Mine is Sandie Shaw. I can't believe it had never occurred to me until tonight that her name is a play on Sandy Shore.

My friend's DD had been at Cardiff uni for well over a year when her mind was blown upon discovering the weird language appearing on every road sign as they crossed the Severn bridge- was Welsh... 😂

JoeExoticsEyebrowRing · 10/05/2020 11:30

Someone always comes on these threads and says that until they actually went to Center Parcs, they thought the entire complex was all underneath the dome!

KittenVsBox · 10/05/2020 11:36

@merryhouse

Baa baa black sheep have you any wool? Yes sir, yes sir 3 bags full.
One for the master, one for the dame, one for the little boy who lives down the lane.
Thank you said the master, thank you said the dame, thank you said the little boy who lived down the lane.

The first and last thank you dont really work on that rhythm, but the rest is spot on.

Bienentrinkwasser · 10/05/2020 11:37

@Wallywobbles Try having bantams! I spend my life trying to break broody hens 😂

We are expecting chicks in the next couple of days though!

user1495884620 · 10/05/2020 11:41

The anal sex thing I had heard! Grin

The dome thing makes sense. (Not that it is all under a dome, but that people might think that!)

HavenDilemma · 10/05/2020 11:43

@CloudsCoveredTheSky I'm amazed people don't know that about dandelions, must all be city types.

I live in the Yorkshire Dales and didn't know that! I was raised tending to gardens with my mother & grandmother too 🤯

dottiedodah · 10/05/2020 11:45

Pelleas I think JL was trying to come up with an innocent explanation ,as some of these songs were in danger of being banned! Looking at the lyrics they seem more "trippy " to me than a description of a childs drawing.Long been a debate about them I think!

HavenDilemma · 10/05/2020 11:46

@totallyyesno Tbf Trump didn't know this either. Hence his comment about meeting the president of Puerto Rico (himself).

SERIOUSLY?!?!?! 🤣🤣🤣^
^
I have to look this up on YouTube!

ScottyDottyDooDah · 10/05/2020 11:46

I used to think that 'several' meant the same thing as 'seven'. There were just two ways of saying it.

Am still unsure as to how many 'several' refers to, TBH.

I am degree-educated...

Butterymuffin · 10/05/2020 11:48

Several means 'more than two' @ScottyDottyDooDah

covydleigh · 10/05/2020 11:49

@MilkTwoSugarsThanks I'm not vegan but that's kind of silly... we still have other animals we don't eat right? I agree that dairy farmers are a lot worse then meat farmers though.

sashh · 10/05/2020 11:50

Is the South Pole a 'country'?

No, Antarctica is owned by several countries, one being Australia, and I think that might be the largest chunk.

Russia is huge but doesn't have that much permanent snow, even Siberia has months with temperatures above 10-15 deg C.

The winters are brutal and the navy cannot leave port but summer is a different matter.

Greenland has huge amounts of ice (which may well have been snow to start with).

user1495884620 · 10/05/2020 11:51

Now you all have me wondering what the upper limit to "several" is!

user1495884620 · 10/05/2020 11:54

Dictionary says more than two, but fewer than many. What's the betting that the dictionary definition of many is more than several? Grin

OhioOhioOhio · 10/05/2020 11:54

TheShoesa

Thank you!

Thighmageddon · 10/05/2020 11:56

Upper limit to several is, hmmm 8? 9?

HavenDilemma · 10/05/2020 12:02

@User68953378975 That Jeremy Clarkson’s mum created Paddington bear.

She didn't, she just created plush bears to look like Paddington (and then sold them) which was actually created by Michael Bond whom then gave them a licence to continue selling them AS Paddington Bear

DrFoxtrot · 10/05/2020 12:07

@Ninkanink I tie a double bow by knotting one bunny ear and tail with the other, not just knotting the bunny ears alone IYSWIM. So I'm not sure if tugging one of the tails would unravel it 🤔 I'll have to try.

Hairydilemma · 10/05/2020 12:07

BatleyTownswomen’s Guild

I used to think Billericay was in Ireland.

When I told DM we we’re moving to Billericay she was initially concerned about exactly that (not that there’s anything wrong with Ireland, just that we’d be further away!)

I also used to think Dunkirk was in Scotland.

lowlandLucky · 10/05/2020 12:08

MrsExpo you can freeze cheese and butter too

KeithLeMonde · 10/05/2020 12:08

@ErrolTheDragon I agree that Baa Baa is a different (although similar) tune, unless it's one of those things with variations where some people know another version.

CherryValanc · 10/05/2020 12:10

Can't believe we have got to page 12 and no one has mentioned Center Parcs yet have they?
I dont like to mention it, it is such a great disappointment in my life. Ruined my life as a teenager.

I mean it not being an exciting tropical land under a dome where everythingis free, not anal sex. You can have that anywhere. (Except in polite company - apparently.)

KeithLeMonde · 10/05/2020 12:11

Well, that will teach me to refresh the thread before posting though it does prove my point. The version I've heard all my life (including on annoying nursery rhyme tapes with the kids) ends before the "thank you" bit that Kitten posted above. With that added I can see how it seems like the same song.

Unravellingslowly · 10/05/2020 12:14

I just realised it you cut your thumb you can put a tea bag on it

I’m not getting this?

Plums stones contain hydrogen cyanide as do apple seeds and cherry pits - don;t ever chew the pits/seeds
Not enough to do harm, but it is useful in debunking the antivaxers theories.

Tell that to this guy Grin he only the 3.

prh47bridge · 10/05/2020 12:17

@dottiedodah - John's statement that he was surprised at the idea the title was a hidden reference to LSD and that the song wasn't about that at all came in an interview just 3 days before his death in 1980. I doubt he was worried about the song being banned at that stage.

Indeed, I believe the first time he explained the inspiration for the song was on the Dick Cavett show in 1971, 4 years after it was released. So I don't think he was trying to come up with an innocent explanation to avoid the song being banned. I think he was telling the truth. It may have been influenced by drugs to some extent but it isn't about LSD.
