Would £100k be a life changing amount of money to you?

And if so how would it so?
What would it go on or towards ?

Yes, have you got it on you?

CayrolBaaaskin · 10/05/2020 23:48

Life enhancing but not life changing

RightOnTheEdge · 10/05/2020 23:52

It would change my life because I am a single parent on a low wage. It would give me peace of mind and a break from the stress of counting every penny.

It would mean I could afford to learn to drive and buy a car. It would be amazing to be able to drive my dc the seaside or forests or lovely places for days out and I'd be able to drive to see family because none live close to us.

I'd be able to put some away for the future because I have zero savings and live week to week.

I never have £1000 in my bank £100,000 is literally a dream.

MarieKlepto · 10/05/2020 23:55

It wouldn't be life changing to us now but we have a plan and it would certainly switch that up to being a lot better than our attainable dream.

slipperywhensparticus · 10/05/2020 23:56

It could buy my house

Comefromaway · 10/05/2020 23:56

Yes, it would pay off our mortgage and pay dd’s postgrad fees.

elizabethdraper · 10/05/2020 23:59

It would pay off my mortgage.

I could leave my job which I hate.

Buy a blue fiat 500 which I am so in love with.

Yes it would completely change my life

Hamm87 · 11/05/2020 00:03

That would buy us a family home and clear all debts

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/05/2020 00:05

Yes

overtly · 11/05/2020 00:06

In a way yes. We always have plenty of cash but I'm quite wary with what I spend it on in terms of treats for myself. If I was just given 100k I would be more open to spending it on things that I normally talk myself out of buying.

darkforceofexcesszeal · 11/05/2020 00:08

It would reduce the amount owing on our mortgage by slightly less than half, which would possibly allow us to pay it off before retirement. It wouldn’t materially change anything else and we would both still have to work ft to pay mortgage, cars, kids university etc. It would be a big help though.

NoSquirrels · 11/05/2020 00:09

life enhancing but not life changing

I think this is a great way to put it. Once you have a mortgage, £100K really doesn't go too far at all. It would not completely pay off ours, so whilst it would drastically shorten the term, and therefore mean there was more money for other things (investing for future, pensions, university fees or lump sum to DC, holidays, home improvements etc) we'd still need to work, so life couldn't change too much.

It would be amazing and I'd love it, and it would have a really long-term effect, but I'm not sure it's enough to alter the course of our lives as a family.

Depressing, really. Once upon a time it would be unimaginable riches, now it is a number on the mortgage balance sheet.

IdblowJonSnow · 11/05/2020 00:09

Yes indeed. I could pay off mortgage w half of that. I think I'd put some of the rest towards a teeny bolt hole by the sea. Probably I'd just save it because I'm quite sensible! Not much else you could do right now!

MrFaceyRomford · 11/05/2020 00:11

No. It would be nice, but not enough to change our lives.

hadtojoin · 11/05/2020 00:17

It would mean we could afford to pay someone to do or finish all the DIY jobs my husband has no enthusiasm to start or complete. Then we could get our house in good order to sell and buy a better house in a better position than where we are now.

pepperpod28 · 11/05/2020 00:18

Yes, it would pay off my mortgage and all my other debt and still leave enough to majorly improve my house. Would also mean I could tell my arsehole boss to shove it and not stress about having no job to go to. It's more than 5 years salary for me.

UnmightyBoosh · 11/05/2020 00:20

Absolutely: could pay off debts and put a deposit on a house.

riotlady · 11/05/2020 00:20

Yes, we could buy a nice house and have 50% deposit and a lowish mortgage. Might even have space for 3 kids instead of 2 we have planned

BeeFarseer · 11/05/2020 00:21

Yes, it would be genuinely life-changing for us.

In Amimal Crossing though, it doesn't scratch the surface of what I owe Tom Nook.

JustStayHome · 11/05/2020 00:23

Yes. Deposit on a house

Murdernotinparadise · 11/05/2020 00:24

Would be lovely but like a PP said, more life enhancing than life changing. We could pay off the rest of the mortgage though which would be bliss

Nearlyalmost50 · 11/05/2020 00:24

I'm in the life enhancing not changing category too. It would pay off just over half of my mortgage, so I'd still keep working but perhaps could retire earlier. New car nice but I have an old battered car which is brilliant, might help the kids feel a bit less embarrassed.

I can think of plenty of lovely things to do with the money, but it wouldn't alter the direction of my life, nor would I want it to as I like my life, my little house, my crappy car and love my job so there's not much I want to change. Holidays are a dream now anyway.

Pipandmum · 11/05/2020 00:27

No. It would be welcome for sure and make certain things easier but not life changing.

TrashPanda · 11/05/2020 00:31

Yes, it would be a huge deposit for a house with a garden rather than this HA flat we are in.

Gingerkittykat · 11/05/2020 00:37

Yes, I could take three years off to go and study my dream course and still afford to live.
