If you could live in a different country for 3-6 months where would you choose?

With all the time to ponder lately, I've been thinking how lovely it would be to live in a different country for up to 6 months. Long enough to soak it up but short enough to not be away from home for long.

If only work, school, finances, etc would allow - sigh Wink

So, just for fun, where would you choose to go? Grin

We have a holiday home in Cyprus.

Cyprus would be y second choice. Smile

Greece. Cannot possibly decide where specifically but definitely Greece. I would happily live on tzatziki, souvlaki and tiropita for 6 months.

Ooh I lived in Tokyo for 2 years 20 odd years ago and would love to go back for a bit.

Other than that, Oman or Jordan, please.

Another saying BhutanSmile.

Sri Lanka, it’s amazing. My favourite place in the world. Alternatively, I’d also like to live in McLeod Ganj in India (where the Dalai Lama lives) only because I’ve always said one day I’d like to come back there for 3-6 months. Dh and I used to live in India (near Mumbai) and I don’t know if I’d generally live in India again (the rest of India, I mean). But I’ve always had a bit of a special place for McLeod Ganj. Though it’s a ballache to get there!

Destroyedpeople · 29/05/2020 21:22

Greece or Italy or both....

monkeyonthetable · 29/05/2020 23:04

@mindutopia - I'd love to live in Sri Lanka for a few months too. Was trying to decide between it and India in my previous reply.

Peru

Canada, specifically Montreal. I've never been but my best friend says it's a beautiful city and I like the idea of speaking and hearing French while in North America.

Ratbum · 29/05/2020 23:29

USA, North Carolina. A direct female ancestor left UK for America, survived shipwreck and married a plantation owner there in 1770's. I can't help wondering what NC is like. Three months would be great!

TSSDNCOP · 30/05/2020 04:50

Do I have to work? I lived in Connecticut for 3 months once and whilst it was fun, after a while you're just going to work in a slightly different place. It's odd.

If no work, South of France, New Zealand or a Thailand/Vietnam/Cambodia trip.

TSSDNCOP · 30/05/2020 04:51

Also I would like to have a boat and island hop the Caribbean. Obviously would need to be able to sail, but how hard can that be Wink

bonsaidragon · 30/05/2020 04:54

New Zealand or Canada with my family.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 30/05/2020 05:21

Already live in Australia, so Italy or Greece for me.

fairydustandpixies · 30/05/2020 06:14

Iceland

Ploughingthrough · 30/05/2020 06:23

Greece. I love it so much I would happily spend 3-6 months eating Greek food and enjoying their weather and beaches.

JorisBonson · 30/05/2020 06:33

Tokyo 100% went around Japan last year and this was just a mind-blowing place.

Also chuck San Francisco and Paris into the mix

redeyetonowheregood · 30/05/2020 06:36

Somewhere Spanish speaking so that I could learn to speak it properly. I have always wanted to go to South America... Argentina, uraguay, Peru perhaps.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 30/05/2020 06:41

Scotland. That's my dream, to come home for half of the time.

FloraGreysteel · 30/05/2020 06:54

Svalbard! It's my spiritual home :-)

MyDogPatch · 30/05/2020 07:07

Scotland, in the Highlands, and have my Outlander fantasy. That, or just hunker down in a cottage somewhere and enjoy the peace and nature.

justanextrahalfhour · 30/05/2020 07:24

Italy, somewhere with easy access to the Cinque Terre.

FrenchFancie · 30/05/2020 07:26

I live in cyprus so for me right now it would be the uk - I miss everyone and there’s no realistic prospect of us travelling backwards and forwards easily. That being said, Cyprus is an awesome place and it could be worse.

In non odd times I would love to go to Japan - because the culture is very very different to the uk.
I’d also like to go to Norway and Sweden - from what I understand both places value a work / life balance. Don’t speak a bloody word of Finnish or Norwegian thoigh so that would make things difficult

Nononononono33 · 30/05/2020 07:32

Singapore. I love it there. Alternatively NZ.
