I think I finished the last thread by accident...

Don't take what is on FB as the reality. I had a FB chat with someone today, who from her FB you would think she was loving it - she really isn't and finding it really difficult. - I didn't ask but I wonder if Ramadan is harder this year.

CaliforniaMountainSnake · 11/05/2020 22:37

And the immune thing.. it's a disaster waiting to happen. Sun and exercise deprived kids on a diet of screens and comfort food. Well, that's us

This is my thinking. Once people do get back to work they are going to catch bugs off each other. Because we haven't been exposing ourselves to other people and our health will be bad from stress, limited exercise and fresh air, and for a lot of people crap food.

And when people start getting ill when they return to work and school what will it be blamed on. Covid and its never ending symptom list.

Tummy bug, covid, sore throat, covid, snotty nose, covid. Let's just ignore the fact those are normal illnesses you get and will be more suseptable to post lockdown.

Bollss · 11/05/2020 22:40

I did wonder that about our lovely next door neighbours . They usually have family surrounding them especially at this time and they've 2 small children, she's pregnant. I can't imagine how hard it must be actually.

And bless them they're still sending us food over the fence like they do every year. (That's probably against the rules but I don't care it's delicious!)

ThatLibraryMiss · 11/05/2020 22:41

LilacTree1, from the article you linked: "The government’s Chief Medical Officer says that social distancing will be required for at least 12 months with no guarantee it will not go on indefinitely thereafter."

Sucks to be single and looking for a partner then. Looks like you won't be able to get cozy for at least a year and maybe for eveeeeerrrrr.

Do these people actually think through what they're saying? Do they actually think that it's realistic?

Mascotte · 11/05/2020 22:44

@ThatLibraryMiss I think the unsustainability if it all is what annoys me most.

OP posts:
LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 22:45

ThatLibrary they have become dictators. It’s terrifying.

I said in another thread, sorry to be boring but I’ll say it again

Please write to everyone you can, or the dementors will drive policy making.

CaliforniaMountainSnake · 11/05/2020 22:49

Do these people actually think through what they're saying? Do they actually think that it's realistic?

It's an absolute shit show. They are just pushing out nonsensical rubbish in a hope of digging themselves out of the hole they got themselves into.

They scared the shit out of everyone. Now they need to try and coax people out again as they realise a lockdown is unsustainable and worse than the disease. So they've come out with stupid rules to give the illusion of lockdown - while saying just forget about it and go back to work.

LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 22:54

California- if only that were true. If it were, they’d can the 5 tests and stop obsessing about the R rate.

Pinkflipflop85 · 11/05/2020 22:55

Just read some batshit dementoring about eating a pear that someone else touched = eating covid

LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 22:56

We now have a thread with a teacher who thinks her chance of dying is 3 in a 100.

Idiocracy is nearly here, all that’s left is the bar code and putting Gatorade on crops.

ThatLibraryMiss · 11/05/2020 22:57

The trouble with statements being so absolute is that people will either be terrified into submission or they'll say "Well, that's bollocks" and reject the whole thing including the reasonable parts. I can't see many couples who aren't living together being happy to maintain social distancing for a year, let alone more. Of course people are going to break the rules, if the rules are as ill-conceived and irrational as that.

Nighttimefreedom · 11/05/2020 22:57

@LilacTree1 I'm on that thread too. How have people come to that conclusion? I don't get it.

LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 22:59

Night and she’s a teacher!!

I can’t blame the government for a 3/100 thing.

BreakingGlassCeilings · 11/05/2020 23:02

I love the realism on this thread.

I feel like I’m the only person who is not terrified, signing petitions about schools or generally posting all over social media about the irresponsible government daring to try and get the economy moving again.

Both parents (and a few other relatives) died relatively young. I wonder if that gives me a bit of perspective on death?

OutwardBound2016 · 11/05/2020 23:04

I’ve just watched Boris, they now seem to be casually dropping in the fact that there may never be a vaccine (shock) after Hancock was all gung ho about it a few weeks ago. I would hope that all the dementors clinging to the vaccine before they will consider leaving the house line listen up.

