@wishfulthinking1977 we have had 547 cases in a town with 141000 population. That's about 0.03% of the population, yet about a 98% dementor rate.
The dementor here is strong.

Mascotte · 22/05/2020 20:26

@Jourdain11 oh, that all sounds proper shit... sending very non murderous vibes

Willitneverend · 22/05/2020 20:26

The Dominic Cummings story has warmed the cockles of my dark little heart. This is all becoming increasingly stupid.

SomewhereEast · 22/05/2020 20:26

Anyway we went to the beach today (arse-end-of-nowhere beach only fairly local people really know about) and explored caves & flew kites & had a picnic and it was fucking awesome.

Interestingly my FB feed is rammed with parental going-to-the-beach pics and even the hardcore #stayathome brigade has succumbed. We are in a less densely populated area though so that might be part of it.

Mascotte · 22/05/2020 20:28

I was thinking about this today. I make big decisions for my job, used to analysing risk and stuff and being analytical and maybe a bit distant? So maybe that makes it easier for me, dunno.

heroku · 22/05/2020 20:28

That burger van story has really annoyed me. What utter twats your neighbours are to go and lecture that poor woman who's just trying to keep some money coming in. Well done for saying something.

I really worry that this coronavirus thing will exacerbate inter-generational animosity and class divisions. All the ranting about people sitting on the beach in Southend just reeks of the middle classes looking down their noses. Interesting how it's now perfectly acceptable to queue up for a flat white or a tray of geraniums but not for a hot dog or an ice cream. What a load of shit.

fartingsparkles · 22/05/2020 20:29

@Jourdain hugs for you xxx

BakewellTarts · 22/05/2020 20:31

@Jourdain11 Flowers cancer is a bastard. Unmumsnetyy hugs.

Bollss · 22/05/2020 20:33

God knows whats happened to me by rights I should be wailing about keeping my poor baby home and safe.

To be honest even though I grew up poor it's only ever pushed me to do better. My mum had me at 18 and we lived on a council estate and she got an NHS job and worked her way up and she's really high up and well paid now.

I had bought a house at 19 and then had ds at 20 (by choice) I'm 24 now and have a fancy job title but it's not very well paid. But then we live in West yorks where housing is cheap. Dp earns more than me but hasn't a GCSE to his name.

In summary neither of us are educated professionals but I'm happy to know I at least think like one Grin

Mascotte · 22/05/2020 20:36

@TrustTheGeneGenie it's funny, I'm ancient and an "educated professional" but think the same as you, you young thing 😃

Springersrock · 22/05/2020 20:36

Jourdain Flowers

I was supposed to be camping this weekend with some friends. I proper hate camping

Went to the co-op for vodka and chocolate and CBA to even decide what to do for dinner, let alone cook it so got a dominos delivery. Not sure what my body count is at today now.

heroku · 22/05/2020 20:36

@TrustTheGeneGenie good for you. I have a few "very well educated" friends and they are sounding like absolute idiots at the moment. As my nan used to say - you can't teach common sense.

And Flowers for you @Jourdain11. You are being so strong and stoic about all this, feel free to rant and rave to us if you need it - cancer is an utter bastard.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 22/05/2020 20:36

What's the Dominic Cummings story?

Mascotte · 22/05/2020 20:37

And despite all my advantages in life I'm mental cos of my horrible childhood, ant my child to be happy, so very upset. And a terrible homeschooler.

Bollss · 22/05/2020 20:37

@Mascotte after these last few weeks I don't feel young let me tell you!

Mascotte · 22/05/2020 20:38

I can imagine.. it's taking its toll!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 22/05/2020 20:38

I have a few "very well educated" friends and they are sounding like absolute idiots at the moment. As my nan used to say - you can't teach common sense.

Yes I have some of those too; sorry, I didn't want to imply rational thinking and risk assessment was exclusive to any group!

Bollss · 22/05/2020 20:38

I'm definitely a terrible homeschooler! And nursery drummed it into us to not reach our kids to read because schools do it a certain way and it can be confusing etc.. so I haven't. And now I'm worried the poor bugger will never read!

Springersrock · 22/05/2020 20:41

We’re a population of 141000, we’ve had 185 cases and 49 deaths - bearing in mind we’ve had a massive increase in testing lately as we’re trialling the app, the infection rate is going up fairly slowly

At the end of my first week back at work following 7 odd weeks of furlough, I can’t get my brain to work out the % but I don’t think it’s that bad to be honest

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/05/2020 20:42

TrustTheGeneGenie my first taught herself to read before she started school. Was fluent when she started (autumn born). Everyone told me she’d never grasp phonics as she had learned to read the ‘wrong’ way. Guess what? She grasped phonics.
DD2 (summer born) was absolutely not arsed about reading before school. She’s 5 in two months and can read just as well as DD1 could at the same age, she just learned differently.
They (practically) all learn to read, just in different ways! Don’t panic.

Springersrock · 22/05/2020 20:43

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito - he’s been busted breaking lockdown rules

Jourdain 🍹💐

Willitneverend · 22/05/2020 20:43

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito he broke lockdown and drove to Durham with coronavirus - www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/may/22/dominic-cummings-durham-trip-coronavirus-lockdown

BakewellTarts · 22/05/2020 20:44

@TrustTheGeneGenie sorry I think I must have come across as horribly snobbish. I generalised from my own experience which wasn't fair and you are right to call me on it. Common sense can't be taught and there are folks who can't think everywhere.

@heroku I am very worried about intergenerational conflict particularly when the young folk realise how screwed over they have been by the boomers over this.

Bollss · 22/05/2020 20:47

@BakewellTarts no no not at all! Don't worry I'm not at all offended! Smile you're right though common sense can't be taught!
