Would £100k be a life changing amount of money to you?

And if so how would it so?
What would it go on or towards ?

Absolutely! We could payoff mortgage and pay for planned renovations. And enough left for a long haul holiday.

Comps83 · 11/05/2020 07:49

I'm about to inherit £140k .
I wouldn't say life changing as such but it's definitely doing to make difference
Still not sure what to do with it. We are definitely going to move house but not sure where or what kind of house .

vampirethriller · 11/05/2020 07:50

Yes it would. I have less than £5000 a year at the moment. £100k is impossible money to me.

SimonJT · 11/05/2020 07:54

It’s about my salary before deductions, it would make a big dent in my mortgage. I’m over paying so I can be mortgage free as soon as possible.

SciFiScream · 11/05/2020 08:01

I think it would depend how we used it. If we used it to build a (much dreamt about) extension that would definitely be life changing. It would also mean our LTV would improve so our mortgage terms would improve.

This would be the best way to change our lives.

Second would be to put money away for the children

Third would be to pay off half our mortgage

Housing security is life changing I think.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 11/05/2020 08:03

No, but it’s a good sum and would be welcomed if it came my way!

Bawdrip · 11/05/2020 08:04

I fantasize about winning that much. It would pay off our business loans and mean we can actually start earning from our business. We would finally be able to buy a home.

Ilets · 11/05/2020 08:05

No but I wouldn't turn my nose up at it. I'd just pay off a chunk of the mortgage.

Besom · 11/05/2020 08:10

Depends what we mean by life changing. I could pay my mortgage off so would have more disposable income/more ability to save. I suppose this would be a fairly significant change.

BertieBotts · 11/05/2020 08:13

Yes. Would clear all our debts, let me learn to drive and do a proper German course, let us change our car (or get additional, if I was driving) for one that would properly accommodate us all and let us visit home twice a year like I'd like to. There might be enough left for me and possibly DH if he wanted to, to do an OU course (outside UK, not free). I don't think we'd use it directly to buy property, there wouldn't be enough left after all that, but probably we'd put aside the rest to fund trips home, nursery, or just family holidays for X number of years until my income increased. So yes it would enable us to change our lives. And facilitate a lifestyle change in the short term as well.

Itwasntme1 · 11/05/2020 08:13

Not life changing no, but I would Be able to move house Without increasing my mortgage.

Hedgehog44 · 11/05/2020 08:13

God yes! Debt free, something in the back so we could leave our Housing Association property. It would change my life.

Villanelle92 · 11/05/2020 08:20

Yes.

It would clear our debts, let us put a decent size deposit on a house, we could both learn to drive and buy a car, get married (were planning on going abroad anyway so not massive costs) and put some away for our Son.

We live in NW so house prices aren’t huge.

Fifthtimelucky · 11/05/2020 08:21

My husband and I are both retired, our mortgage is paid off, and our pensions are comfortable, so it wouldn't make any difference to us personally.

It would make a huge difference to our children though so I would give them £50,000 each which would be a very nice house deposit for one now, and the other when she leaves university.

trilbydoll · 11/05/2020 08:23

It could take years off the mortgage so although not life changing right now, we would be mortgage free much earlier.

Connie222 · 11/05/2020 08:23

Yes.
We could buy a house here with only another 100k mortgage.

worldsworststepfordwife · 11/05/2020 08:24

We inherited £160k paid off 110k mortgage 10k car finance and put the rest in a savings account, that has become our source of interest free loans ie we did house renovations from it , but then over the course of the year put it back , then took out money to buy a car with cash again putting it back

Yes it’s made us comfortable we can afford nice things and we can pay cash for everything we have no debt at all and the lump sum that’s left and our small outgoing means if our income is lost this year A new wage can be a third of what we get currently and we would manage

WomanIsTaken · 11/05/2020 08:28

I often think, having stated upthread that even a quarter of it would be transformative for me, that if there was a lottery that paid out forty £25k wins per week, or twenty £50k prizes, instead of a whopper £1m, I might actually buy a ticket. I don't need £1m, but £25k - £50k would be enough to open some doors that are currently firmly shut.

Makeuptherules · 11/05/2020 08:33

My husband is a high earner but 100k is a lot to everyone! We would get an extension in the loft and the back or go for a bigger house (obvs not now as house market it going to shit)

Shoxfordian · 11/05/2020 08:35

We couldn't pay off the mortgage (only just bought the house!) but we could use it towards the mortgage repayment I suppose or if left to me, on chanel handbags and holidays. Not life changing though

dropthemic · 11/05/2020 08:37

I can't imagine living a life where 100k is not life changing. It would mean we would be almost mortgage free. Just in the middle of building a house so we have been saving for years. I don't think I own any clothes that aren't from primark or, for special occasions h&m. I just realised the other day I don't own a decent hair brush. Just the small handbag ones from primark. I'm afraid of ever spending on something I don't strictly need. I'm so used to looking where every little penny goes I think my head would explode at the thought of 100k.
I'd love not to work full time when my baby is small so this could go a very long way to that. Oh to dream!!!

AtTheFootOfTheHill · 11/05/2020 08:40

Yes, I would move closer to work, close enough to walk to work. I'd avoid public transport altogether and I'd get loads of activity from all the walking.
I've been yearning to do this since a long time before the 'rona. But I don't have 100k tucked away :-(

DarylDixonsHair · 11/05/2020 08:40

Oh God yes. Not just for me but my dc, parents, ex partner, best friend. I could escape from the cycle of benefits, council flats and debt that my entire family live in. I would pay my training, start a business, buy a little patch of land abroad and triple my money within 10 years Grin

Rainb0w · 11/05/2020 08:42

The mortgage would be gone and I would have approx 50k to put into the down payment on a little place in the sun we're dreaming of.

TheGirlWithAPrince · 11/05/2020 08:42

I would buy a house :) would be life changing in a way
