And if so how would it so?
What would it go on or towards ?

Yes. It would be enough to get us on the property ladder. Our rent is high, and we are reliable Tennant's, but we just can't save a deposit. So it would make a massive difference!

middleager · 10/05/2020 23:34

Yes. could pay off our mortgage and I could find a new job that is less stressful.

OntheWaves40 · 10/05/2020 23:34

Yes it would mean I could get on property and have security instead of renting

Bells3032 · 10/05/2020 23:35

No we live in London. Thats less than a year's salary for us and doesn't yet you too far in London.

Lemonblast · 10/05/2020 23:35

Mortgage would be paid off leaving a sizeable chunk of cash each month to save and spend without having to plan every penny.

FizzyPink · 10/05/2020 23:36

Yes, we’re lucky to have high paying jobs which mean we’re able to save for a deposit but London is expensive so it’s very slow going. £100k would mean we could buy now instead of in a years time as well as take out a smaller mortgage and probably not have to compromise on either standard of house or location

waterandlemonjuice · 10/05/2020 23:36

No. It would pay off some of our mortgage but we’d still have to work to pay for university, assorted costs of kids, bills and other stuff

noriim · 10/05/2020 23:36

That would pay off a lot of my mortgage and allow me to change careers and have a baby....so yes...£100k would change my life.

Sadie789 · 10/05/2020 23:37

Not life changing, no. But I would certainly be pleased to receive such a sum.

36degrees · 10/05/2020 23:37

It would pay off our mortgage, cover a new car when the time comes and give us savings of about 3 months' wages. Which would be nice.

Chty · 10/05/2020 23:37

Yes insanely so, is pay off the debts, do an open uni degree, buy a bunch of furniture I need.

eldeeno · 10/05/2020 23:38

Not really. It would be life enhancing but not life changing.

It wouldn't pay off the mortgage, wouldn't be enough for me to stop working.

So whilst it would make my life nicer (and would be very welcome!), in reality it would probably pay of majority of my mortgage so I have more to spend on a new car, nice holidays, membership to the luxury gym, afford a cleaner and a gardener. So it would enhance my life, but wouldn't significantly change it.

Hence

AgeLikeWine · 10/05/2020 23:38

No. Only a sum large enough to enable me to retire comfortably would be life-changing, and that would need to be considerably more than £100k. It would be a nice contribution to my retirement fund, though....

Sparrowlegs248 · 10/05/2020 23:39

Yes, I could get divorced and buy my arsehole husband out of the house (with considerably less actually).

BestOption · 10/05/2020 23:39

In a way.

It would probably(just) bridge the gap between what I'd get for my flat & what I would need to buy a house -with a garden, with also increasing my mortgage, but to something slightly less eye watering.

Which would make my life a bit nicer, but not exactly life changing.

Sparrowlegs248 · 10/05/2020 23:40

And buy me a newer, bigger car which would be brilliant.

Fiddlersgreen · 10/05/2020 23:41

Yes it would enable us to buy a house.
We have been saving for years and have 40k saved but as we have two teenagers and live in London there is nothing affordable and it just seems to keep getting further and further away

CountFosco · 10/05/2020 23:42

No. Pay a bit of the mortgage, add a bit to our savings, spend 5-10% on a holiday or something for the house. Very nice but not life changing.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 10/05/2020 23:42

It would be life changing in that I would ask my landlord if I could buy this house and would have change to renovate it. Failing that I’d buy a house elsewhere in town. Either way if no longer be throwing thousands away in rent anymore. No mortgage either. All my earnings could be saved. I could invest in my business, expand, take on staff.

ClientQ · 10/05/2020 23:43

Yes, it would pay off my mortgage

OneMomentInHistory · 10/05/2020 23:43

It wouldn't change the direction of my life, but it would certainly make it easier - and/or it would allow for luxuries (e.g. private schooling, currently not an option).

Soen · 10/05/2020 23:44

It would clear my mortgage and free up my time to do other things so yep.

AlohaMolly · 10/05/2020 23:45

I could pay off my £15k debt, buy me a newer car and still give me eight years worth of my current annual wage ha.

Alternatively, I could buy a house outright up here!

TomTomRunner · 10/05/2020 23:45

Yes, pay DP off for his share of the house so I can kick him out.

DixieFlatline · 10/05/2020 23:46

It would mean DH could retrain now, rather than several years from now.
