Best chocolate?

I love chocolate but don't eat it much - most chocolate seems to have a horrible taste now compared to what I remember and also doesn't ever seem to melt properly!

I tried Tony's Chocolonely which is really nice but I'm finding it hard to come by, any other recommendations?
I usually like dark but not fussed really

The dark mint lindt bar is fab, the moser Roth version is ok too, but not minty enough for me!

domesticslattern · 16/05/2020 17:50

Mmmm Tony's Chocoloney pretzel!!! I first heard about this on MN and it really is the best (though I wish the chunks were sensible squares not crazy paving)
Or Green and Blacks butterscotch. Simple, classic.

MurrayTheMonk · 16/05/2020 17:57

I like Hotel Chocolat or Green and Blacks Mayan one..
But if I'm only going to local Londis I favour Galaxy of the 'normal' offerings. Our yocal shop recently turned up a wild card entry -Milka cherry Creme which was phenomenal.

Tony's chocoloney sell from their own website with free shipping 👍🏻. I may be placing my second lockdown order...

BarkingCat · 16/05/2020 18:07

I love Tony’s but stopped buying it as you can’t break off sensible squares. I like what they stand for, love the taste, fine with the price, packaging quite nice but oh, who thought that was a good mould for a chocolate bar? It’s impossible to break off a small piece.

I tend to buy Lindt now, I like the dark chocolate and sea salt.

Green and Blacks leaves an odd film in my mouth. As does things like Cadbury’s which I used to love but it tastes awful now, I can’t stand it. It’s so greasy in the mouth.

Aldi chocolate is nice but I rarely go in there. I occasionally do just to buy chocolate, wipes and nappies.

DennisTMenace · 16/05/2020 19:34

Hotel chocolat for me. I love the 70% dark. The selectors are great, but it's all on delivery now, so not sure what is available. Also like Aldi Moser Roth

Bertoldbrecht · 16/05/2020 19:46

Another vote for tony's. Also like ritter sports particularly the marzipan and nut ones, if you look on the german website they have loads of difcerent flavours.

twotimetina · 16/05/2020 19:47

Probably a silly question but is Ritter Sport for sport? Like a Kendall mint cake type thing?
I've seen it Lidl but always assumed it was for hiking Grin

Marabou milk chocolate, found at IKEA, and on amazon (cheaper start Ikea). It's the closest I've found to old style Cadbury dairy milk.

AgeLikeWine · 16/05/2020 20:02

@twotimetina I hope Ritter Sport isn’t intended for actual sport, as I enjoy scoffing the stuff with a big mug of tea while sitting on my expanding lockdown arse Grin. My favourite flavours are rum & raisin, marzipan & honey salt almonds. Waitrose also stock it.

RegalRags · 16/05/2020 20:14

Ritter sport cornflakes! I'd forgotten about that one, delicious.
If you class sitting on your arse scoffing a bar of chocolate behind a cushion so your angry toddler can't see then yes, it is for sport

UnitedRoad · 16/05/2020 20:15

@Sparklingbrook I don’t think I’ll sleep until I try M&S mint chocolate buttons!

JustPickleRick · 16/05/2020 20:15

Marabou 😍

reluctantbrit · 16/05/2020 20:16

I get the Single Origin chocolates from Lidl or Waitrose. Less sweet, no sickly oily and you can get them in dark or milk.

reluctantbrit · 16/05/2020 20:18

As a German I can promise that Ritter Sport has nothing to do with being sporty. The advertisement was always a group of healthy sporty looking people sharing a package after a bike ride or other exercise.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 16/05/2020 20:18

Hotel Chocolat. And they have some bargains at the moment.

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2020 21:14

You won't regret it @UnitedRoad.

AJTommo · 16/05/2020 21:44

Fifth Dimension chocolates - only online but absolutely gorgeous. Not cheap though 😞

Cherrysoup · 16/05/2020 21:57

Yes to Ritter Sport. My local little shops stock it.

Dowser · 16/05/2020 22:07

Bendicks chocolate mints..especially when half price 👍

JoysOfString · 16/05/2020 22:46

I love bendicks. I wish you could get the dark chocolate that you get on a bendicks bittermint, but by itself. (Love it on the mints too though)

H1978 · 16/05/2020 22:54

I agree with the Aldi one and definitely Lindt as a treat
Over Christmas we went to Spain and I got a bar of milka bubbly it was delicious I had the whole bar one in one go. I regretted that I only got one but luckily I found some last week in home bargains and brought all the ones they had 😁

Getabloominmoveon · 16/05/2020 23:10

Fellow Ritter lovers, here’s a post-lockdown destination for you - the amazing Ritter shop in Berlin where you can gorge on all the flavours AND create your own bar!! www.visitberlin.de/en/ritter-sport-bunte-schokowelt

AgentCooper · 16/05/2020 23:15

Lindt plain chocolate with sea salt is the shit.

Ritter Sport mint and the cornflake one too. I love it when Lidl has the huge big bars in.

M&S Swiss chocolate is really lovely too.

My all time favourite is anything from Coco Chocolate in Edinburgh- absolutely gorgeous. The Earl Grey is amazing.

Fenlandmountainrescue · 17/05/2020 00:12

More expensive chocolate seems to be the way to go. The cheaper stuff always has palm oil.
