International Space Station visible again

The International Space Station is visible again from Fri 15th for the next 10 evenings.
Tonight should be particularly good as it's for 6 minutes

Fri May 15, 10:50 PM - 6 min - rising from the SW

Try these various links and/or select your own location.
NASA page for London

ISS - Visible Passes 10 day predictions for London

ISS Interactive 3D Visualization

NASA ISS Live Stream - Earth From Space
This one is quite interesting because if 'LIVE NOW' is at the top left it's LIVE. Otherwise, as the Space Station goes into night every 45 mins, the video stream is unavailable. During this time, and other breaks in transmission, recorded footage is shown. When it's back in daylight the live stream should start again.

Let's hope for clear skies - Good Luck!

Brilliant, thanks for posting.

ConradKnightSocks · 15/05/2020 17:42

Thanks OP, will try to spot it! I especially like the live stream you've posted - amazing!

DanFmDorking · 15/05/2020 18:06

Thanks Conrad
If you want to turn the nerd switch to 11 try this -
See the Latitude and Longitude values at the top of the bottom centre window?
(Which, at the time of typing, are 23.7S and 4.0E)
Well, type them into Google Maps as 7.3S, 26.3E (NOTE: make the ‘point’ a full stop and put a comma between them) to see exactly where they are (were) overhead. You will need to zoom out.

Oooops - should read ...

Well, type them into Google Maps as 7.3S, 26.3E ...

sorry

you can use the spotthestation website to set alerts for your location.

Setting your location is not being a 'nerd' and if you don't know your longitude and latitude, find out. A basic fact that anyone mildly intelligent should know. I do hate the MN 'science is unfeminine' attitude which is at the core of the site, there's no 'science' topic, only 'geek stuff' and it is deemed bad to be able to do basic maths or risk assess.

the alert system allows you to specify the times when you would go out to see the station, as some may not want to be up at 2am which is when it will be visible from my location, not-London. You'll only get alerts when maximum height is over 40 degrees above the horizon, as most city types or those in hilly areas won't be able to see it if anything less.

Thank you for posting this. I was a bit wistful at having missed the boat on this last time.

I've just been out for a look but way too cloudy here tonight. Fingers crossed for the week.

ohlookthisisjustdaftnow · 15/05/2020 23:03

Yes, DH and DD went out and saw it, I was left here waiting for a cake to finish the last couple of minutes' baking - typical! But hopefully I'll see it at some point over the next few days.

DanFmDorking · 15/05/2020 23:24

OK, a mixed response, I'll be posting the times for tomorrow later Smile
