What is the most unusual or strangest thing you have had in a sandwich?
Did you like it ?

Mine was custard , cream , and fruit cocktail. I liked it . It was very refreshing and more than a trifle filling .Grin

Just me that's only ever tried 'normal' sandwiches? Like ham and cheese 😂 I must be very boring. I do remember vividly eating sugar sandwiches around the age of 4 🤢

Careylisa · 23/05/2020 02:26

Peanut butter and cheddar cheese

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 23/05/2020 02:47

It was absolutely gorgeous as there are flavour / texture combination in each bit were always different.

Visually appealing too due to the colour combinations.

Used to have it back when I was a child, as a treat on a tray in front of the TV on Sunday afternoon to watch Supergran.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 23/05/2020 02:49

@putastraw. What type of sandwich spread to go with the pilchards

ClientQ · 23/05/2020 03:03

Meat and potato pasty on a buttered barm with brown sauce
Spoonful of (hot!) cottage pie in white buttered bread
Cheese, onion, mayo and ready salted crisps
Prawn mayo with ready salted crisps

I made apple, mustard and stuffing once when I was pissed. Quite tasty at the time. My nana used to make white bread, butter and bloater paste sandwiches for Sunday tea. Again, quite tasty at the time, couldn’t eat them now.

custardbear · 23/05/2020 03:49

My mum used to buy a bag of mini frozen pizzas and for a while as a teenager I'd cook one and have it on a sandwich with ketchup 😱 talk about carb overload!

Yearcat13 · 23/05/2020 03:57

In my youth I worked in a fish factory. Lunch was always, cheap white bread, butter monster munch and easy singles cheese. All complimented with the stench of fish. I loved those sandwiches.

Peridot1 · 23/05/2020 04:02

I feel a bit ill reading some of these! Some are just weird.

I like cheese, beetroot and salad cream in a sandwich.

Another one I like is a sandwich of cheese, spring onions and salad cream made with two slices of toast.

I’m pretty boring compared to some of you!

putastrawunderbaby · 23/05/2020 10:38

@NotanotherboxofFrogs Heinz sandwich spread - that salad cream kind of thing with bits in it

BikeRunSki · 23/05/2020 10:40

Weird sandwiches were my dad’s speciality - beetroot and Gorgonzola; sardine and banana; sliced raw potato sprinkled with vinegar, salt and sugar.

BikeRunSki · 23/05/2020 10:45

I hace probably completely outed myself here

BearSoFair · 23/05/2020 10:48

DH has marmite and marmalade [boak]
I like Marmite. I like marmalade (or did until citrus became a huge IBS trigger) but they should never be put together!

GreyGardens88 · 23/05/2020 10:53

Most of these sound truly revolting

PajamasnoDramas · 23/05/2020 11:39

Quark cheese with herbs and black currant jam - delish! Not had since I was in Germany a long time ago.

Dustyroad63 · 23/05/2020 12:59

Heinz sandwich spread reminds me of my childhood. My sister and I called them sick sandwiches. Vile.

My favourite weird combination is bacon and banana sandwiches.
I thought it sounded awful but tried it and it really goes together well.

NoddingTulip · 23/05/2020 13:10

Cheese and organic dried apricots, has to be organic ones (which are dark in colour)as they taste very different to the yellow ones almost caramelized/treacle.

Being a kiwi I'm partial to fairy bread, white buttered bread with sprinkles on top..... even better if you do one slice with rainbow sprinkles and another with chocolate and then sandwich them together 🤤.

Gingerkittykat · 23/05/2020 21:48

Mature cheddar, marmite and banana.

AnneKipanki · 23/05/2020 23:35

I have heard of the fairy bread Grin
