Drag queen at wedding

wedding2021 · 23/05/2020 22:18

I'm considering having a drag queen sing at my wedding. What would you think if you were at a wedding and a drag queen had been booked to perform? Obviously they'd tone it down a bit with swearing etc.

OP posts:
richele4 · 24/05/2020 01:25

Another no from me I'm afraid

Lynda07 · 24/05/2020 02:26

No!

I hate drag.

Why not just hire a singer? Why does the singer have to be a man dressed up as a woman?

MinecraftMother · 24/05/2020 03:16

Go singing waiters.

These days I see men parodying women by dragging up like blackface. It's offensive to me, in all honesty.

Have a wonderful day, OP x

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 24/05/2020 03:30

Drag act at a wedding ? Tacky.

canigooutyet · 24/05/2020 03:35

Only you know your guests.

Now you've mentioned it, if I ever go down the wedding route again, I will be doing that or something similar. Great way to get around the no kids awkwardness. Sounds better than the speeches, the first dance, the cheesy music.

Doesn't have to be one or the other either really. Do all the traditional stuff and from 7 pm, for example, it's whatever. Comedian, clowns, Drag Queens, dancers, etc.

canigooutyet · 24/05/2020 03:45

Or make it fair, hire a drag queen and king.

canigooutyet · 24/05/2020 03:50

unless you are a gay male couple and into drag queens then no

Sexuality and Drag aren't exclusive to each other.
The entertainment we enjoy isn't tied to our sexual preferences either.

I do applaud you for your honesty.

LesleysChestnutBob · 24/05/2020 05:27

If you think your own wedding is going to be boring I feel sorry for you.

Rockbird · 24/05/2020 05:45

Lily Savage? Go for it and can I come? Anyone else, no, not for me. But it's your wedding...

Nicolastuffedone · 24/05/2020 06:18

Well I’m one of the sourpusses who can’t stand drag......I’m sorry you’re going to find your wedding boring. I had a ball at mine!

Therebythedoor · 24/05/2020 06:51

I wonder why people bother with weddings if they find them 'boring'... Relying on the entertainment to add the excitement sounds rather like weddings have lost their way. Glad I got married in the olden days when 'favours' were a new thing in the UK and provider all the excitement needed.

I would be appalled to see blackface or womenface being done in public and a drag queen falls into the second category.

So offensive. It’s a no from me.

Iflyaway · 24/05/2020 06:55

I love drag queens. But at a wedding? They'll probably try to steal your thunder....

Depends on the wedding though of course.

borntobequiet · 24/05/2020 07:00

I’m waiting for the AIBU to be upset because the drag queen wore white at my wedding.

HuggyBuggy · 24/05/2020 07:06

Adding my voice to the "it's cringy, tacky, and weird" posters. Please don't do this OP.

crustycrab · 24/05/2020 07:13

No. I'd leave at that point.

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/05/2020 07:14

Omg are you insane? You’ll be upstaged by a bloke in woman face. Have some respect and love for yourself lady!

Graciebobcat · 24/05/2020 07:16

Disappointed. I thought the thread was going to be about a guest who unexpectedly arrived in makeup, wig, a short, fitted dress and killer heels, and upstaged the bride.

grumpyorange · 24/05/2020 07:19

Good god some of these pp are horrific. You're 'offended' get a bloody grip!!

OP you need to think about if there would be anyone at your wedding who would hold the absurd views like the ones above. If so you are better off not doing it. Could you do it for a hen do instead?

If the guests are normal, decent human beings, then go for it. Do you have a drag queen in mind? It may be worth asking her what kind of drag performances she does e.g sing live, mime, comedy etc to make sure you're getting what you want out of it.

It's your wedding. Have a lovely time and ignore the ignorant horrible PP

Lardlizard · 24/05/2020 07:23

I’d rather a live band, a steal band is lovely imo

MadamBatty · 24/05/2020 07:26

If a drag queen is a man who acknowledges that he is a man dressing as a woman who are posters referring to the drag queen as ‘She’.

If the drag queen is a she then the drag queen is not a drag queen?

I’m confused

grumpyorange · 24/05/2020 07:27

@MadamBatty you refer to them as a she when she is in drag... it's not difficult
