Strange Sandwiches

What is the most unusual or strangest thing you have had in a sandwich?
Did you like it ?

Mine was custard , cream , and fruit cocktail. I liked it . It was very refreshing and more than a trifle filling .Grin

I’m just going to put this in here before any other Northern Irish MNetters come along.

However, I put it in with the disclaimer that it is actually not weird in any way and is in fact a local delicacy.

Mars Bar & Apple

JessicaDay · 21/05/2020 12:46

Blue cheese, passionfruit, walnut and apple. It was lovely.

AnneKipanki · 22/05/2020 11:09

Is it @AvocaLove ?

'Trifle filling' 🤣😂

AdaColeman · 22/05/2020 11:17

My Mother used to make strawberry sandwiches when there was a real glut of them. 🍓 🍓 🍓 🍓 🍓

Elouera · 22/05/2020 11:21

In Iceland we had a heavy, rye type bread with dried fish on it! It was actually nice, although the fish was bone dry and very light.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 22/05/2020 11:24

White bread, good butter and a good packing of the crispy onions that come in a tub from asda- recent discovery but delicious!

AnneKipanki · 22/05/2020 11:24

My friend's mother used to like Jaffa cake and cheddar cheese sandwiches.
Not tried those , so I really can't comment.
Growing up , we used to have sugar on a sandwich, or a spread of tomato sauce.

I love cheese and jam. Ideally cheddar cheese and strawberry jam. Lush.

AnneKipanki · 22/05/2020 11:26

I thought the sugar and the tomato sauce were ok at the time. Not sure I would want to try them now .

My favourite combination is Old Amsterdam (very aged Dutch cheese) with fig jam. Yummy!

Also love goat cheese with honey.

Weedsnseeds1 · 22/05/2020 11:32

Thunder and lightening - black treacle with clotted cream. A local delicacy.

jonnybiscuits · 22/05/2020 11:33

In the Olden days of my infant years up north my nan used to put on a 'boofett' which consisted of a bowl of salted peanuts, a plate of party rings, a bowl of boiled eggs and a massive platter of pease pudding and pek ham stotties with the aspic dribbling out and some massive strips of gherkin

So, them. Horrible.

Londonlassy · 22/05/2020 11:34

Toasted banana and cheese. Absolute comfort food

MinteeFresh · 22/05/2020 11:36

We also have cheddar cheese and strawberry jam and really liked peanut butter and jam, although we are not American Grin

Shosha1 · 22/05/2020 11:38

When pg. Mars bars and pickle onions. Sliced. God I craved them

AnneKipanki · 22/05/2020 11:39

A stottie @jonnybiscuits ! Takes me back to Yorkshire!

Some of these combinations sound interesting @Londonlassy , @Weedsnseeds1 @Honeybee85 ,@beguilingeyes .

Cheese n Onion crisps
I grew up having this sandwich for my pack lunch at school for years, I still love it. My mum wrapped it up in the bread paper🤣🤣

AnneKipanki · 22/05/2020 11:45

I have Jaffa cakes. I have cheese. I know what I'm having for lunch! Thanks OP!

WhoWhatWheree · 22/05/2020 11:49

Bolognese (not with the spaghetti), lettuce and cheese. It was really good lol

TwentyViginti · 22/05/2020 12:03

I sometimes crave meat like Spam and luncheon meat - especially the 'chopped ham and pork' that has stuffing in the middle. On white sliced bread, with picalilli.....drool.....

OP it was common back in the day for people to have tinned fruit and cream with a side of bread and butter, so you've revived a trend!

TwentyViginti · 22/05/2020 12:05

Hot or cold mashed potato and spring onion sandwiches, with salad cream.

GrumpyHoonMain · 22/05/2020 12:06

I made a sandwich of two rich teas with butter in the middle. My strangest actual sandwich is two slices of bread with tomato puree hummous and cheese. Yum

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 22/05/2020 12:06

Galaxy caramel bar. But I didn't use bread. I used chips. So chip, galaxy caramel bar, chip. Orgasm in my mouth Grin
