Best chocolate?

I love chocolate but don't eat it much - most chocolate seems to have a horrible taste now compared to what I remember and also doesn't ever seem to melt properly!

I tried Tony's Chocolonely which is really nice but I'm finding it hard to come by, any other recommendations?
I usually like dark but not fussed really

Ritter Sport is the mutts nuts.

Second Tony's as well if you can get it.
Otherwise Gnaw chocolate, Montezuma and independents like Charlene's Chocolate Factory.

JoysOfString · 16/05/2020 12:49

I like Ritter sport but only a few varieties seem to be available, and they’re a bit boring. I remember having coffee and cream Ritter in Germany years ago, it was AMAZING.

Zisforstripyoss · 16/05/2020 14:15

You can get loads from amazon. Lidl sometimes have different versions, especially the christmas ones. The wafer one is amazing and cornflakes, both of which are stocked in asda. I'm also partial to praline and the brownie one.

Marks and spencers chocolate is my favourite! In its many forms unfortunately Wink

Graffitiqueen · 16/05/2020 14:32

Aldi cherry and chilli is my favourite.

PrayingandHoping · 16/05/2020 14:35

Hotel chocolat

I only like dark choc though. Anything under 70% is too sweet. Ideal is 85%

Aldi M....rath (can't think of its name. Someone mentioned it upthread) is good for everyday. But HC is the nicest 👍

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2020 14:37

@melissasummerfield i had a bag of the M&S mint chocolate buttons last week. they are lush, and HUGE.

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2020 14:40

Aldi Moser Roth and Milka.

nannytothequeen · 16/05/2020 14:54

Whittakers. Probably not available outside of NZ but if it is , give it a try. Especially the creamy milk, the milk choc caramel and the Doris plum and almond.

Cloudyapples · 16/05/2020 14:56

If you want proper good chocolate try cocoa runners subscription - 4 good quality bars of choc every month.

AnnaNimmity · 16/05/2020 15:21

I second Tony Chocoloney and waitrose own brand. I also like Green and Black's butterscotch and almond flavours and Montezuma's large chocolate buttons.

we have an Aldi opening up near us, am looking forward to trying the chocolate.

Tiggles · 16/05/2020 15:25

Aballu in Wrexham do a gorgeous dark chocolate and chilli. No idea if they post it though.

MsChatterbox · 16/05/2020 15:35

Cadbury dairy milk 😋

newtb · 16/05/2020 16:21

Lidl own brand cooking chocolate is good not overly sweet or creamy, my second choice.

My first choice is Nestlé dessert milk. Almost unobtainable atm in France.

Last choice milka, lidl/aldi own brand due to them tasting as if there's icing sugar in them or too much milk solids added.

Not chocolate as far as I'm concerned are the supermarket own brands such as Ivoria (intermarché).

hotchocdrinker · 16/05/2020 16:26

This one is delicious. www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/no1-milk-chocolate-with-feuilletine-salt/651711-706934-706935

Waitrose also does the above but without the feuilletine, but it doesn't seem to be on the website. It's a darkish milk chocolate. I used to eat Green and Blacks milk chocolate, but the Waitrose one is much nicer. M&S also have a nice single origin, 46% cocoa solid one which is lovely.

YouSetTheTone · 16/05/2020 16:30

I am OBSESSED with Tony’s Chocolonely milk/ dark pretzel choc bar. Blush
DH likes the dark almond one.
I order direct from Tony’s Chocolonely site, it’s really straightforward and arrives fairly promptly. Bonus is no cashier or customers judging me on the quantity..

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/05/2020 16:38

I love the Chocolate on KitKat’s
Has a distinctive taste (not the American bars that tastes different)

AnotherEmma · 16/05/2020 16:46

Lindt - the dark chocolate is lovely (and I'm not usually a fan, prefer milk)
Godiva
Green & Blacks
I am also partial to cheap and cheerful Galaxy

Not Hotel Chocolat, I don't know if it's changed but I had some recently and it was horrid.

AnotherEmma · 16/05/2020 16:50

I also like Riesen bars, dark chocolate and chewy toffee

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 16/05/2020 17:20

Orange Lindt
Nestle Milky Bar
Thorntons rum truffles

TwoZeroTwoZero · 16/05/2020 17:34

I have cheap taste because I love maltesers and cadbury's giant buttons! I also like hotel chocolat.

MrsJoshNavidi · 16/05/2020 17:36

You need to put a malteser, a minstrel and a random Revel all in your mouth at the same time.

MrsJoshNavidi · 16/05/2020 17:41

But the best chocolate IMO is just about any Ritter Sport bar.

AgeLikeWine · 16/05/2020 17:42

I like Lindt & Ritter Sport. Lidl’s own brand is also fine.

Galaxy is disgusting and inedible. It just takes of sugar & palm fat. I don’t believe it contains any actual cocoa at all.
