Best chocolate?

I love chocolate but don't eat it much - most chocolate seems to have a horrible taste now compared to what I remember and also doesn't ever seem to melt properly!

I tried Tony's Chocolonely which is really nice but I'm finding it hard to come by, any other recommendations?
I usually like dark but not fussed really

Lindt

I didn't like the Tony's stuff much. Too thick and waxy.

granadagirl · 15/05/2020 23:41

Second Lindt

Snorkelface · 15/05/2020 23:42

Rococo chocolate - I'm not a fan of dark chocolate usually but their dark chocolate and orange bars or the sea salt one are amazing. Bit pricey though.

The Aldi stuff is really nice - Moser Roth

Otherwise Lindt! The horrible taste is usually the abomination which is palm oil

uncomfortablydumb53 · 16/05/2020 00:34

Lindt here too
Especially the big milk chocolate bar with Hazelnuts!

twotimetina · 16/05/2020 07:58

Looks like I'll have to check out the Lindt bars then! Can you get a good range just in the supermarket or should I be looking elsewhere too?

I'll also check out Rococo Snorkel thanks

Valrhona allllll the way. Get it online. Especially their blonde chocolate which is completely addictive and like an extremely good version of Caramac.

GreasyFryUp · 16/05/2020 08:02

Oh I used to love caramac. Not sure if it would be too sweet for me these days...

needsleepz · 16/05/2020 08:05

Aldi Choceur rum, nut & raisin is amazing! And they do a salted pretzel one too. Neither are dark but they do a normal dark option.

Kpo58 · 16/05/2020 08:07

Tony's Chocolonely is easy to get in Sainsburys and Waitrose.

Dowser · 16/05/2020 08:28

Valor dark with almonds
I usually bring back 4 bars from Tenerife in March
Ate the last, last week
I think you can get it delivered here

FairfaxAikman · 16/05/2020 09:31

Specialist bean to bar stuff is a bit like single malt whiskies - variations based on bean type and location.
Failing that Femmes de Virunga - it supports female cacao growers.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/05/2020 09:41

Lindt chocolate bunnies

I like Milka, Aldi do nice chocolate and M&S Swiss chocolate

They are all very creamy. Not keen on dark chocolate or white. Tony’s tasted like cooking chocolate a bit waxy

Pupsiecola · 16/05/2020 09:42

Lindt. Anything Lindt. The balls are soooo good. There's a pick n mix shop not far from me 😁

WellIWasInTheNeighbourhoo · 16/05/2020 09:44

I like green & blacks hazelnut & currant, it’s like a dark grownup fruit & nut.

RegalRags · 16/05/2020 09:49

I find the Lindt far too sweet and creamy
The green and blacks butterscotch is nice and very easy to get hold of.

sparklefarts · 16/05/2020 09:51

Aldi's stuff over Lindt etc anyway. Much better

sparklefarts · 16/05/2020 09:51
  • any day
lborgia · 16/05/2020 09:53

I really hate Lindt chocolate. It's over sweet, the milk chocolate is so artificial. Bleugh.

I like Green and Blacks milk chocolate, it tastes of chocolate, still not the best texture though.

I do like Moser Roth from Aldi too.

SheldonSaysSo1 · 16/05/2020 09:57

I like Godiva - especially the caramel one

JoysOfString · 16/05/2020 09:59

I second Green and blacks milk, it’s like a dark milk chocolate. I found it weird at first but now love it.

If you’re near a Waitrose, their posh own brand choc is very nice.

M&S dark mountain bar

Prestat dark choc discs if you’re feeling rich. A friend gave me some when I was in hospital after giving birth - best present ever!

Spied · 16/05/2020 10:01

I'm happy with Sainsburys own brand chocolate. (not the cheapest basics). It's only £1.50 ish for a 200g block and it's really lovely. Made in Germany.

The Tony's is OK but it wasn't as great as I was expecting.

Tolleshunt · 16/05/2020 10:02

I find Lindt far too sweet and sickly. Green and Blacks milk is nice and so is Sainsburys Taste the Difference milk chocolate. The best of the mainstream supermarket ones, I’ve found. I don’t have an Aldi near me but I did have a Choceur milk hazelnut bar on the one occasion I went to one, and it was lovely and amazingly cheap for the quality.

TimeWastingButFun · 16/05/2020 10:11

My favourite is Godiva's salted caramel milk chocolate or Purdys pink Himalayan sea salt toffees
