!

AdoptedBumpkin · 29/05/2020 20:07

I'd quite like to try Portugal. Nice climate, friendly natives, lots of coastline.

1066vegan · 29/05/2020 20:24

Costa Rica

Gorgeous scenery, much of it protected. Peaceful (no army, not too much crime). Democracy.

We daydream about moving there if we win the lottery and can afford to retire.

FarquarKumquatsmama · 29/05/2020 20:26

I’d say Argentina, the Philippines or Indonesia. Possibly the Congo as I recently listened to a great podcast about it. Or Mozambique if I could dive every day.

Kazzyhoward · 29/05/2020 20:28

Cyprus, Autumn or Spring, definitely not Summer. People are ultra friendly, lots to do, lovely climate outside the Summer months.

lazylinguist · 29/05/2020 20:30

New Zealand or somewhere in Scandinavia. Nowhere too hot if I were going to be there over the summer!

RagamuffinCat · 29/05/2020 20:31

Norway for me, I love it there.

MayFayre · 29/05/2020 20:32

Boston or Sydney

PhoneLock · 29/05/2020 20:34

Australia. I wouldn't need to think twice.

Duvetdweller · 29/05/2020 20:34

Denmark - fell in love with Copenhagen when we visited last year and it just seems so SENSIBLE. I love sensible.

FraughtwithGin · 29/05/2020 20:35

Sri Lanka

ParkheadParadise · 29/05/2020 20:35

We have a holiday home in Cyprus.
We used to go March till June every year.
Dd2's surprise arrival put a stop to that. Last year we went for a month we were due to go in April this year.
Dh would love to live there full time but I'm not keen.

SporadicNamechange · 29/05/2020 20:39

Reykjavik, Helsinki or Seoul I think. I’ll do 3-6 months in each.

ToothFairyNemesis · 29/05/2020 20:40

New Zealand very little Covid19 threat and beautiful country.

Rhapsodyinpurple · 29/05/2020 20:41

Italy, Iceland, Denmark, New Zealand, Germany or Australia. Quite a mixed bunch.
