Drag queen at wedding

I'm considering having a drag queen sing at my wedding. What would you think if you were at a wedding and a drag queen had been booked to perform? Obviously they'd tone it down a bit with swearing etc.

OP posts:
Lordfrontpaw · 25/05/2020 19:39

And female comedians who do that (bitch and male dirty jokes) just don’t seem to be very popular...

JoeExoticsEyebrowRing · 25/05/2020 19:40

There are, sadly, perverts who infiltrate all walks of life. That's because perverts are nasty, nasty people.

Yes, exactly. And history has shown that they infiltrate places that they know they will be safe from scrutiny because no one can question it.

Adult men displaying their fetish with children present? No problem, it's at Pride, don't be such a bigot!

Adult man filming himself in his fetish gear in the toilets of his famous children's charity workplace? How dare you call for him to be sacked, you homophobes!

Adult male drag queen being photographed with kids crawling all over him during a 'story time' session? So what, its just a bit of fun Karen! Never mind that with the way safeguarding is now, that would never ever be allowed in any other similar sort of event.

Prepubescent 'drag kid' dancing on stage for money in the middle of the night in a gay nightclub? How dare you object, it's just hate #rainbow #lgbt #beyourself.

No one is saying that all drag queens, or all gay people, or all trans people are perverts out to get your children. Not at all. But some people have concerns about the way that some things are going and how certain people could take advantage of the current climate of 'acceptance without exception'. People should be allowed to question certain things without being accused of bigotry.

Oh what women don't take the utter piss out of blokes stereotypically as a whole?

Which era would you like to concentrate on?

No made-up back story. It's history. Next someone else we be along to say people created backstories for Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, Marie Curie, just a few of the women who were "different" in their time.

Black History Month and how Black Gay ex Slaves used to dress in drag to try and stop being persecuted as much as they still were. A group of men were arrested and charged with similar offences to brothels at the time. The men weren't congregating for sex, they just wanted to hang out as a group. IIRC, when they were arrested they were in a private building, just like they would always meet.

Well then I'm sure those men would be rolling in their graves at 'Malestia Child' and their ilk insulting lesbians and calling women 'fishy' during their stage shows then.

Lordfrontpaw · 25/05/2020 19:44

We should always be able to question without being silenced.

I worked somewhere where Kids Company was being fundraiser for and they were also out school charity.

It just didn’t ‘smell’ right to me - when I asked how the money was spent, who made the decisions, where the funding went... you would have thought I said my favourite hobby was drowning puppies.

Urm have you seen every single shopping centre at Christmas. A guy dressed up as Santa. Normally have no DBS check. Kids crawl over him and sit on his lap to pose for photos?

Lordfrontpaw · 25/05/2020 19:50

I haven’t sat on santa since 1974. Neither of us seemed to enjoy the experience. Kids shouldn’t be sitting on any stranger - a teacher can’t even put an arm around a crying child to comfort them!

FreeKitties · 25/05/2020 19:50

Oh what women don't take the utter piss out of blokes stereotypically as a whole?

Compare this with

Oh what white people don’t take the utter piss out of black stereotypes as a whole?

And that’s why women don’t like drag.

grumpyorange · 25/05/2020 19:51

@Lordfrontpaw unfortunately lots of parents don't feel the same way and force their children to do it. I resented my parents for it but it happens all the time. And you get a cute little gift to take away with you

JoeExoticsEyebrowRing · 25/05/2020 19:51

Huh? Santa is a notorious example of 'PC gorn mad' these days!

I have a picture of my kids with Father Christmas and you can barely see him in the background he is so far away! 😂

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 25/05/2020 19:51

I actually haven't seen a picture of this, but kids "crawling all over him", Sounds a bit hyperbole so I can't really comment as they could have been climbing all over him or they could have been sat on his knee like kids do at Christmas on Santa's knee?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 25/05/2020 19:52

Cross posted with someone else about Santa, just seen that post

Lordfrontpaw · 25/05/2020 19:53

I don’t think they let kids sit on Santa these days - definitely now since DS went (from 2004).

canigooutyet · 25/05/2020 19:53

What about men that work with children in early years and nursery etc?
Kids are jumping and crawling all over them, they don't seem to care who they jump and crawl over when playing.

So what is wrong with a man dressed in a costume having his photo taken, and the kids are jumping all over him?

Isn't that what children's party entertainer do? Dress up and often end up buried under a pile of over-excited kids?

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 25/05/2020 19:53

Some women don't like drag, some clearly do.

Lordfrontpaw · 25/05/2020 19:54

LemonadeAndDaisyChains - I’ve seen the photo - drag queen lying flat on their back, like a starfish with a couple of toddlers lying on them. So not just a perch on his knee.

grumpyorange · 25/05/2020 19:54

@Lordfrontpaw all my local ones did it last year. My DM tried to get my DS to sit on his knee. DS wasn't having any of it so I removed him from the situation.
Most of my Facebook friends who had kids posted pictures fairs of their kids on Santa's knee and hugging the elves

FreeKitties · 25/05/2020 19:55

EDIT TO PREVIOUS POST :

The suggestion that men dressing as women are simply women who are “different” in their time is absolutely ludicrous.

canigooutyet · 25/05/2020 19:57

Depends who you are and where Santa is.

Harrods apparently last year would only let children of wealthy families sit on his lap.

Lordfrontpaw · 25/05/2020 19:58

I’d definitely hug an elf. I’m surprised places allow Santa-sitting these days - I really thought they’d stopped all that (poor Santa’s knees, poor traumatised kids - they often didn’t want to do it ).

Lordfrontpaw · 25/05/2020 19:59

You never got to sit on Harrods Santa. It was only the very spendy people who got tickets last year. I think you had to spend £20k over the year on yoir Harrods card

grumpyorange · 25/05/2020 19:59

@JoeExoticsEyebrowRing Huh? Santa is a notorious example of 'PC gorn mad' these days!

I've always called him Santa. He was never known as anything else. At school it was always Santa as well and this was the time where Yorkies were not for women!!

canigooutyet · 25/05/2020 20:07

its been a long time since we did the Santa stuff.

Harrods used to let everyone sit on Santa's lap. Didn't have to buy a thing either. Refreshments whilst you wait. I cannot even remember if we had to pay for a photo haha.

Talking about dressing up.

Did anyone start thinking about Halloween yet?

SarahAndQuack · 25/05/2020 20:07

People should be allowed to question certain things without being accused of bigotry.

No one is saying anything different, though?

People are pointing out that there's a huge, homophobic leap of logic between 'drag queen: good wedding entertainment?' and 'OMG PRIDE IS FOR PAEDOS!'

Exactly!
