Drag queen at wedding

I'm considering having a drag queen sing at my wedding. What would you think if you were at a wedding and a drag queen had been booked to perform? Obviously they'd tone it down a bit with swearing etc.

OP posts:

I'd think less of you and go and join the queue for the loo.

OhCaptain · 23/05/2020 23:17

I don’t have the problem other people do with drag but I’d think you were tacky as fuck.

And a bit try hard.

Sorry!

YgritteSnow · 23/05/2020 23:19

Who says presumptuousness is dead?

No one, no one has ever said this as far as I know, except you just now and making no sense whatsoever.

Most drag is just kind of...tedious. And samey

Samtsirch · 23/05/2020 23:21

@EinsteinaGogo
If it makes you feel better 👍🏼
😊

ExpletiveDelighted · 23/05/2020 23:22

I'd be heading for the door not the dance floor.

GigiLamour · 23/05/2020 23:24

Drag queens might be more of a hen night thing.

Deadringer · 23/05/2020 23:24

I don't get drag at all. Dressing up as a woman doesn't make a man a better singer, or any funnier imo. Some people seem to lap it up though.

Nearlyalmost50 · 23/05/2020 23:25

I wouldn't mind it but quite a few would. I wouldn't choose something contentious for a wedding, it seems to me drag is something people do or don't like and so those that do like it can go to drag clubs. Weddings aren't the right venue given it's a Marmite thing (and some people find drag really offensive).

QuestionableMouse · 23/05/2020 23:25

I would absolutely hate it and would probably leave.

Susanna85 · 23/05/2020 23:28

Completely depends on the wedding couple and the guests.

I personally would not be particularly keen to sit through a drag act but would smile & laugh along if I thought it was enjoyable for the couple.

I love to watch and dance to a live band though!

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/05/2020 23:30

Other less awful ideas...

Close up magician
Elvis impersonator
Pub quiz

I can think of a lot of things that are fun and unusual without parodying women.

MotherWol · 23/05/2020 23:30

It depends on the kind of guests you’re inviting- is it a mostly young crowd who are likely to enjoy Drag Race, or are your family more traditional? TBH it’d be a bit awkward if any of your guests started heckling, or a drunk uncle made inappropriate advances at the bar...

Davros · 23/05/2020 23:33

I had a brilliant band at my birthday party in January. Very entertaining and enjoyed by all ages. You'd have to be in or from London though. Let me know if you want info

Dreeple · 23/05/2020 23:33

I would think you’re an idiot.

You asked.

Chillipeanuts · 23/05/2020 23:34

Not my thing at all, but it’s your wedding.

Jane67996 · 23/05/2020 23:53

@nocoolnamesleft
Womanface! Love it. I always wonder why its deemed acceptable? I hate drag.

PickAChew · 23/05/2020 23:56

I'd probably go outside and use my phone for a bit.

DamnYankee · 23/05/2020 23:56

@wedding2021

If he's fabulous, it could be so much fun! Would depend on the act, though. Scantily clad Cher or Liza (Mein Herr!) maybe not. But tastefully costumed Cher or Liza DQ would be a welcome relief.
(Even if upper middle class wedding Hmm. In US, so very different).
People are going to appreciate live actors so much more now.

Samcro · 24/05/2020 00:00

There is one in my town that is brilliant, seen them in pantomime and they were really good. So would just enjoy it.
Got to be better than a crap band.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/05/2020 00:01

"Drag queen" is publicised fetish to me. So no, I wouldn't appreciate one at a wedding.

DamnYankee · 24/05/2020 00:03

Judy Garland could be done tastefully, for sure.

Mucklowe · 24/05/2020 00:03

Sure. Hire a minstrel show while you're at it.

BurnIt · 24/05/2020 00:07

I HATE drag. Men pretending to be really bloody ugly women....

Don't get it..really wouldn't enjoy it. Hey but its not my wedding....

heartsonacake · 24/05/2020 00:08

Why? Why on earth would you want to ruin your wedding day like this?

I couldn’t think of anything worse.
