I'm absolutely fine but sometimes when things get a bit much I need to have a cry to let some sad feelings out. Has anyone got any ideas of (shortish) things I can watch to make me have a little weep ocassionally?

Trust Snailandthewhale and watch Shadowlands. I defy anyone to get through that film dry-eyed.

Step Mom
Artificial intelligence
Lion ( on Netflix atm)
That episode of call the midwife when the baby has no arms or legs and the mother says to it 'aww love what a mess...we'll sort summat' out' 😭😭

Hippofrog · 27/05/2020 16:35

Steel Magnolias 😢

Lsquiggles · 27/05/2020 16:43

The boy in the striped pyjamas Sad

I have a black cynical heart and very rarely cry about anything.

But, the scene at the end of The Railway Children always makes me cry.
I can actually feel myself welling up now...the innocent beauty of it just gets me every time.

@Octopus37

O, also Marley and Me, I remember watching it on a flight to New York and sobbing, but I don't even like dogs. This has changed, I am now a very happy dog owner, not cause of the film.
I was on a flight to Canada when I watched this and 15wks pregnant with HG I cried, proper ugly cried at this film Blush Never watched it since...

I’m sat racking my brains for recommendations OP but I a) can’t seem to think of any and b) seem to be crying at everything at the moment Blush

Ameanstreakamilewide · 27/05/2020 16:50

And I've just thought of another one.

The 'Baby Mine' bit in the Disney Dumbo. 😢

PlatinumBrunette · 27/05/2020 16:52

Hearty Paws - a Korean movie about a boy and his dog, a sobfest from the start. Didn’t finish watching it, DD and I were traumatised!

whoknowswhichwayisup · 27/05/2020 16:57

After life on Netflix. Makes me cry every episode

skinnyhotchoc · 27/05/2020 17:11

@Ameanstreakamilewide I thought it was just me that cries at that bit of Dumbo

CottonSock · 27/05/2020 17:15

Into the wild
Mary and martha

Ameanstreakamilewide · 27/05/2020 17:22

Oh skinny it's heartbreaking. I honestly can't think about it for too long, as i start getting choked up.

skinnyhotchoc · 27/05/2020 17:25

@Ameanstreakamilewide I teach media and one school had that clip on their scheme of work. I was there at the front with tears running down my face and the kids looking at me like I had two heads. Same thing with boy in the striped pyjamas. Kids don't bat an eyelid and I'm there blubbing

RenegadeMrs · 27/05/2020 17:27

The Snowman makes me cry and it's not very long. His friend melts!!!

If you are not quite as wet as I am, Grave of the Fireflys by Studio Ghibli. It's animated, but heartbreaking. It's also a film, so 89 mins long, but you don't need to watch that long before the heartbreak hits.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 27/05/2020 17:27

I'd have been a mess! Were the kids sympathetic?

Blankiefan · 27/05/2020 17:27

Wonder on Netflix. I called my eyes out on the plane back from holiday with DH. He was appalled. 🤣🤣🤣

Stuckforthefourthtime · 27/05/2020 17:30

Grave of the Fireflies. Hands down saddest movie I've ever watched.

skinnyhotchoc · 27/05/2020 17:42

@Ameanstreakamilewide nope! No hope with Dumbo when I've taught for 11 years and it continues to surprise me that every year nobody bats an eyelid when two naked, scared little boys get gassed (Boy in the Striped PJs), a young lad is shot for cowardice after trying to protect his platoon ( Private Peaceful), and a man has to shoot his simple best friend to save him from the hell of prison ( of Mice and Men).

Sodamncold · 27/05/2020 17:50

Blind side

HighdosevitaminD · 27/05/2020 17:56

The Awakenings with Robin Williams.
Agree with This is Us, beginning of Up, Coco and Moana.
Baby mine in the original Dumbo always makes me weep.
A scene in Carol where she is fighting for custody of her daughter totally broke me.

BearBearBearBear · 27/05/2020 18:03

If you like horses - Spirit, Stallion of the Cimmeron

Ameanstreakamilewide · 27/05/2020 18:07

@skinnyhotchoc Little bleeders! 😉

I might have to try The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas; you can't fail to be moved by a story like that.

Socksontheradiatoragain · 27/05/2020 18:09

I agree with 'Up'
Also the new film 1917

wellerhugs5 · 27/05/2020 18:18

Boy in the striped pyjamas - so, so sad.
Marley & Me ( my husband thought something awful had happened as I opened the door to him totally bawling my eyes out and couldn't speak)
Lion King (the original)

wellerhugs5 · 27/05/2020 18:20

@NorthernSoullover

Gawd, the beginning of Up gets me EVERY TIME
