My friends are primarily teachers or nhs workers, I am neither. But my whole sm is full of talks of teachers wont get ppe and they're considered unimportant and expendable, and how siblings will fall into despair at one being able to go to school but not the other (how hard is it to explain that it's just a staggered starting date?) And how the nhs staff will let me know what it's like in June when hoards of covid cases hit the decks.
I did point out everyone expected that after easter but it never happened. I'm sick of the my children wont be Guinea pigs talks, I'm more sick of the "I'm not sending mine back till september" like it's some magical future month when corona will go "shit, its autumn. I'd better fuck off now, my time here is done!"
I'm not complacent, I think I'm the right amount of nervous but sensible with it. The yammering about not going out and about or to school until there is a vaccine. There is a very real chance there never will be a vaccine, what then?? But if you dare to mention that we need to find a way to live with this virus you're called all sorts of names, and god forbid you support Boris or actually dont see anything wrong with the new slogan. Well then you're just cannon fodder.
The mere suggestion that the government is now moving to allow the british public to use some common sense is met with cries of "but everyone will think lockdown is over and all go out!" When just a fortnight ago the government were accused of treating us all like children.
My children have luckily been pretty relaxed about the whole thing, my yr 6 child has probably been more upset now and again but that's because she is older and understands more. Home schooling is non existent as DH and I both have mega busy jobs wfh (and very grateful to still be working) but they're not the kids of jobs you can just sign off for an hour or two each day, we barely manage lunch breaks. Yet, I dont doubt my kids will be fine because frankly they're fucking amazing little sods and are always surprising me!