GroEggAndHam · 11/05/2020 23:14

I have to step away from those teacher threads. It's an echo chamber of fear - they'll all have heart attacks at this rate then catch Covid in hospital from the dirty nurses with their dirty NHS germs Grin

Willitneverend · 11/05/2020 23:16

@BreakingGlassCeilings we had that discussion one or two threads ago and discovered a high percentage of us had experienced a relative dying in an "out of the normal order" type of way.

justasking111 · 11/05/2020 23:17

Re: vaccine Boris said. "While critics have pointed to the increased danger of COVID-19 being transmitted by this and other moves to ease restrictions, Mr Johnson insisted "a 'zero risk' approach will not work".

And he argued in a foreword to the document that the government needed to plan for a "worst-case scenario" where scientists do not find a means of inoculating people against the illness.

"It is clear that the only feasible long-term solution lies with a vaccine or drug-based treatment," he says.

"But while we hope for a breakthrough, hope is not a plan."

So there you are that is the bald truth.

PickAChew · 11/05/2020 23:19

@PinkSparklyPussyCat this manes by Mel video might be useful for you

justasking111 · 11/05/2020 23:20

I agree that the dementors must not be allowed to drive things through fear, we have seen before how minorities can achieve the battiest things because they are the ones who sign petitions, knock on doors, badger MPs, then government believe that is what the majority want.

My small contribution is now to challenge the batty comments on FB by pricking their balloons which sometimes gives the silent majority an in to agree and say something themselves.

Do you want these dementors shaping our and our childrens futures??

BogRollBOGOF · 11/05/2020 23:21

I've just hidden a teacher. It's not the first time though. He's been hidden for Brexit before, and the most whinging I'm seeing is from the people who've been publicly airing their politics since 2016. They tend (but not all) to have been pro-Corbyn, and anti-Brexit. It's not vatiations in opinion that annoy me, it can be very interesting, it's the absolutism that is draining.

I haven't missed many days out walking/ running through lockdown. There's been about 3 or 4 days that the DCs weren't taken out and boy did I pay for that the next day, so it is a mission that they get a couple of miles in at least, and as they've got used to it, the grumbling time has reduced.

DS1 was more anxious from Feb until school broke up and he relaxed into being at home. I'd want the children out to burn energy anyway, but I also didn't want to risk DS1 getting too reclusive and fearful. We are fortunate that the countryside is very close and in certain directions, 15 mins from home becomes almost a non-issue for social distancing. That has made life immeasurably easier in recent times. I'm looking forwards to getting DS2 out to kick a ball around without it being The Daily Exercise.

Idiocracy was a deeply underrated film. Superficially naff, but it did have an underlying point!

Here's my Patronus. A Pyranean Mountain Dog. St Bernard sized (closely related) Bred to protect sheep from wolves in the mountains. Cuddly and patient, but fierce if needed. Beautiful to watch them gallumphing up the garden. Definitely an animal you want to be on your side! Dementors don't stand a chance Grin

LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 23:25

“ I've just hidden a teacher”

Is that legal?

justasking111 · 11/05/2020 23:28

Ah that explains remoaners in withdrawal have now latched onto their new fix covid Grin

maria860 · 11/05/2020 23:28

@Sallycinnamum some thrive on it don't they

FrangipaniBlue · 11/05/2020 23:29

If you think the School Dementors are unbearable you should try living in the Lake District.

My FB feed is full of "THE LAKE DISTRICT IS STILL CLOSED" dementors Confused

  1. all hotels, b&b's and campsites are closed
  2. all pubs and restaurants are closed
  3. all touristy places are closed
  4. we're riddled with Covid already (hello, have you seen the stats???)

Why the fuck would tourists flock here????

I accept that there will be a contingent who will head to the Lakes, but these people will be in the minority and quite frankly, they're more at risk of taking the sodding virus home with them!!

But people are being all hysterical like tourists are going to descend on Cumbria like a swarm of Kendal Mint Cake devouring locusts.

FFS i despair.
