Does anyone have any netflix hidden gems?

I've seen all the usual ones that everyone knows about but I am out of stuff to watch and Netflix only puts stuff that it thinks you will like. So I get a merry-go-round of the same stuff each time.

Does anyone have anything that they think is brilliant but no one else seems to know about?

Workin moms is hilarious. I also started watching A film ‘the wrong missy’ last night and thought hilarious too!

Selling Sunset. The houses! The outfits! The bitchiness! It’s brilliant for a binge watch.

RedRec · 23/05/2020 23:38

The English Game.

Kim’s Convenience. Family drama set in Toronto about a Korean grocery store. It’s lovely, gentle viewing

Another vote for Caliphate - having just binge watched 4 episodes

IllustriousToad · 23/05/2020 23:51

The OA
Orphan Black
Money heist

@CupcakeEater, it's brilliant isn't it?

DH watched it donkeys ago but we are always looking for stuff to watch with our adult teen sons, Since they were high school age we've always watched a series with them, an episode a night, just I guess to stay connected and get them out their rooms for a bit. We are starting to find it difficult to find the right thing to watch, something that they'll be interested enough in and that we'll all enjoy. Godless was one of the ones that DH came up with and we all enjoyed it though obviously the boys weren't brought up with cowboy movies on tv their entire childhood like DH and I.

We are currently watching The Office, though DH and I have seen it many times before.

Other things we've watched are Narcos, Ozark, Bordertown (but not that impressed), Fargo and House of Cards as mentioned above and loads I can't remember.

Currently part way through 'Inhuman resources' French drama (watch subtitled not dubbed) very dark.

Ninkanink · 24/05/2020 11:37

Inhuman Resources was great. We just finished it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/05/2020 11:37

Just wanted to say for those that don't like dubbing, you can switch the program to the original language and add subtitles in English. It's been a life changer here as I can't stand dubbing either.

DippyAvocado · 24/05/2020 11:42

Another vote for Dark. The dubbed version came up automatically but as PP says you can switch ot the original language and add English subtitles.

Ninkanink · 24/05/2020 11:43

Yes, Dark was good too. We always watch with subtitles.

EvenPhilip · 24/05/2020 11:45

Yes we always watch in original language with English subtitles, dubbing drives me crackers.
Ninanink, I was impressed by Eric Cantona, never seen him in anything before.

MobLife · 24/05/2020 11:45

Ooooh yes the Platform is great-again I would say drop the dubbing and have subtitles instead

longwayoff · 24/05/2020 11:49

Call My Agent. French with subtitles. Stuffed with famous French stars. It's funny.

TanteRose · 24/05/2020 12:02

Film - Calibre (really good thriller set in Scotland)

Series - Rita (set in a Danish school)

Also Dead To Me is good, as is After Life

Cluckadoodledoo75 · 24/05/2020 12:04

P/marking

maddiemookins16mum · 24/05/2020 12:23

We watched Ladies in Black last night, really nice film. When you realise who the Store Manager is played by, you’ll feel really old.

RobuxBriberyIsMyLifeNow · 24/05/2020 20:30

El hoyo - with subtitles

FeelingTheBurn · 24/05/2020 20:30

Also the African Doctor. French, but has subtitles in English if needed.
True story about a doctor from Africa who trains in France and gets a rural GP practice. He and his family face a lot of difficulties, but it's a heartwarming story.

RobuxBriberyIsMyLifeNow · 24/05/2020 20:31

Ah sorry it has been mentioned already Blush

Dirk Gently and Glitch have both been mentioned above and are really good.

The Alienist is excellent, about the hunt for for a serial killer set in late 19th century. I like crime dramas and history so this ticked both boxes for me. The second series is coming to Netflix in June so worth starting the first one now.

iwantavuvezela · 25/05/2020 08:56

@coffeeplease16 thank you for the recommendation for Quicksand - started it last night and hooked - really good
